KMB Bloggers Lead the Way for Main Stream Media – II

First it was a cousin complaining about the growing cheating (copy pasting from internet) that the youth is inclined towards. Two of her tuition students fought & accused each other of copying the essay then this program on TV ONE where an important point was to voice against something that’s wrong (especially media) & it’s the first step towards awareness. It occurred to me that how important it is to discourage the habit of copying & strengthen basics & journalist being the guiders of a society in helping it in its direction definitely need to set their basics right. So KMB is raising its voice, louder but this time with few technical objections. The original post by TM had deviated considerably from main point so this new one had to be made for clarity’s sake. The intention is not to accuse someone but to encourage accept mistake & not to repeat it.

This is just one small video. Check all here. Due to websites technical limitations these streamed videos are poor in quality, although their original resolution is excellent. It’s for those who only want an overview. Following Download is must for good full screen resolution videos. Unzip using WINRAR & view in this order (Get pics, Remove border, Part 123 & 4).

KMB-1
KMB-2
Click on above two links to download full resolution videos.

Any answer, if there is from DT would be interesting but here we intend to highlight technical aspect only i.e. the similarity in two pics and not that one of them is copied (or may be it is, GOD knows). The person who had those pics knows better. As you will see in that Autodesk example that how well a graphic expert can play create even a photo which was not being taken. The decision is yours.

I wouldn’t say “KMB Bloggers Lead the Way for Main Stream Media” just for one incident but KMB bloggers are definitely leading the way in bragging.

Plagiarism in the media is so common. I once used to write for a magazine called net express and I did a piece on Pakistani hackers and how they were waging a cyber war with their Indian counterparts. A good chunk of the article was copied verbatim and published in some weekly supplement of The News. This some where around late 2000 early 2001. I contacted the editor and she said there wasn’t much we could do besides filing a formal complain to editorial board of The News. Alas nothing came out of it.

Ok MB, it is not just the mainstream media; KMB is influencing public behavior the world over. Ever since Sid’s ‘call of nature’ post came out, I can tell you I have seen people totally using the bathroom and never the streets. I mean, I am so impressed at your power.

i received monthly electricity bill attached along with that was KESC’s newsletter “Connection” and it carried a pic of street all lightened up… min i saw that pic i knew i had seen it on internet, i tried to look for any credits for the pic but found none eventually later on from my bookmarks i found out that it was Zag’s pic ( http://zagtalk.surferzag.com/?p=208 )

    http://zagtalk.surferzag.com/?p=254

Plagiarism is menace thats really widespread and irony is that nobody even considers it wrong…

well must say the video pretty much shows how the image was modified this sure is plagiarism.. irony is on the other thread the article author didnt want to accept i mean come on was it not obvious from the image and this video shows it all Plagiarism is Plagiarism if you take something cite it reference it. If it was my work I would feel bad about it if it was stripped like that. Good job on the video explanation

I never knew plagiarism is so common here until i stepped into the university life. Most of my batch mates are copying and pasting stuff from net like hell and the sad part is that people don’t know about the importance of proper referencing. Taking stuff from sumwhere is not bad but presenting it as your own without giving ne credit to the person who actually did it, is shameful.
Moreover, many a times we r doing plagiarism without even knowing that we are doing it again b’coz we don’t know abt referencing.
This is sumthing that students should be told right from their childhood so that they may develop a habit of putting references by the time they grow old. Also, they should be encouraged to do things on their own no matter what.
But unfortunately, this isn’t happening…i’ve suffered a lot b’coz of this growing copy’n’paste culture. Have lost my scholarship about 4 or 5 times just b’coz my competitors pick up all the projects (especially the programming projects) from different websites and submit them as their own. So, they tend to get better grades coz obviously the projects picked up from the web are a lot better than the ones I make spending my days and nights on….i’m an average programmer :(
When i told my instructors to catch those who are submitting plagiarized work..one said “app hamain beywaqoof samjhti hain…hamain sub pata hai..baaz dafa hum ignore kardetay hain” and another one said “if one can play his/her cards so well and get a scholarship then this is professionalism” So, at the end of the day….i’m a loser…just because I work on my own.
My point behind telling this long (might as well boring) story of mine is just to tell u ppl that there aren’t many people who discourage plagiarism probably because a lot of them are doing it themselves :) Eventually this has become a culture.
It’s good to see that KMB community has taken a step forward to curb this menace. I’m sure if not all, u’ll be able to make at least a few people realize the difference b/w what’s right and what’s not.
I also tried to raise my voice against plagiarism few years back. Here’s the link to my article

MB , come on you are the guy who put illegal link for downloading Pakistani music last month. I hate this attitude , all is good for oneself but if some one else do then it is haram.

By the way, who ever made this video has a lot of free time, ask him to invest in some thing better instead of trying to pull one’s leg.

Regarding plagiarism, I do not mind it unless one use common sense in that. At the end, merit makes it own place and if some one does not copy then he’d get reward so if people like me are not hard working then let us be that way. In my BS, I did only one project myself out of 8+. The easier were not worth of my time and harder one were waste of my time.

    @PPH

I know & i have mentioned it myself in part one. Anyways, i had explained (not justified) it there saying its just for review coz i will buy the CD & requested others for same. Still, that was wrong admittedly & this is too, technically. You can see my every post crediting fully the deserved.

The difference in both is admission.

mb, i am sure you are not using a legal version of photoshop or even windows :-). As pph mentioned in other thread that if jamash has pirated softwares installed on his machines then he or someone else has no right to complain about stealing the picture. I am damn sure that both you and jamash are using illegal copies of different softwares on your unbranded PCs.

on a related note,Dr. Maleeha Lodhi[as you know all know] was found copying the content of her thesis from other researchers.

I do give credit one of KMB’s bloggers to make me laugh.

Following is the profile of the said KMB blogger there’s nothing wrong with this but lines that came to my mind right after reading her profile was quite funny(though u guys may disagree with me)

    ORIGINAL INTRO ABT THE
Economist by day and social critic by night, bayl is the imperfect byproduct of chaos and passion. Tries to defy norm but gets sidelined with laundry and homework. For her life is not a series of urgent nows but rather a listless stream of “why should I’s?”

ALTERED VERSION: (NOTE: this is not aimed at author)

Mentalist by day and idiotic by night. AQAL SAY PayDl is the perfect byproduct of CHAOS and CONSTIPATION. Tries to DEIFY PORN but gets sidelined with laundry and homework. For her life is not like a disease of virgin cows but rather a tasteless ice cream of BUY & CRY.

    @ADNAN

    1. This logic that if one steals from others house then every one else acquires the right to steal this stealers house and he should not be complaining is sheer stupidity.
    2. Save your energy for my post related to piracy in Pakistan. Also do read this so you dont repeat things i have replied already in part one & in AA post.

Same reply in-advance to other repeated questions.

No Adnan we dont know — please enlighten us about Dr Maleeha Lodhi’s alleged plagiarism

  16. d0ct0r (unregistered) on February 1st, 2007 @ 7:32 pm

@Adnan before enlightening any one make sure that you’ve got both side of the story, coz incomplete news can lead to law suits… plus even if you got the right story then be cautious otherwise you may never know your scoop ending up being printed in all the next morning dailies without you getting the credit of course ….

    Nocturnal,
I fail to see the relevance of your comment to the post, nor your humour, am not sure if you’re having a bad day, maybe you just need a hug.

Anyway, I don’t discourage your opinion, i just encourage respect for those that take their time to make metblogs what it is.

Doctor:hehe.Actually I had read that news few years back in Jang paper and got recalled after this particular topic. After a bit googling, i found the following. From The Hindu:

    tinyurl.com/3c4q6t

Maleeha Lodhi, the high-flying Pakistani journalist who recently returned from Washington as Islamabad’s Ambassador to the United States, is caught up in an ugly controversy about plagiarism.

A web-based journal in the U.S., the South Asia Tribune (www.satribune.com) , alleges in its latest issue that Ms. Lodhi’s Ph.D. thesis submitted to the London School of Economics in 1981 and an article she published in an American journal were plagiarised.

Ms. Lodhi had apparently lifted considerable portions without attribution from the unpublished dissertation of one Philips Edwards Jones.

Ms. Lodhi has already apologised to Dr. Jones for the transgression. But her detractors in Washington are taking up the issue with the LSE in London

  22. Omar R Quraishi (unregistered) on February 2nd, 2007 @ 12:49 pm

well turns out it was an unsubstantiated allegation in the now defunct SA Tribune which is quite different from you saying authoritatively on this board that she plagiarised — Tch tch — talk about wild exaggerations —

  23. Adnan Siddiqi (unregistered) on February 2nd, 2007 @ 3:03 pm

omar, beyta don’t cry like a chick after seeing the proof. the news was not broken by SAT since it also appeared in jang at that time. My first source of Info of this news was Jang[by Jang group of thugs].

  24. Omar R Quraishi (unregistered) on February 2nd, 2007 @ 9:55 pm

Strange that you should then be quoting a newspaper that you claim is run by ‘thugs’

BTW Adnan does your employer know what you do on its time?

You call someone pointing out your wild exaggeration ‘crying like a chick’ — hahaha

  25. d0ct0r (unregistered) on February 2nd, 2007 @ 9:57 pm
