Shaukat Aziz at Okra & Ciao

This last Saturday it seems that my interaction with the Prime Ministers security protocol continued through out the day the first incident on Shahrah Faisal which resulted in the rant Short-Cut Aziz in Karachi – ARGH !!! posted immediately after the incident. But the second incident was quite the contrary from my irritating experience in the morning.

Late that night while having coffee at Ciao around 12:30am a barrage of flashing police lights disturbed the tranquility of Zamzama where few odd late night Karachittes were enjoying a cup of coffee were seen to be anxiously peering to see what the commotion was all about, when we finally saw the Prime Minister of Pakistan and his wife entering the establishment and immediately escorted to the upstairs seating area at Ciao. For quite sometime we all held our breath awaiting some protocol bouncer to quickly escort us out of the building, but luckily nothing transpired to our relief, we were all naturally staying for the show.

Previously while driving to Ciao about an odd half-hour back we had noticed a significant presence of armed vehicles around Okra, which had us guessing, as to which big gun was gracing the restaurant. With the arrival of Mr. Aziz at Ciao it easily solved the mystery as I am sure he had a late dinner at Okra and then proceeded to have coffee at Ciao.

During his presence customers coming into Ciao were not inconvenienced and luckily all the ruckus remained outside while the couple attempted to have a casual cup of coffee hopefully in oblivion. After all he must miss the good old days when he could walk into a restaurant with even any casual eye glancing at him. But this I might have to agree that with this brief visit, the owners of Okra and Ciao must be on cloud nine, I hope they don’t contemplate of raising their prices even further….

Well, personally I am not a big fan of our PM, but then he is also a ‘human being like all of us, and above-all, a Karachiite, who would surely miss his good ol’days when, as Doc mentioned, he could walk into any restaurant with or without hsi wife, without anyone even giving him a second look.

if nothing else, it does say one thing. How much does his feet stay on the ground.

Security protocol is a necessary evil, however, the fact that other people at the restaurant/coffee shop were not asked to leave is a sure sign of changing trends.. dont u think so?

Our PM used to be a frequent visitor to Pakistan Chowk (earlier covered in blogs) when he used to work at CitiBank AWT Plaza.

no wonder it was him at zamzama….the traffic police at two talwaar were on their heels..that night..and didn’t let me park anywhere around..for i needed space to park my car for five minutes…needed to just visit worldcall’s office…and i ended up parking in the basement…the point to note is the police were so efficient…i wish if they do their duty with same efficiency in normal circumstances
