iPhone sucks. It is too big to carry.

  4. Teeth Maestro (unregistered) on September 4th, 2007 @ 9:01 pm

I am sure that the iPhone has been cracked – but it is only possible when you do a hardware crack. Literally opening the untit up and physcially patching a bypass.

Though it has been rumored that a software crack is available but its NOT been released yet. Even the expected release date is next week – check it out at iPhonesSIMfree.com

I wonder if anyone would be ready to buy a 60K phone which has been cracked open.

Pssh…you live way too far back in history! They’ve been here for about 3-4 weeks now. And no, you can not “unlock” them yet. There’re two softwares that claim 100% unlocking of the unit, but they’re still waiting to be release (hopefully by next week). Although, you would have to pay a “nominal” fee.

Personally, I feel that they’re charging a horrendous fee of Rs. 60k for a unit. Just the unit itself should cost around 30k a pop, considering the exchange rates etc. I’d rather just get a Nokia E90 though. Much cooler, much more practical.

    *released;

    *horrendous fee at Rs. 60k

I’ve used it, its AWESOMe! Very very intuitive and easy to use. It is also very beautiful. I don’t know if it will work in pakiland or not

  8. hira khan (unregistered) on September 4th, 2007 @ 9:49 pm

    okay,,,but why 60??

  9. Raza (unregistered) on September 4th, 2007 @ 10:34 pm

The only obstacle is the price … maybe if it were half of that, I’d consider .. but 60! no way hozay!

So far the only unlocked iPhone that I have heard of is by this kid who traded it for 3 locked iphones and a Nissan 350z.

the iphone has been cracked and yes its a hardware crack as teeth maestro mentioned. Why go for iPhone Nokia has announced their iPhone look alike and it wont be carrier locked. LG + Prada have their own touchscreen phone and I think Samsung has one too a Taiwanese company HTC has a iPhone looklike I think Asia and Europe have more options then go for a pricy iPhone the party has just begun

  12. Ahmed (unregistered) on September 4th, 2007 @ 10:47 pm

4 Israeli hackers have claimed unlocking the iPhone after that kid more here

Also tommorow is a BIG Apple event. Rumors are Apple is announcing a Touch based iPod if that happens it will be pretty cool

  13. Sufi (unregistered) on September 4th, 2007 @ 10:51 pm

    Ahmed,
Microsoft is a software giant and trying to battle Apple to make better software for decades now and still hasn’t been successful. Nokia, LG, HTC aren’t even software companies to begin with. The future of cell phones lies in advanced software rather than hardware engineering. Therefore, Apple is a leader. Though Nokia and LG can try to make a phone which will look like the iPhone, it will take them quiet a while to achieve the software glory that Apple enjoys. That said, iPhone is not a perfect phone.

    At Beliscity:
    Regular Price: Rs. 65,000.00
    Our Price: Rs. 60,000.00

Please, don’t be fooled by this. The regular price is $ 499 and $ 599 for the iPhones and not $ 1,000 by any means.

  15. Ahmed (unregistered) on September 4th, 2007 @ 11:09 pm

    @sufi
agreed that software will eventually take over but you cant ignore the bigger players here. Nokia, LG others they know their stuff very well than Apple what iPhone has done has captured all of that and put that in a single package which is pretty neat but they are no experts when it comes to cellphones. iPhone doesnt have support for 3G right now though the ATT SIMcard is 3G this is where these big players will come in.

Clifton Computers in Sasi Arcade is selling it for Rs. 40,000 for 4GB phone and Rs. 46,000 for 8GB phone, unlocked. Delivery is supposed to start on Sept. 11. It’s on their website too at http://www.cliftoncomputers.com Remains to be seen if they can pull it off… (I’m not associated with them… but why pay Rs. 14-20k more than you have to!)

UPDATE & activation is only via web at Apple SITE :) SO FAR !

    NOKIA 1100i is BEST :D

  20. Echoes (unregistered) on September 5th, 2007 @ 2:37 am

Guys guys, even IF its not unlocked. It hardly matters! (well, for an Apple fanatic like me ;)) You can pop $80 for a TurboSIM or wait for a freeware software unlock (it IS coming).

And no, don’t suggest iPhoneSimFree. I wouldn’t trust them with anything.

  21. Obi Wan Kenobi (unregistered) on September 5th, 2007 @ 3:09 am

iPhone comes with a 2 year contract of AT&T and if you break it then you owe AT&T some amount b/w 175 and 250$ so please add that amount to base payment and then you have sales tax which is like 8.25% in CA so 8GB iPhone is like 599 + 50(Tax) + 200(Fine for breaking contract) = 850$ (51K Pk Rs).

  22. Sufi (unregistered) on September 5th, 2007 @ 4:42 am

    Obi,
I don’t think people are breaking contracts here to bring em to Pakistan. I think they are declaring them lost or else its no profit.

  23. d0ct0r (unregistered) on September 5th, 2007 @ 5:05 am

do they get away with it so easily by declaring it lost?

  24. DB9 (unregistered) on September 5th, 2007 @ 6:35 am

oho you can get “global roming” on your iPhone from AT&T then you can use the same number and use it in US, UK, PK or anywhere.

  25. Purple_Haze (unregistered) on September 5th, 2007 @ 6:41 am

  26. Obi Wan Kenobi (unregistered) on September 5th, 2007 @ 8:28 am

IllusionSF , What do you mean “declaring lost” ? There is nothing such as that. You sign the contract, either you keep the contract or you come out of the contract.

Just because it has been made by Mr.Job’s company doesn’t mean it’s ultra cool. I see there is extra ordinary iphone hype just like it was for iPod in past.

Flash and Java are two technologies which are used more than any technology in the world. What I read in reviews that iPhone doesn’t support both Flash and Java. It could be true because Apple released a Web based API(read Safari based API) for iPhone application development. I grinned when I read long time back on slashdot that Apple tried to convince their users to use their AJAX based SDK which they claim is so cool that developers could _fool_ their clients by saying that it’s a DESKTOP application. AJAX is good but it’s not so powerful that you can talk your hardware by making web based calls. I could sing praise if it was done by apple to comeup with Javascript based Interface to communicate with Iphone’s hardware but apple didn’t give much freedom to developers therefore I don’t think IPhone is a developer friendly gadget.

It doesn’t mean hackers are sitting quit. According to this url, attempts are being made to bring most out of Iphone:

    tinyurl.com/2z8yw9

Pre-installed Google map, some GUI based “sashkay” doesn’t mean it’s good as well. This is the first release so I can just hope that the future versions of iPhone would be mature enough to be compatible with 3rd party native applications as well otherwise people start bashing Apple like they did with Microsoft in past.

  28. Ahmed (unregistered) on September 5th, 2007 @ 1:03 pm

    @adnan
Have you heard abt Googles gPhone there have been strong rumors that gPhone will use a Java based OS with applications written in java + there have been claims that these java based applications are very responsive with faster load times

also a couple of weeks someone ported Doom II on iPhone with some success. The Apple folks are not very keen on releasing any SDKs but hackers they have their own way of getting around stuff :)

  29. Adnan Siddiqi (unregistered) on September 5th, 2007 @ 1:17 pm

Ahmed I heard about gPhones but no idea about technical specs. At one side you say that it would JavaOS while on other hand you say it would be very efficient and responsive. :-)

  30. Ahmed (unregistered) on September 5th, 2007 @ 1:36 pm

now now you have to trust google on this. Google and Java have been in a strategic partnership for more than a year now. Google Web Toolkit was their first attempt at this. Frankly wasnt much impressed with GWT but you never know gPhone might just do the trick

  31. Adnan Siddiqi (unregistered) on September 5th, 2007 @ 1:52 pm

Google and Java have been in a strategic partnership for more than a year now

Well, if they change the architecture of Java and remove things like Garbage collector and Bytecode stuff and comeup with their _ownVersion_ of Java then I can’t say anything.

Actually I was pretty impressed by GWT. Was a good attempt :-)

Speaking of Iphones. If any one here is involved in web development and want to target iPhone as well then download APtana IDE which is free for Windows,Linux and Mac. It’s a very cool Javascript IDE as well as you can code for Adobe’s AIR and make your GUI Iphone specific. I have been using it for a week and so far I am satisfied. It also can import libraries like jQuery, dojo and other JS libs.

iPhone is the biggest scam out there..
its a useless set with little features.
ppl r just amazed at its fancy shmancy finger controlled UI, that happens in ‘HTC Prophet’ and other line of PDA phones as well which are of same ro smaller size, plus whcih run a fully customizable operating system unlike the rigid and limited iphone one…

plus it will be good snatch magnet since its more hip…

Adnan Idiot, who told you that gadget has to be developer friendly ??

Apple reduced the price today and now it is like 300/400 bucks. I have never bought any iPod nor would ever buy iPhone but I love AAPL.

  35. Adnan Siddiqi (unregistered) on September 6th, 2007 @ 12:05 pm

Obi, i can understand why re you burning here.

who told you that gadget has to be developer friendly ??

Nokia is, Microsoft’s PDAs are. what the heck are you talking about? There are several SDKs shipped by NOKia and 3rd party SDKs like j2me and symbian. If you don’t provide SDKs then how could you attract developers who might make good apps for users. BY developers friendly doesn’t mean I should be provided a Visual Studio version or Eclipse which could run INSIDE a gadget.

Actually I surprised after hearing this from you. But then if *you* would start cursing Apple products then how someone else would buy it?:)
