Drivers Education Drive # 06: Headlights

As Mantissa pointed out in the comments section here, WHAT is it that makes our drivers keep their headlights on high beam — continuously, consistently, forever, no matter what!

Do they not realise that they’re blinding drivers and pedestrians who’re coming the opposite way? Do they not realise that they’re boring holes through the corneas of people who’re sitting in the car ahead of them (facing the back)? Do they not understand how annoying it is to have those THINGS continuously reflect off your rearview and sideview mirrors?

And if this wasn’t enough, they’ve come up with NEON headlights! God help you (and your eyes) if you come face to face with one of THOSE unspeakable evils! What kind of sadistic people take pleasure in torturing fellow human beings this way?! :-/

According to this website:

You can use high beam lights on any road, even if there are street lights. However, you must dip your headlights to low beam when a vehicle coming toward you is within 200 metres and when driving 200 metres or less behind another vehicle.

Once upon a time, there was an uncle who was riding our bumper, with the headlights on his Honda City on absolute high beam. When we stopped at a traffic light, I went up to his car and knocked on the window on the driver’s side.
*Uncle rolls window down*
Me: ummm … could you turn down your headlights, please?
Uncle: *blink* *blink*
Me: Your headlights. They’re on high beam, and they’re hurting my eyes (silently adds: and those of other people whose bumpers you chose to ride). Could you please put them on low beam?
*Uncle gives me the “aaah!” waali look. Comprehension dawns.*
Uncle: But baeta, how will one see then? It’s too dark!
Me: O_o *blink* *blink*

By this time the signal was about to turn green, so I sighed, bid adieu to uncle-ji, and beat a hasty retreat to my vehicle.

To everyone who’s listening: For the love of whatever-you-hold-dear, PLEASE turn down the headlights of your car! You WILL be able to see just as well, trust me!

Certainly an important topic…not sure if anything can be done because everyone ..trucks, buses, motercycle, the kani taxi and suzuki with one light really bright and the other non-existent or dim, and even the so called elite driving driving expensive cars do this. Its more shameful for these people, because when they drive abroad they follow the rule ( as u mentioned).

Secondly, here is an idea, carry a big handy mirror in your car and whenever you encounter ‘uncle’, just show them the mirror (try to foucs the reflection on their eyes..usually works)

Lastly, you should be thankful, you got lucky that you encountered ‘uncle’. This could have resulted in serius verbal abuse even some thukai or your car being damaged. Recently I tried telling someone to stop honking because there is a massive traffic jam..result I had to apologize for saying something so stupid and disrespectful ..go figure

What irks me are not those people that insist on using head lights while driving or not driving within lanes or following rules et. etc. but honestly speaking you people.

Are you really so naive or are you trying hard to create a topic where none exists?

Really tell me what is so surprising about all those anomalies and much more that are exhibited by Pakistanis each day of every year?

And do you really think that ranting on these forums will improve things by even an iota?

We are what we are. Totally uneducated (including those who are literate), ruthless, inconsiderate and without morals – the whole lot.

The above certainly does not come as a surprise to me at all. I do not expect any less from this nation.

First it was not driving in lanes and then for high beam, Now the next post would be for “overtaking”.

@Bolshevik, you could have written your comments on Zainub’s post also, “tumhari naak cut jati kiya” ?

Try this… next time, check the make of the car with the most annoying lights – most of them are Suzukis. I don’t know what masala they put in these lights at the factory.
