Massive Traffic Jam on I I Chundrigarh Road
Our fellow metro blogger Munib reports that he is stuck in a massive traffic jam on I I Chundrigah Road for the past one hour, he claims to have barely moved 10 meters in the past hour and the heat is horrible.
Advise to any wayfarer heading out to that area, try to avoid if possible. Munib reports that a lot of people are turning around now trying to go back.
Updates also going live on Karachi Twitter SMS list (sign-up if you would like to be fed live reports from Munib)
Update 1 (1:20pm): Hey Doc send me the KMB helicopter to get my @#$ out of here
Update 2 (1:35pm): Oh I need to get out of this mess been here for one hour sweating like hell
Update 3 (2:06pm): In all this mess I’m leaning out and having a chat with a rickshaw driver, it apparently has a women and a cute 8 year old kid who is sleeping tightly unaware of the mess
Update 4 (2:23pm): Ahh Finally closing in on the bottle neck. Now I know what was going on. Some patriot rickshaw walashave taken things in their hands. Hey where is the traffic police, WTF ooops I forgot, there is no VIP here LOLz
Update 5 (2:30pm): Told you na.. The local people are directing traffic and NO COPS. The only one I saw was a bit far away doing some other duty. I will hopefully comment after getting home in detail – Peace Out

Appended to this post after Adnan Siddiqi’s suggestion
Is kay saath, Cameraman Pappu Mian kay saath KMB ka reporter MB ko Ijzat Dejiye.
Ji Nadia!
Why does it reminds me of Radio Commentary ;-)
Hoping MB gets out of it soon :>
It took me one and half hour to get to work. Shaheen Complex roundabout in shambles! Will make a post with pictures tonight when I can transfer the photos.
Asma, because it’s a running commentary :>
Is k saath Cameraman Pappu Mian k saath KMB k reporter MB ko Ijzat Dejiye. Ji Nadia!
ROTFL – hilarious Adnan – I think your closing remark is without doubt the perfect ending to this live coverage of the Traffic Jam at I I Chundrigarh Road today – I have appended the post to show the closing remarks
Munib turned Nadia … I wonder if he’s Rolling on Floor Laughing :-p
HAHAHA!.
“ji ji Nadia, mujhe aapki awaz aa rahi hai”.
Poor MB. Must’ve been a b**ch.
….if some kid starts wailing…:| *brr*.
Atleast the weather was a lil better today. (compared to the near 40’s of last week).
Horah! for the volunteers! :).
Oh btw, what caused the holdup??
Err…nevermind my spamming. :#.
Forgot that IIC road is totally devestated for a good # of weeks now.
One would think, considering the importance of that area, the gov & authorities would take restoration work more seriously.
Maybe we ask for too much?!
well they’ve dug up next portion of Chundigar road.. from Habib Bank Plaza all the way to Uni Plaza.. so traffic comming down from Plaza bridge have to take narrow and congested road behind the habib bank plaza towards Techno Tower …
Hey MB, why dont you change your field ?? seems that you like to work as a news reporter.
But now as a matter of fact … you cannot cover everything live :p
UZI, do you have any job vacant in your newspaper ?
Aray haan, what happened to the meeting yesterday at SecondFloor ??? Anyupdates ??
almost 80 % of that side road behind Habib Bank Plaza is occupied by Parkingwalas and on the remaining 20 % all the traffic(both ways) of Chundigar road is expected to run smoothly.. least these incompetent trafficwalas could do is ask the parking walas to take cars to those railway gowdowns beneath the bridge and park them there…
thats the beauty of citizen journalism.. even newspapers don’t have so many mobile reporters at their disposal…
I’ve avoided IIC since they dug it up, but clearly remember that it took them forever to ‘repair’ Mai Kolachi as well.
The parking issue has been pointed out before as well & apart from being inconvienient to the workers, its unsafe for ppl to park their cars @ the railway station/godowns.
Its norm to see side mirrors, caps & cd changers to go missing & since its ‘at owners risk’, all you get is a shrug from the chokidars.
I just have a couppala q’s.
a) How hard is it lay new carpets?. Wouldnt it be possible to finish it in a day or 2? And they can always cordone the road off for those days & save everyone the misery for the enitire month, or however long its been going on.
b) whats the point of continual digging if the previous spots have not been filled/fixed???.
Someone make Khuddai an effing archiologist already.
He might end up finding pirate gold or wings of a buried angel even!.
First of all thanks to everyone for showing love (lolz). Enjoyed everyone’s comment.
Here is the complete story guys, along with a pic for description.

Great Faraz,
But the pictures at night are not showing the real face as probably people already avoided that route after coming to know about it during day.
Also in the first pic do you see people passing through a small passage ?
Thats the one i have showed as yellow line in my blog photo ( in the google maps photo).
i think its a good idea to have a KMB mobile number(registered on a dummy CNIC) which teeth earlier posted,so that we all readers can sms update
if we’re in similar situation or any other news/event worth mentioning on KMB while we’re on the road..
also subscribed to Karachi Twitter, its a nice option if kept updated
come on people. ur all so daft.
its the wall street of pakistan. there is a wall on the street. u can go nowhere….
a question: i did subscribe to twitter, but how to enable the phone (sms) service. I cant seem to send their confirmation code to their +44 number (i have ufone, and have lots of credit)
any ideas??
btw, are their msgs free?
