Metropole
How long do we have to look at the eyesore that is the ruins of hotel metropole right at the verge of the busiest road of the city?
Personally, I think the site is ideal for a high rise. Imagine the sight of a skyscrapper far ahead of you while you are driving towards downtown.
I don’t know about the details of this one but my guess is that such historic places always have a few stickers that wont go easily to give way to new projects being planned from scratch.
The Hadi market in Nazimabad #4 is a circular structure housing a couple of dozen homes upstairs and really old shops on the ground floor. The place has been reportedly acquired by Hashoo group / McDonalds for a grand commercial outlet two years ago. However, a few (3 or 4) people are not ready to vacate the place despite being offered very high price for the same by the group on the grounds of sentimental affiliations with the place.
I think the Metropole rebuilt might be facing similar problems.

If i remember correctly, you also have a dental clinic in the same vicinity … next to Family Super Mart & Dim Sun Snacks.
Anyhow … as for the topic … Skyscrapper at Metropole … you cant imagine it with Police-snippers on the roof-top.
Wasay if they plan a heli-pad there it can help ease problems for Karachittes as all VIPs can get down there and move aroudn to the high-secure area stretched from Governer house to CM House and towards the clifton bridge.
BTW, on a similar note, a small panwala shop on Tariq Road appears tugged right in the heart of a new bank near Cafe De Khan on the main road. The panwala probably had a good documentary proof of ownership and did not want to move and finally, the bank had to renovate the small panshop to make it part of the overall appearance of the new branch. Not sure though of the details.

Metropole – the minwalla family finally reached an agreement within the family and with the city govt.
It will be 2 towers commercial complex and a 4 star hotel imagine the place :) without parking lot. Apparently the new site plans does not have any mention of parking space / or parking levels.
planned finish of both towers is 2015

Parking is the eternal curse of our building planning commision :(.
highrises were banned around Quaid-e-Azam’s mazar coz of security risks to VVIPs visiting the mazar.. now if the same logic is applied here then a highrise at this place certainly won’t be allowed..
sniper can easily target any one in this highsecurity zone which includes CM house American Embassy, Japanese Embassy etc
btw besides Elevated Expressway Nazim plans to torn apart the existing SF as well
this guy didn’t even spared a road in pakistan chowk which was intact ever since prepartition days.. made of concerete , that road survived rains,over flowing water , heavy traffic etc and served karachiite BUT this Nazim just seems hellbent to tearing every road apart..Altaf & Co find these type of contracts very lucrative ..

well they’ll be relocating the utilities to left side as well so both the side will be dug up and affected… its not a simple case of road widening.. they’ll tear the whole thing apart..(coz they find it lucrative) … Baber Khan Ghouri is already floating the Idea of new port at Somiani while independent analysts say that even port Qasim is under utilized there is no need for a new one at somiani… Altaf bai have asked his goons to think of mega projects(usefull or not) where quick bucks can be made without much effort

I am sure everyone wants to make a quick buck, but can you atleast have some faith in ppl and think tht they are actually doing this for you.

Umar not for very long will people have to look at the eyesore that is the ruins of hotel metropole. The work on Elevated Expressway project has already started, it will cover Sharreh-e-Faisal. It is supposed to start somewhere near the sea and will end after Malir into Qaidabad. Its good to be patient. Wait till the new Gawadar City and the roads connecting to it are completed, you will get the answers. I am waiting to see the new Diamond Bar City Island. I wonder if the whole Island will be like a Bar along with Hotels, ect. One thing is for sure the beaches will be clean.
