Five-star chowrangi (North Nazimabad) and Haidery, etc are flooded. So are other places along the way. Shahrah-e-Faisal (after the Shahrah-e-Quaideen waala point) is useable. Mai Kolachi road is messed up — bumper-to-bumper traffic right before the first waala cut (the first cut on the left when you come down from Queen’s Road, that is) — the other side of Mai Kolachi road, as well as the area after the cut is pretty okay.

Karachi looks wonderful when it is raining, hopefully no one dies this time. In London now it is sunny and wonderful so the rain in karachi looks nice, does anyone have some pics of clifton and defence?

    No electricity for HOUUUURRSSSSS

KARACHI: Citizens experienced another day without electricity and many have complained that KESC complaint centres were being completely unresponsive. Most of the city areas, especially the thickly populated ones, were without electricity from early morning when the first spell of heavy rains hit the city.

The worst-affected areas, where citizens were without electricity for more than five hours, include Liaquatabad, Shah Faisal Colony, Landhi, Khokarapar, Saudabad, Quaidabad, Korangi, Bilal Colony, Manzoor Colony, Mehmoodabad, Neelum Colony, PECHS, Lines Areas, Pakistan Chowk, Lyari, Kharadar, Nazimabad and others.

The KESC spokesman told Daily Times that load shedding continued on Thursday as the supply was reduced by 300 MW after a major component, Unit 4 of Bin Qasim Station, went out of order at 8.30 a.m. He said that the faulty unit will be restored as soon as possible and that 1.5 hours of load shedding was carried out to maintain the supply-demand gap.

However, residents of different localities, including different blocks of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Golimar, Gulbahar, Pak Colony, Qasba Morr, Banaras Colony and Site areas, complained that most of their areas were without electricity the whole day.

“Living without electricity and potable water for the whole day during the monsoons is normal for people living in areas like ours,” said Munawar Naqvi, a resident of Qasba Colony. He added that they lodged a number of complaints to KESC but they haven’t yet repaired the PMT that was damaged early morning.

People complained that KESC complaint centres were not responding and that phone calls were not even being answered. “KESC’s attitude is asking for people to personally go to their offices and lodge their complaints. That could result in an unpleasant situation for them,” said Mehmood Khan, a resident of Gulistan-e-Johar, Block 13.

Sources in KESC confirmed that the rainwater damaged underground cables in different localities. “The underground faults will be removed after the rain completely stops and the rainwater is removed from the roads,” sources said.

Ghareebabad Underpasss is flooded with water & has been closed for traffic. Tahir Villa (FB Area) Road is badly flooded and I have seen a Hi Lux facing the sky as the road beneath its rear tyres settled around 1 ft down.

Underpasses are overflowed? so what? that’s what they are for. One should wonder if the flyover is flown over.
