Looking for new authors

It’s that time of the year again. We are accepting applications for authors at Karachi Metroblog.

It doesn’t take much to qualify. You should be
* living in Karachi,
* an experienced blogger,
* knowing what blogging is all about, and
* committed enough to post regularly at KMB.

Please email me with your name, prefered email address, blog URL, and few words on how you can be a good addition to KMB authors. I will consider all applications received by Friday.

    “living in Karachi” ?

    I have a feeling that few of the current authors dont seem to be living in Karachi. Am I correct?

    No that’s not true. All authors live in Karachi. Some of them frequently travel but they do live in Karachi.

    I dont know about who will get selected in the final tally but I would love to see URDU writers making an appearance in KMB – heck that would be a nice change. URDU writers step right up

    Too funny :)

    Isnt it a bit unfair to restrict the blog to Karachites living in Karachi only. It quite evident that this blog attracts a large international audience of expat Karachites who share a strong bond with the city itself. Why should they not be allowed to write on this blog?

    Kumail, a very good question…to which I am not sure there is a good answer…

    Kumail, Karachi metroblog aims at covering local events and life in karachi from the perspective of common residents of the city. That’s the reason it is required for an author to be living in the city.

    You need to write an application in order to write, how ironic!

    Interested authors proof you are author by writing an application ;)

    @Kumail

    I understand your point & appreciate all those Karachiites who live abroad & we the authors really appreciate their participation here but as you know in order to write a blog post at KMB they would be required to have it from a local view which i guess would be missing if one is abroad.

    Please guide me if i am wrong but that’s one reason why its difficult to allow bloggers outside Karachi to post.

    If you are living in Karachi and if you dont know what is happening in Karachi then I would say that a person is more in Khi if he/she although doesnt live in Khi but knows more about whats happening. Likewise if you are away from somewhere you could have a different perspective and vision.

    @MB, you know why bcoz the local authority can easily arrest if he/she writes against the govt. :)

    Ain’t we writing for/against gov when required ?

  14. KhiTorPit (unregistered) on February 27th, 2007 @ 9:28 pm

    @Mb, I dont want to go into details here but if you will search in google you can find cases in other parts of world.

  16. MB (unregistered) on February 27th, 2007 @ 10:15 pm

    I don’t get it yar, details of what ?
    If you are talking generally then i know its happening.
    But i am talking about KMB
    Is KMB not going against gov when needed ?

  17. KhiTorPit (unregistered) on February 27th, 2007 @ 11:05 pm

    I dont know about KMB but in general its happening, being in Khi one should be more careful, kiyon keh wahan par banda gayeb ho jata hai aur pata bhi nahi chalta :(
    Umar might have some know how about it.

    @UMAR ?? ?

  19. Kumail (unregistered) on February 28th, 2007 @ 1:11 am

    Fair enough. But covering the city is not the only thing that KMB does. There are several opinion based, issue based articles, that are discussed and debated on this forum.
    As far as local views are concerned, they vary within Karachi to quite an extent so having one more shade would only brighten up the rainbow.
    A metroblog,in my opinion,should bring people of a city together irrespective of their residence being in clifton or korangi or london or new york. If they find the city to be their identity and their home, there shouldnt be any reason for them not to be able to contribute to the metro blog.

    @MB;

    Thanks for suggesting to apply for authorship!

    i live in UAE so i guess i can’t be an author. but as i informed u I do not think iam authorship material!

    one has to be a regular…well iam a regular for the past week or so, ever since i 1st joined.

    but i find it a bit unfair that karachietes living abroad are not allowed to become an author.

    i almost daily read the main newspapers of pakistan….i do not want to become onebut in principal i find it highly unfair and the reasons given… a bit bit wanting…

    i totaly agree with KUMAIL and KhiTorPit on this one!
