Utter Waste of Money

touchme.jpg
Almost a year and a half back in March 2006, I made a post ‘Minto Roundabout‘ on the, then newly constructed intersection of Shaheed-e-Millat and Hillpark, this busy intersection was overhauled by the Touchme company and had placed a large model of a toothpaste in the center promoting the Minto Brand (I had a few observations on it then as well).

Before the count increases (khudanakhwasta) and we forget and take it as a norm, let’s pray for teh departed soul and let’s pray that this “khoon ki holi” played with many innocents stops in our city Karachi. Amen

Ramadan Special

Image001.jpgRamazan Special Offer - Dainay aur Baantnay Walay Ladies aur Gents Suits Dastyaab hain. [Ramazan Special Offer - Ladies and Gents clothings for charitable distribution are available]..

Spotted this hand written banner at a fabric shop in an upscale mall today. This is no news. It has been a long set practice. When it comes to ‘giving away’, we pick the inferior items which can ‘fill’ up the volumes so to speak. Do you think this is just another demonstration of the deep rooted hypocrisy that ails us as a people? Or do you believe that the more unfortunate ones ‘go along well’ with the second-class stuff anyway? Would we not just give what we use for ourself?

KESC and Karachi-ites

DISCLAIMER!!!! At the risk of sounding preachy, I am putting forth my next entry. What I say here is a suggestion, (laced in sarcasm), it does not mean I have the answers, just a thought. Let the onslaught begin!
(For the folks who actually want to kill themselves after reading my posts, please, you are being warned, do not read any further, I am sure your mother loves you, live for her sake)

There is something one can do with regards to KESC. I believe it’s called waking up early and getting to bed at a decent hour. When a city like ours has power shortages (as is evident, and yes power shortages are a global problem, but we have it a little worse because we have people who are not willing to make sacrifices), we have to all buckle under and do something for the greater good.

We each have grown up with power issues. We can deal with them, if they were conducted like they are in the Punjab, that they are known ahead of time. People can plan their day and so not fume and dive into inefficiency.

Multi storey car parking

I remember blogging about a multi-storey car parking that was supposed to be built somewhere in Saddar area.

The city’s first parking plaza is to being constructed by the CDGK in Lines Area, Saddar. It is going to be a seven storey building with a capacity for 710 cars and 300 motorcycles.60% of teh work has been completed and another six months might take till the project finishes.
The construction started in May 2006 and was to be completed within eight to twelve months. It has been 16 months now, but, better late than never.

New Restaurant: Fuchsia

Just a heads up for Karachiites who enjoy eating out on the town. Today on a casual drive I stumbled across a new restaurant that has opened its doors on Zamzama, it is located in the lane behind Roasters / Baan Thai, the exterior sports a very modern outlook and apparently seems to be an upscale joint probably a little on the expensive side of the budget.

I cant say anything either way as I did not have an opportunity to step in and get a better feel of the restaurant hence all my comments may actually be more speculative than actual fact. Has anyone here taken the plunge there as yet to maybe give us a sneak preview?

Customer service in Karachi

This was supposed to be my first blog entry, before I got carried away by my KESC rant.

Most people I meet complain that I am a complainer, a negative, caustic human being who has no need to be this way.

All that changes today. I have found my soul mates. It appears everyone in Karachi has customer service issues and everyone is upset with the Traffic or the lack of civic sense or lack of privacy. The funny thing is living in N. America the leader in customer service, I was made to feel an out cast as only my 40 min. conversations MONTHLY with my cell phone co. for incorrectly billing me, stood out. I was the exception. (The fact that I would correct my plan each month and ask that I be billed accordingly, only to see them bill me incorrectly the next month and then my calling them up, each month, waiting for 40mins each time, before being greeted by a representative on the phone only convinced me that someone in customer service really likes me. That this was all a grand ploy to have me call them up each month just for my thrilling wit and sparkling conversation.
