MQM : “Blackout was a response by awaam”

Related: JANG, THE NEWS, DAWN. Fingers first pointed at PEMRA (my cable op. still saying its PEMRA) but MQM has broken the silence officially :
That the blackout was a response by people. It accused media of dishonest journalism. It said media should be careful about awaam’s feelings. MQM’s Hyder Abbas denies any involvement.

Is it not up to the channel to decide what & when to air a story? Or shall we now have political gangs to monitor them as watchdogs? The involvement in CJP issue is known to all then how come channels shun their eyes. And is it not the awaami feelings these channels were airing? In this backdrop I fail to understand what really MQM’s statement mean. How it can be the LAW unto itself or take law into its own hands just because the media didn’t cover its rally, near Karachi press club?

Altaf Hussain once said people have misunderstandings about MQM & is wrongly related to terror but hopefully they will try to build a new image. But how can such an image is possible with these statements that are speak clearly about the reasons the three channels went off air.

So the blackout was because MQM was not given sufficient coverage on one of these TV channels. Guess what, it reminds me of one of my JAHIL relatives who got offended at my brother’s valima because they were not requested to come on stage for the video shoot. Just 2 words for such morons- GROW UP.

ive just got to laugh …only in pakistan…hell…they shut the tv channels? so much for “democracy” huh? is martial law looking better to anyone now? :)
kudos to the MQM for inadvertently exposing the whole idea behind “tryranny of the majority” ..maybe pakistani’s will wake up to the idea that regimes are not the issue, the issue is that we dont have the societal infrastructure to support big idea’s like freedom of the press. Thats the big picture. Schools, law and order, societal change. No shortcuts.

@ SALMAN You are like your JAHIL RELATIVE? Its not about Your Jahil Relative but are we BEHAVING like a nation? whats the Issue at hand is Chief Judge did something Wrong A REFERENCE WAS FILLED AGAINST HIM (ACCORDING TO CONSTITUTION)let it take its course and then protest if you do not like the Judgement? This chief Judge should get the Exemplary Punishment so his other fellow judges can work and provide Justice.
DO not we know How Corrupt is our judiciary and our lawyers? These lawyers should not be called lawyers they ARE FRONT MAN of these judges? They bargain with there clients and will tell YOU HOW MUCH WILL GO TO THE JUDGES? This guy MUNIR MALIK got Elected President of the Supreme court bar by the help of this SAME CHIEF JUDGE(PLEASE CHECK THE RECORD).Where is Professional Journalism? How much they are talking or writting about the DAY TO DAY problems of People?

  4. Adnan (unregistered) on May 6th, 2007 @ 12:14 pm

Yeah i totally agree with you. We have a very corrupt judicial system and all those who are protesting want to keep the judicial system this way. If chief justice has done something wrong then he must be punished. He doesn’t own Pakistan that he can do anything he wants. Whether he be a Chief Justice or a Jamadar… everyone must be punished for what ever they have done wrong.

I even dont kno the issue y these stupid black coat people are protesting for. Why they doesn’t want chief justice to be trialled?? just recently even in USA judges were trialled.. you can search for it google. It happens everywhere.. then y not in Pakistan…

Good going MQM for a moment i was watching my TV in peace,no shouting no nothing..

after embarrassing incident in which MQM’s Nazim was seen beating women colleague in city council , this is yet another attempt by this terrorist party to tell the innocent public that either you’re with us or otherwise face the consequences …. threat and violence has been trademark of MQM and it just shows how much of intolerant this terrorist party really is

what was MQM really thinking that its joker leader will get more coverage of state sponsored rally in which all govt workers from ptcl habib bank water board city govt and other govt institutions were forced to attend.. and their grievance was that they wanted more coverage then was given to CJ’s rally.. ARE they to decide if they get more coverage or less coverage? all the media bodies are saying that MQM’s rally was given proper coverage

  10. d0ct0r (unregistered) on May 6th, 2007 @ 2:17 pm

when ever there is a MQM’s rally these terrorists from MQM normally get cable tv trasmission turn off in every area and by using such tactic they expect public to come out and attend their rally.. some times if a specific channel is broadcasting MQM’s leader Altaf’s speech in his trademark demonic voice then they force cable operators to turn off all the other channels expect for that specific channel which is covering Altaf ..

govt tried its best to divert media’s attention from CJ’s rally by holding simultaneous rallies around pakistan… CM Punjab Pervaiz ellahi in lahore held a rally and as Dawn summed it up
“A few thousand people — a majority of them teachers and other low-ranking employees of the Lahore City District Government and the Punjab Horticulture Authority — took part in a rally organised by the ruling PML”

while CM sindh Arbab Raheem held a rally in Thar..(definitely he managed to get more people in his rally then was held by MQM other day but does that really mean he is more popular?)

lastly MQM also held a press conference cum rally outside press club and got pissed when according to them they didn’t got proper coverage and went on rampage and froced the cable operators to close down news channels in areas under their influence by their notorious sector/unit incharges

finally there was a rally by CJ which obviously overshadowed rest of the pro govt rallies

If you ask me questions like this, I will answer you in the same manner.” The reporter said, “After your treatment you will contest the elections with extra energy and enthusiasm.” Zafar answered, “God willing, you will also have cardiac pain and then you will come to know the enthusiasm and energy I feel.”

well, to be fair to the minister
“Zafar, in hospital after heart trouble, got irritated when a Geo reporter asked him why he had chosen May 5 for his angioplasty when his party was rallying in Lahore”

i think that was a unfair/inhumane question to ask someone who has had critical angina. Ask a stupid qu. get a stupid answer :)

@ash are you talking about that doctor who had 21 cases of heinous and brutal crimes including murder withdrawn and was made governor of sindh(MQM’s Governor Dr Ishrat Ibad)? or the other one who made a fool of himself internationally by buying a fake doctorate degree(MQM’s junior relegious minister learned Dr Amir Liaqut) ?

  27. ash (unregistered) on May 6th, 2007 @ 10:20 pm

I think that all doctors in violation of humanity should be excommunicated after a fair trial, regardless of political affiliation. Actually people who adopt politics as their profession should automatically stop being called doctor. The word doctor is not a casual word like lalloo or tattoo and it should only be used in a respectful context , a context where the dr is also being respectful.
I actually have no issues with you speaking your mind even emotionally or argumentatively but i do humbly suggest that if you are a real doctor then you shouldnt bring your profession into disrepute by using your professional name onto a site where you will voice street talk that many will find disrespectful.
Surely you can find another label?

  28. ash (unregistered) on May 6th, 2007 @ 10:23 pm

    maybe spin doctor ;)

The journalist deserved such answer. if I was at Zafar’s place and someone would have asked such question then I wold have slapped him hard. Maybe more. It was such a sick way of asking someone like that. just because the minister badmouthed in past, it doesn’t mean everyone should started taking him for granted. This time I am with Wasi Zafar. Damn on such geo correspondent who asked such a pathetic question and bravo to Zafar who replied him properly.

@doctor: don’t worry, I know you never use foul language here and those who are using your names and now lecturing you about profession are idiots themselves. Don’t take them seriously.

people who are not idiots understand that foul language is not the only way to be disrespectful. I would expect idiots like the one above not to understand that very strange concept but a “doctor’ would.

It’s official that MQM has become Musharraf’s mouth piece and playing the role of devil’s advocate. This ad published in jang today:

  40. Obi Wan Kenobi (unregistered) on May 7th, 2007 @ 11:02 am

MQM has raised some valid points by the way. I can’t under stand what Chief Justice is trying to achieve but when you have hundreds of people around you calling Sir then no wonder, you would act like this.

On the side note, what is a catch for Paktel even if it only for paktel to paktel. 3 paisas per minute is nothing. In a rupee you could talk 20 minutes. Even if you consider taxes(how much they could be), it would give you at least 10 minutes for a single rupee.

  41. Obi Wan Kenobi (unregistered) on May 7th, 2007 @ 11:03 am

Sorry I misread, it is 3 paisas per second. It was too good to be true in the first place.

  42. Red_Munk!! (unregistered) on May 7th, 2007 @ 11:30 am

    3×60=180p/min= rs 1.80/min.

Thats still cheaper than all the rest isnt it?

Hmm…now if only Paktel actually worked/ppl used it.

& OWK, the cj’s playing it smart. Gaining public support nation-wide while at the same time saying the right stuff, such as telling the laywers not to politicise the issue & maintain law & order.

To anyone who ever expects ppl from mqm/mma to come up with a rational argument:

Its ok, “Hope springs eternal” :).

  43. Adnan Siddiqi (unregistered) on May 7th, 2007 @ 12:51 pm

The point is not what MQM is asking here. Their points are valid. The question is, “WHO” is talking about these concerns. It came in paper that in recent rally of MQM near Press club, MQM forced different Unions etc to join the rally. The roads are blocked during MQM rallies. When they themselves are not saint then why are they condemning Chief here? They themselvesa re in glasshouses while they are throwing stones on others.

CJ is coming Karachi on 12th May and I am expecting some sort of disturbance as MQM will try its best to mess with CJ rally. May God save us!-ameen
