Geo Building Evacuated

In yet another attack on the media, Geo News in Karachi was threatened with a bomb in their building. The building has been evacuated and the bomb disposal squad is searching the building. Hamid Mir personally requested the ‘Honourable’ President of Pakistan to pray for the staff’s security. In the same conversation Musharraf apologised for the attacks on the Islamabad office and promised to punish the culprits by tonight.

Attack on the media, my A$S! After being the government’s tuttoos for, like, forever, Geo waaley are now trying to portray themselves as flagbearers of the freedom of speech or something.

The Nation published pictures of the CJP being dragged by the hair and pushed into a car — nothing happened to THEM. Cheapa$s publicity stunt @ Geo. Blegh!

the only reason that i could think of this bomb hoax is that maybe some one in govt wanted geo news off air coz of the constant criticism by Hamid Mir of attack on Geo Islamabad .. then while the islamabad geo was in disarray they disrupted the programmes in karachi as well so that Kamran khan also is taken off air.. little did they knew that Geo had a backup setup in Dubai as well and they said that they’ll continue to stay on air no matter what….

Please refrain from using negative language about our country on BBC & other foreign blogs, this is our internal matter and we will deal with it. Show positive language in front of others please.

After this event all the world has seen that Paki’s dont deserve freedom of speech. What a jazbati qaum we are. And yesterday GEO has proved that on air.

jay i am kind of glad that someone stood up in whatever drama baaz way for journalistic freedom …but i agree the average mentality of pakistani’s as exhbited by our free speach is pretty pathetic. I cant believe people are advocating the murder of our own president and army officials on this blog.
I am embarrassed of you people, even dogs have more sense and a lot more loyalty.

By the way when this “political circus” will end on this “Karachi” blog?

I saw a person asking for writers application on this blog, next time add another restriction that only few political posts are allowed per writer so we can look up at other things as well…

Ab aya Ount Pahar k neechay. I might agree with you that this or any forum shouldn;’t be used to promote killing of anyone but it’s also true that same blog was/us/will be used by anti-Mullah cabal to kill all mullahs. Few threads back CONCERNED expressed similar kind of extreemism on this forum but since people attacking your OWN community so you re getting hurt now. calling them dogs etc. Turab in past also demonstrate same mental illness on same forum. You were quite infact Enjoying when same words were being used for your oponents. Enjoy the time darling. This is the right time to deal the people who disagree with you and learn to cope with them. I know in Army environment you wouldn’t have heard something like “NO” but then every place on earth is not ruled by Pakistan Army.

@Sajid: I would agree with you that the metroblog should discuss things happen in the city but the current crisis are exceptional. I think you wouldn’t be aware of this website in 2005 but SAME FORUM played a major role in Oct 05 earthquake in Pakistan when this forum was very helpful to provide updates regarding relief work at Masroor Base Karachi. There were several posts were made by several authors here regarding the earthquake crisis[You may check archieve from Oct 2005-Dec 2005]. In normal situation I would agree with you but not in this exceptional situation. Please do remember that we can’t ignore severe incidents like EarthQuake and CJ removal, after all Karachi is part of Pakistan, anything which Pakistan suffers,Karachi does feel it severely whether it’s a human crisis or political or financial. Karachiites by nature are sensitive on such issues and we should face this reality about people of this city. Karachi has always played a leading role in different crisis and everybody knows it.

  21. Sajid (unregistered) on March 17th, 2007 @ 1:34 pm

Adnan agreed, however that coverage was also related to Karachi ( masroor base is in karachi ). I understand current situation, but i feel we should take some breath, there’s lotsa other issues/things then cheif justice, geo, mushy and whatsoever. Couple of recent post that i have seen are politically motivated and people fighting with each other instead of discussing.

  22. Adnan Siddiqi (unregistered) on March 17th, 2007 @ 2:02 pm

@sajid: I think you are taking this issue very lightly or equating with AQKhan case. Govt also did the same mistake and now theya re regretting, sending requests to CJ for compromise.

Please do keep this in your mind tha Judiciary is one of the main pillar of a state. By playing with judiciary, you are putting the country in danger.

I suggested rationality and patience right in the beginning of this episode. Did anyone listen or pay attention? But I am glad to see some bloggers out here are beginning to see and call a spade by it’s name.

Remember “Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people.”

@ Doctor: Yaar that was one heck of a stupid comment @ me @ “jealous of Geo.” I don’t work there because I don’t want to, not because I can’t. I got a job offer from Geo English sometime in the end of February (last month). I turned it down, because I don’t want to work at the Jang Group.

So your assumption that I said what I said because of “spite” is pretty darn stupid. I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but that’s not the kind of person that I am.

@ ORQ: O bhai hello? Please refrain from personal comments. You’re welcome to your point-of-ciew, as I am to mine. End of story.

  25. d0ct0r (unregistered) on March 17th, 2007 @ 7:32 pm

even state controlled PTV for the first time condemned the attack on Geo… Ajj tv covered the story extensively and all the other channels as well as newspapers condemned the aggression of police against a media house…

  26. d0ct0r (unregistered) on March 17th, 2007 @ 11:31 pm

Najam Sethi talking to Dr Shahid said “sara Pakistan sirf aik he channel dekh raha hai.. i.e. Geo” coz they took a stand

  27. d0ct0r (unregistered) on March 18th, 2007 @ 12:03 am

this is hilarious… Mush is now putting all the blame on govt… he says he have’nt got anything personal against the CJ and he only sent the reference to SJC which govt sent him….

  28. UZi (unregistered) on March 18th, 2007 @ 2:49 am

Sethi saheb is one person who’s comments should definitely not be quoted out of context. : ) If you must quote him, however, quote the entire thingum that he said — I’m sure the picture then will be different from “coz they took a stand.”

Kamran Khan and his team has cooked up the story of Bomb Threat in Karachi, this is cheap way of getting publicity, being the oldest newspaper group, why not a bomb threat against Dawn even though they are very much unbiased about the Govt? This is getting mileage out of present Chief Judge situation. We know how corrupt our society is specially the lawyers community.Citizen talk about the Police/income tax Departmentonly when it comes to corruption. Why not Our Judicial System. These people who are wearing a Black Coat work as Tout for the Judges. There are different rates for different crime and these Black COAT wearing Lawyers negotiate for them.
This Chief Judge had files against his Fellow judges but he was late? or he was using those file against them to pressurise them for different Verdict. If his fellow judges were so bad why he waited for two years to speak up against them?why he did not take legal action? He had time to take suo moto for Basant? Why he did not start the cleaning of his own home first from corruption. Some times when you your self are under the gun then every one look bad.He should have ask his lawyers community to stop these protest and he should have faced all by himself if he was a true believer in the justice system.
