Empress Market-from a mummy/daddy girl’s perspective
Karachi is big and I’m not too sure about beautiful, but it’s definately diverse. Empress Market building may sound cliched but it is not. There is boundless energy, it’s vibrant and and gives you a head rush if you go there with your camera. You have to be really stupid, if you’re a girl, you’re with a super slick machine, and you have used public transport. But you manage safely and that’s what I like best about this city, the positve unpredictability.
Empress Market was the place to be in, long, long time ago. It was a frequented by the elite. From snake charmers to lottery selling men, to pickled lemons and lemon grass- the phrase is ask and you shall receive. Oh yes, you need to haggle alot, like it’s done in the rest of the city. Exotic food ingredients are accesible. If you know what you want and and willing to pay for it, it really is yours.
If you do carry a camera people will naturally assume you are from Geo, and ask polite questions. They let you take pictures and mind their own businesses. From meat and vegetables, to knick-knacks and household items, it offers alot. Empress Market definately is worth going atleast once, just perhaps to get the feel of this city.
It’s the best way to kill a routine.
You should load pictures since you took a slick camera along:)
The camera is manual. I should develop that I have yet to-on my own, provided I get a drakroom, and then scan and upload?
Whoa!
Hey Henna, I’m sorry but could you please clarify what you meant by:
You have to be really stupid, if you’re a girl, you’re with a super slick machine, and you have used public transport.
errrr –she just thinks that she is stupid and i kinda agree …

I enjoyed reading the first half of that post!
bayl: i think she meant its dangerous to go there under those circumstances.. and given personal experience, she’s kind of right.. you either have to be very very brave or very very stupid :D
Something tells me it was an assignment that made u brave the stupidity :P
Empress market is a haven for photographers. I went with a friend and we had an amazing time exploring the place.
I don’t know about others, but until and unless, I read Henna’s post at least three times, I don’t comprehend anything.
yeun hee bay sabab naa phiraa karo

Arsalaan Haleem – you are way ahead of me; I’m still trying to understand what the title of this post means.
I thought all girls (or boys for that matter) are “mummu/daddy’s” children. It seems that might not be the case; they are other means of having children.
Henna P: I would love to get a perspective of a non-mummdy/daddy’s girl on Empress Market – I am sutre it will be more fun to hear from non-natural creature.
im not a grammar nazi but please, some quality of writing should be maintained on this blog.
well – if they started screening authors for quality of writing half the authors would fail to make grade.
Which may not neccessarily be a bad thing now that I am thinking about it . hmmmm

normally – whenever i got stuffy nose – i visit Em. Market – cuz germs and all other strong odors just kill all flu viruses in a sec. NO need for anti-biotics :P
