Chicken Cockroach-ie at Nandos

A friend took us to Nandos (Sindhi Muslim) for a birthday treat that he owed us.

It all started with an argument with the receptionist for the desired table. We then ordered LBW (Cricket Deal) and requested the waiter to replace the pepsi/7up in the deal with Portugese Lemonade which after some hesitance he did. We also ordered salad, peri-peri bites and a half chicken meal. The order was served in 10-15 minutes and we the starving souls started eating when all of a sudden our friend grabbed his plate and ran towards the kitchen.

We curiously watched the conversation going on there between him and the manager but could not understand anything. He came back with the manger following him saying, “sorry sir, sorry sir.”

We asked him what was up and he said, “yaar meri chicken per cockroach dor raha tha!”

So that’s what it was. Nando’s messed up yet again.

As a compensation, he got a bigger piece of chicken in replacement. The staff was so ashamed that they did not charge us a single penny. Cockroach-ie chicken at Nandos was fun with no money paid.

i hope it tastes more than good when not a single penny has to be paid. well it’s surely a good trick and i try it too !

Its sad to see a chain like Nandos serve up a cockroach. The good thing is you have this forum here to publish your concerns. This should not have come from a reputable chain like Nandos – send this post to the link found at Nandos Pakistan

The better side of the story is at least they had the heart to not charge the entire party for the meal. But its still just another alternative to Chicken lovers after KFC – I’m well over this place but love the Portuguese Lemonade ONLY

sorry for being of the topic KMB posts and its authors represent particular area and class of citizens. I think all
the authors are in Defence and Clifton area. This is also the case of so called citizen rights groups
like “Shehri”. Thus all the campaigns, concerns are limited to what affect people in these posh areas. Neither KMB nor
NGOs like “Shehri” are concerned about land grab, schools closure/ grabbing by mafia in other part of city..
IMHO this group should be renamed..

KMB does not represent the true picture of Karachi,by reading KMB one thinks that the people of Karachi have nothing to do rather than eating, dancing, going to parties etc etc,KMB only represents the sons and daughters of Burucrates and corrput officials who have made billions of rupees by drinking the blood of milions of poor and helpless people of Karachi and Pakistan, now the children of these bastereds having no tension rather than spending the money of there parents and a big of number of these “Burger” children are among the authors of KMB.

Ahsan and Ahmed, how many KMB authors do you personally know? None, I believe. How long have you been reading this blog? Not too long, I am sure. And what is this true picture of Karachi that you are talking about? I recommend you go through the archives of October 2005. And using that kind of language tells a lot about your family.

@ Ahmed Farooqui: NONE of us are the children of the people that you’ve described. We work hard to earn money, as did our parents. At the end of the day, we deserve to spend our hard-earned cash whichever way we want to without having disgruntled idiots make stupid judgemental remarks about us.

All of us on KMB are self-sufficient ADULTS, rather than the bimbo-ish brats that the people in your head are trying to portray us as.

@ Ahsan Siddiqui: I don’t live in Clifton of “Diphans”. :P Moreover, KMB did quite a few pieces on the kidney hill land-grabbing issue, among others. Doctor saheb just wrote about the Jheel Park. “AankheiN haiN ya tich-button?”

Oh that is SO GROSS!!! YUCK!!!

btw, its funny how the two clowns, i.e., Ahmed Farooqi and Ahsan Siddiqui couldn’t put their own sites and instead put dawn and orkut sites as their URL. Also it’s funny how when the KMB authors were asking for more authors, clowns like these conveniently ignore those posts so that they can later on claim that all the authors are from dHA and clifton areas….

Just for the record, no i do not reside in the so called posh areas…. but i am glad that the authors are taking their time out to keep this site updated…. instead of blaming them why don’t you guys apply for it and start contributing yourselves? or maybe you can start your personal blog and try to keep THAT updated and see how hard it is to take time out for such things….

possibility exist that you both are Burger bachas who read only what they want to read.

we are adult independent citizens of this country and live in City of Karachi, thus contributing / sharing our views about different issues which affect a common person.

we share personal experiences based on common person point of view.

may be many of us never get stopped by traffic police on violation of zebra crossing or jumping a red light but here majority discussed the plight of people who get roughed up by the traffic Tullahs.

also, check out the land grabbing issue, Kidney hill, then the education standards, etc etc etc.

so wake up, Grow UP, You OWE PAKISTAN your BEING., don be EHSAAN FARAMOSH.

@ Ahsan & Ahmed – You both have a right to your opinions.

I am not sure if all the authors reside in Clifton and Defence. Some may be commuting to this area. I would agree with you that sometimes the topics chosen are pretty weird for lack of ideas!

However the topics for this forum are open to anyone thru the ‘suggestion area’, why don’t you go ahead and suggest some from your part of the city?

If you leave everything up to others then you cannot hope and expect a change. The whole point of these blogs is to create awareness. So if they, the authors are not aware of something, please wake them up. I am sure they will be happy to accommodate you all.

Why don’t you participate instead of sitting back and cursing.

It is very true that we have plenty of people who have grown bigger and richer thru corrupt and wrongful ways. Not sure if the authors are a part of this group, but even if they were, since they are a part of our community they too have a right to voice their views!

As for the drinking the blood of the poor people of Karachi and Pakistan, why don’t you start a revolution against them. Do something….suggest ways to defeat, annihilate, exterminate, destroy them. You may find a lot of support here.

Hey, even ‘bastards’ are human beings and have rights too. They are eating burgers (with or without cockroaches), drinking and making merry but at least they are not killing anyone or destroying anything. Better them than the bearded brigades!

To KMB authors: I am sure you know that a vast majority of the readers sincerely appreciate your writing. Ignore Ahmed and Ahsan, spending time responding to their rants only encourages them.

The comments Mr Ahsan Siddiqui posted here are in fact a word to word copy of comments which I posted in this post
“Top things to celebrate on a Birthday/Accomplishment in Karachi” of Neoka. The intention was improvement and not destructive arguments. I appreciate the efforts of authors for the site and just wanted to suggest broader coverage. The author Neoka and other members clarified there position and presented nice suggestions. It helped me understand the situation.

Dear Ahsan and Ahmad, this issue isn’t new and I remember that I raised similar question an year back on same forum. It’s true that this blog mainly speak about foods, concerts etc in areas like clifton, defence etc but then it also reflects the limitations of author. They are not journalists that they travel from once place to other to capture the stories neither they are paid for it. They just report their social activities on this blog. If you want to address things which re not being talked here then do apply for the membership and start discussing the issues which are not covered due to limitations of current authors.

we deserve to spend our hard-earned cash whichever way we want to without having disgruntled idiots make stupid judgemental remarks about us

@UZI: Actually you are being an idiot. Where did those chaps say that you should NOT spend money according to your choice?

If you can’t tolerate criticism by your readers and can’t make difference between an ‘author’ and a ‘commentrator’ then you just leave this blog.

I hate this Karachi Mob thinking. They simply can not accept the differences. The arguments like following make me sick.

“And using that kind of language tells a lot about your family.” How dare one is to drag one’s family is beyond my imagination.

“AankheiN haiN ya tich-button?” … Wow that is some bold stupid statement

“how the two clowns” Once again , if one doesn’t agree with me, he is clown ofcourse.

Why did the chicken crossed the road ?
The eat the cockroaches you found in your meal. :P

Poor chicken was apprehended and slaughtered before it could eat all the roaches, so the extra in your platter was chicken’s leftover dinner :)

Ahmed Farooqi, I, being one of the oldest, continous reader of this blog (from Feb 05), I too, resent your blatant generalisation of KMB’s authors.

I personally know and had the pleasure of meeting many of them, and can assure you, that none of them are, of what you have described them to be…..cheers.

a few years back a similar thing happened to me at Nandos shaun circle branch.

i was there with family waiting for the meal to be served when sudenly a few Makhees began to fall. at first i thought it was a one off then some more fell down.

i told the manager about it and he said that they had sprayed the area a little earlier and there was ‘ nothing to worry about”:) luckily non fell inside the plate:)

I have always regarded KMB as an excellent blog site about happenings in Karachi, a great resource of information & entertainment
for the ppl dwelling thousands of miles away from their beloved city.

I wont agree that the authors of KMB ALWAYS
    highlight ‘defence clifton stuff’

Having said that, I wont hesitate at all to say that this post is ANOTHER USELESS addition from the same author.

What was the point reporting this whole story? They went to nandos, they were presented a cockroach with chicken (or a chicken with cockroach), they were appologised & compensated with another burger, were not charged for the meals. Thats it? So ? was that Enuff to report on WWW ?

Let me tell you a story, my friends went to bundo khan, they had a very excellent barbe cue, they enjoyed a lot, 4 hrs later all 4 of them had bouts of vomiting & diarrhoea. One of them is an author of KMB, but the ‘clever’ idea reporting the event never clicked his mind.
But after reading your story, I think he should have reported that. What do you think?

  27. Tamed~. (unregistered) on April 4th, 2007 @ 12:08 am

Now every one who live in Karachi is an ELITE class’

    Are you sure?

I thought 40% of pakistani poulation unfortunately lives below poverty line.

Sounds like another supporter of Shortcut Aziz.

  28. F. AHMED (unregistered) on April 4th, 2007 @ 12:32 am

well…..the topics may be lousy but we are all here by our own choice, i guess. no one is forcing us and it isn’t hurting anyone:))

i just think that the sheer number of topics posted are toooo much for any sane person to participate in!

there seems to be a competition between the different writers, of posting as many topics as possible and naturally it has an effect on the quality of the topics!

  29. Sufi (unregistered) on April 4th, 2007 @ 12:35 am

A lot of commentators in here speak like they own the place. If you don’t like something, ignore it.

Ahsan & Ahmed, a ghada-gaarhi wala wouldn’t be riding his cart if he could read or post on kmb. People like you will always be complaining and hence should be ignored :P

O’ My GOD!! that is really gross, but it was coming,God knows how many things have crawled or landed in the food served at fast food joints. Living in the U.S. we here of rat feces in our burgers and drinks. If this can happen in the U.S. then Karachi is another story, lol! Well the food is still delicious!!!! Personally I would of been sick to the stomach to have another attempt at the chicken, even though it was bigger and supposably “Cockroach free”!

P.S. funny incident keep them coming!!

  31. Sufi (unregistered) on April 4th, 2007 @ 2:36 am

If this can happen in the U.S. then Karachi is another story

Maliha, well its wrong to say that. US has a edge over Pakistan in most of the things, but I believe food in Pakistan is better, cleaner, less chemical-ized.

  32. ash (unregistered) on April 4th, 2007 @ 4:17 am

ahmed and ahsan maybe you werent crazy about this topic but kmb has posted a lot of varied discussions, maybe you should go back and read them before you start knee jerk complaint making. Also, if living in clifton and defence makes a person unfit as an author then maybe you just dont have the mental flexibility to read any blog about karachi, much less one like this where people from all over feel free to participate.

I stand by Unaiza on her post. She definitely has done what a blog exactly means by posting a story she experienced. And she did it well.

As for paying nothing & came back happy thinking they achieved a big thing. I guess what they basically did is accepted bribe from NANDO’s for an almost criminal act. They should have left the place. Now basically they have accepted a compensation from NANDO’s & not a commitment of this story not being repeated with any other guest.

    Dont you think Unaiza ?

And who was that ignorant who came up with “KARACHI IS FOR ELITEs” statement ?
Again, Just a reminder : 40% lives below poverty. Learn it , will be asked in papers.

“but I believe food in Pakistan is better, cleaner, less chemical-ized ”
ahahaa……. come you say that you are kidding.. right ? I know you are.

The less chemical part is right but the words better & cleaner …… cannot stop laughing…

MB and Tamed Please go and check the meaning of ELITE in a dictionary. Elite can be any one it does not translate for the RICH only? You can be elite in a group of beggers> As far as clean food is concern in Karachi or America > atleat in American Society they have proper Hygene training for food preparer and server. In Pakistan we lack that basic training. We as Pakistani have to go ALONG way before we can compare with AMERICA.In A society where its hard to find Genuine Medicine, YOU GUYS THINK FOOD IS FREE FROM CONTAMINATION or CLEAN.
