Istaqbaal-e-Ramadan Program by Safiya Khan

An Istaqbaal-e-Ramadan Program for ladies is being conducted as I type at the Defence Hall at D.H.A Creek Club. The event will continue till 6 o clock this evening, so if you’re anywhere in the area, you can still make it. More about the speaker Safiyah Khan, via sister Javeria’s blog a i R e V A j:

key.jpg

Safiya Khan is one of the most talented students of Dr. Farhat Hashmi. Due to her great interest and knowledge in the subject of Psychology, she beautifully and eloquently explains the concepts of the Quran based on human psychology. Being an avid reader of Stephen R. Covey (the author of the international best seller Seven Habits Of Highly Successful People) she explains how the Qur’an gave the best concepts about successful people fourteen hundred years ago which successful literature of today provided after years of research.

I’ve never heard Safiyah Khan before, but her profile makes an interesting read, and I’d love to be at one of these gatherings some time. Commitments elsewhere meant I could not be at the Istaqbaal-e-Ramadan lecture happening today, but given the lecture today is only a precursor to the more extensive Dora-e-Qur’an Program starting 1st Ramadan at the same venue and that will continue until the 29th of Ramadan, looks like they’ll be plenty of more opportunities to try and get to hear her.

Post Script: Also, for those interested, Dr. Huma Najmul Hasan, who has been doing a comprehensive Quran review program at the FTC at Sharah-e-Faisal every Ramadan for the last few years now, is also going to be doing the same this year. More details about that event here and a comprehensive list of all Dura-e-Quran programs being conducted through out Karachi this Ramadan here (pdf link).

    “ELIZAMANTIN” and others, please be aware. I’ve allowed a similar thread in the past to be hijacked by a discussion on the actions of Dr. Hashmi but I wont let the happen again. This post is about Safiya Khan and her lectures. If you have any comments directly relevant to that they will stay, everything else will be deleted. This is my first and final warning. You’re entitled to your opinions about Dr. Farhat, but this post is not about her. This is about Sister Safiyah, and her upcoming program, if you have more information on her or on this program, please come forward, or else, please take your opinions elsewhere on a forum where the discussion is about her, it Is not so here. Also, please be aware that all comments on KMB are subject to these terms of agreement”, according to which, any post containing potentially defamatory or libelous material can and will be removed. Thank you for your co-operation.

    To me being an outstanding student of Farhat is not an extraordinary achievement. However, I am open to whatever Safia has to say. Can any of her lectures or excerpts be posted? I sincerely hope that hers is not another attempt at spreading confusion in an ignorant society.

    Lately this Blog is on haywire.

    any bearing of topic with respect to Karachi ??

  7. Reality_Check (unregistered) on September 9th, 2007 @ 10:34 pm

    @Jamal, this is indeed a topic directly related to Karachi. We need to understand this phenomenon started by Farhat Hashmi and carried on, as mentioned here by Safia. Whatever you say or think but the fact remains that Al Huda folks have challenged conventional maulvi clergy and as a consequence branded as jewish agents by them.

    Here is an interesting read;

    NEWB3E I am personally not a religous person, all my life I have been at odds with religous righteousness. But, that doesn’t mean that I will support any form of censorship and kicking ppl out. A wise man once said;

    Dont worry you got it right. That was not an impulsive decision but a very concious one. After a lot of study and thought. However, that shouldnt have a bearing on what I said and what we were discussing.

    To answere your question, I sometimes touch base with the blog that carries my city’s name, and felt a need to comment on remarks like, bhaga diya, nikaal diyaa, fitna and so on. thats all there is to it.

    I like your honesty. After BALAM, u r a fresh air here.

    While growing up in Karachi, I left Islam about 15 years ago….that was a gradual process that took 3-4 years.

    In the last 15 years, I never felt any need of God or gods. Not believing in any supernatural thing is just divine…its a pradigm shift. I enjoy it very much.

    I advise other Muslims to atleast think about it for 10 secs everyday.

    Thanks

    Dear, Jo Dar Gaya Woh Mar Gaya. Being borned and raised in a conservative family of Karachi (now living abroad), it takes a lot of guts to discover yourself and challenge the belief system that you have inherited, believe me its not a task for weak hearted or the unsure.

    I sometimes fail to understand why people try to hyper-analyze everything. Firstly, the posting was meant for people that are interested , and if you’re not you’re more than welcome to ignore it. It’s really not that hard people! Simply put - look to yourself before commenting on others.

    If Zainab has the right to proselytize for Islam, we have rights to convince Muslims out of Islam.

    If Zainab edits these comments, thats another kind of dictatorship, indicating lack of courage to face the intellectual challenge

  24. GIMP (unregistered) on September 10th, 2007 @ 11:38 am

    Alam, there is a big difference between “intellectual challenge” [edited out: personal attack]. The author clearly mentioned the “terms” which every user has to follow. [edited out: personal attack]

    if you feel [edited out: personal attack] then start your own personal blog and advertise it every where so that others can comment [edited out: personal attack]. Hijacking someone else’s thread is nothing but a coward act. [edited out: reason personal attack]. Best of luck in your journey.

    I expect the autor to remove all irrelevent comments so that we the readers could focus on orignal topic. I think the author has guts to do what she mentioned above

  25. mantissa (unregistered) on September 10th, 2007 @ 11:43 am

    @ALAM:

    Let’s go back to the base level here. The posting had nothing to do with ‘proselytizing Islam’ and if you take another read, it is a notification for an upcoming event here in Karachi (hence making it kosher for this channel) and it was left to the will of those reading it to go to this event or not - hence, no coercion involved.Again as per my earlier comment, if I make a posting for a rock concert, I would hardly expect anyone to start weighing in on the pros and cons of rock & roll. Quite on the contrary, I feel that there seems a lot more agitation on the side of those wanting to discourage people from going to this event. To everyone out there, take stock and figure out whose ‘proselytizing’ to whom.

    The right to free speech is not absolute, as I said, you can say whatever you want within certain bounds, off topic, irrelevant, personally attacking posts as well as posts containing material that can land the owners Metroblogging.com in courts are strictly not allowed. Some KMB authors impose these rules more strictly then other. However its clearly not our problem if certain reader equate these rules to censorship. I’d advise such people to go read the “rules” for commenting to any blog, any forum, any where on the web, and they’ll very like come across similar restrictions.

    Also, I never “advertised” anyone, if you had read the original post carefully enough, I had confessed I did not know the speaker nor had I ever heard her, and that is why I invited others to bring forward their comments on her (not her teachers or those affiliated with her, but her and her alone). But of course, its easier for some people then others to see smoke where there’s no fire.

    Also, the Karachi Metroblog authors team have the free right to discuss any topic relevant to Karachi, we have a diverse team, with people from different backgrounds, and that is why we diverse posts. However, its not possible that our diverse tastes will cater to your own unique taste all the time, if you’re so interested in having your own views on the city heard, please contact Umar and line your self up for future selections, so that you can contribute your self. Authors are chosen on merit, and if you’re good enough, you will be considered.

    Also, I repeat, this blog is not a free canvas for everyone to discuss their socio-political and religious ideologies, comments here MUST be highly relevant to the topic being discussed.

    This diellema is creating people who have power to supress people who dont have this.
    i hope the author get this point.
    As for the blog the people who disagree with the teaching of the modern ladies should post events which are more spritual and closer to essence to teaching of Islam.

    ZAINUB Sorry about the fate of your topic, but that’s the way the world revolves you cannot control it. Perhaps you shouldn’t have mentioned Farhat at all in Safiya’s profile, that seemed like an open invitation for attack to the detractors.

    As for the debate, I believe that religion has enjoyed far too much air time in Pakistan in the past couple of decades and it seems that free thinkers are clawing back. That’s a good sign.

    Alam,

    I posted about an event in Karachi, and asked everyone to share there thoughts on that event and the people involved in it directly. If you can’t get something as simple as that, then clearly that’s your problem. I don’t see how its my job to justify my actions to you. And if you have liking for seeing chicks, go find a different website, KMB isn’t the place you’ll find one. If it hasn’t dawned on your already, the world will not necessarily revolve around what you like and what you do not. Also, if diversity for you means counting “chicks” without “sticks”, then I’m really wondering why I should have bothered trying to explain my self to you in the first place. This is going to be my last contribution to this thread.

    Asalamu Alaykum,

    The Lecture Alhamdullilah went very well. More than 200 ladies attended the lecture. Feedback was excellent and received comments like … This really touched my heart ..This Istaqbaal e Ramadan was not like any other lecture we have attended.. It was at a high intellectual level.. loved the Mind-Body-Heart-Soul Self Awareness Aspect of the lecture… Some people also wanted printouts of the presentation.

    So Alhamdullilah it went well. Dora e Quran will be starting in the Mehran Hall from the 1st of Ramadan. The entry is free and all ladies and girls are welcome.Those of you here who have reservations about the speaker… you should listen to her first before you judge her.

    When you had mentioned publicly that the blog would be moderated then why didn’t you enable the moderation by default? you knew how people would react so I didn’t get why did you still keep moderation disabled? Atleast it could save you to edit each ad every post. I am not dictating, just a thought which came in my mind.

    When other authors don’t bother to give explanation then why are you putting so much effort to convince alam and co who actually don’t want to listen you?

    keep it up and as I asked you long time back, if you could publish some list of arabic learning centers in Karachi then it would be beneficial for many. Few people asked me but I was too ignorant about such centers and I only knew about Dr.Israr’s schools.
