Fire safety – Are you ready?

Keeping in mind yesterday’s fire accident in PNSC building, I was thinking what would have happened had it been a working day. How many people would have been able to escape, and how would they have escaped. Jumping out of the window is not always a good idea. So what would you have done if you were stuck on the top floor of a building on fire? Heck, I work on the 7th floor of a multistory building and just the thought of getting stuck in fire sends shivers down my spine.

So give it a thought for few seconds and imagine what would you do if you find out about a fire just two floors below you approaching upper floors quickly?

you serious don’t wana try Bungee jump when floors below you are burning… that might turn out to be your last Bungee jump… Parachuting on the other hand is a practical option

Aaaah .. firstly I feel sorry for the elite forces of rats who roam around in our building’s false ceilings … where would they go … we’ll manage ;)

On a serious note, a city that’s almosta country in itself is not able to cater to such seriou disasters then what shold we expect from other cities … with multi stories and high rises in making – first thing the authorities should think of is pressure ladders and other fire fighting stuff to combat such future happenings – that are bound to happen …!

Good Question. OK yes bungee jump is a great idea or why not hang a rope, cool too. what if simply you are encapsuled in around a clothing forming a chute.

    Its called “Fire Chute”

Made of fire resistant material and opens into a chute, capacity approx 25 ppl/min from 200 m hieght. visit http://www.escapeconsult.com
and http://www.escape-chute-systems.com. Also demo on the site to show how it works.
We have installed and tested it in UBL building 7th floor head office isb. Trained all staff to use it. It surely saves life.

Does it allow for ‘champal’ (slippers) and shalwar kameez clad fat – slow dumb witted people too? I do not think I would like to wait for my turn to come around.

I choose free base jump with a chute then….

We should have some kind of sprinkler system linked with smoke detectors which turns on automatically whenever the fire starts.Another option is to convert a chopper into a fire engine with ability to spray jets sideways on high rise buildings under fire.

~15 Million people have 20 Firestations here in Karachi out of which 4 closes their operations at 4PM daily. There are 20 fire tenders in which majority requires repairing and tuning. Around 700 firemen without any training (result recent tragedy during a factory fire incident).

In a country like ours, wishing for Super man or some other super-hero to save us wont be a bad idea :P
