Oct 8th 2005, Remembered Two Years later

Pakistan Quake One Year AgoHelp-Pakistan.com : October 8th 2005, changed Pakistan forever, at precisely 08:50:38 a massive earthquake struck the northern areas of Pakistan over 80,000 lives perished in a blink of an eye, thousands were displaced ultimately resulting in millions of dollars in damage.

At this tragic moment it was really heartening to see that every Pakistani around the world joined in the relief efforts in unison to help the suffering. It was a proud moment of unity which sadly seemed to last for a fleeting moment and has long since been forgotten, the tragedy was without doubt a lesson from God Almighty, but it seems that we may have already forgotten too quickly, we continue to loot and plunder the nation with no care and worries of any repercussions whatsoever.

I would like to join A for [pine]Apple in prayer at Islamabad Metroblogs

Let’s pray for the departed souls, May Allah bless them with Maghfirah and Peace in Jannah; and for the affectees who lost limbs, families, homes, businesses, and lot more we’d never be able to even comprehend, May Allah’s blessings be with them (Ameen)

Please its time for us all to stop for a moment and reflect back on that day two years back where we were all a witness to some remarkable stories of unity, faith and discipline which was interspersed amongst the tragic loss of life, lets reflect back on the fleeting glimpses of a proud nation which stood up for something it truly believed in, if we can do it once then I believe we can do it again and not wait for another tragedy to jolt us again into our senses.

Lets preempt the rebuilding of our own nations with our own hands lets forget about any help from our politicians who continue to be self indulgent in protecting their own seats of power simultaneously amassing wealth for their own benefit. Simply said We don’t need Politicians, We need Leaders

Yes it was a great tragedy but also a proud moment for this nation, when a pop singers’s passionate plea put this nation into action, and we did what needed to be done.

We should also thank all the international support we got from friends and foes alike. The remarkable work of local and international NGO’s and the in-vluable contribution of the US Chinoks in making the rescue efforts possible. We can curse them for all the present day ills in the world but this one is on us.

In the end I would thank the author for putting up this post, but will also record my reservation on the following line , “The tragedy was without doubt a lesson from God Almighty”. I wonder what lesson was taught to the poorest and the youngest and the maimed. But lets not make this a big issue.

yes it was a lesson from almighty to not trouble kashmiri hindus and india over kashmir. What you killed hindus in about 16 yrs, one earthquake did the same to you.

ps: for sarcasm impaired, it is a sarcastic post
to those who think allah exist and is responsible for everything.

@RC – I might have mis-stated my point, I did not mean to belittle the disaster and its resulting loss of innocent lives by making such a point, many apologies, if people perceived it as such.

I was in fact trying to drive home a point (thought I admit it seems to be poorly worded) that life is so delicate that we often get carried away quite literally forgetting about life-here-after.

@An-Indian – how stunning that you were able to cook up an entire new story from the words “The tragedy was without doubt a lesson from God Almighty” – WOW maybe I should have mentioned RAW also engaged in this earthquake plot ;) LOL – funnies aside, lets all pray for the departed with full respect

    TEETH MAESTRO

No need for apologies, I also thanked you because your post reflects sincerity and genuine emotions. “Lesson from God” is a common phrase which is embeded in our Psyche, no big deal, I regret why I even brought it up.

Man! it shows when it comes from the heart and this post is from the heart.

Ameen to the prayer and a good post indeed.

We as a nation are not hopeless as the incident showed that we all are united in good and bad days.
    We stand together!

One shouldn’t forget how KMB authors of that time did awesome job to drive the volunteering work in Karachi. They deserve a great salute.

Ameen. Let’s just hope that whatever money was collected has actually been distributed to the people affected by the Earthquake.

  13. Reality_Check (unregistered) on October 9th, 2007 @ 1:35 am

MS Dont worry the money has been spent / distributed to the people, by the govt as well as the NGO’s. Ofcourse, there must have been some leakages but, by in large the aid has reached the victims. Still there is a lot of stuff happening viz a viz the rebuilding process.

“@An-Indian if permay-shaur & ganesh exist why can’t there be ALLAH.”

It didn’t occur to you that I can chose not to believe in Hindu gods also. Look up for the word “atheist” in the dictionary.

The only difference is that unlike muslims I don’t have to fear declaring myself as an atheist. Everyone in my family knows and they are OK with it. In fact quite a few politicians in india from South have espoused atheism.

In muslim land, unless someone has a death wise, no one openly admit being one, thanks to the tolerance preached in Quran for apostates.

    “@An-India

Burning is your destiny.zinda ho tu bhi jaltay ho aur marke bhi jalte ho.”

Pakison so kaun jaelga, sirf talibaaneon ko chod ke. India has progressed so far ahead of Pakistan that we actually pity decent pakistanis for being born in pakistan.

Well INDIAN you talk like the progress India made can save you from a natural disaster !
And if you are and atheist then you should have mentioned Kashmiris instead of Kashmiri hindus.
By the way check this link for your Indian progress and dont forget to boil the water before you drink, after your tap stops chocking.

Jay – I never deluded that natural disaster can not strike india. But my reply was for that idiot who was saying that indians pakion se jalte hain. is there anything we indians should envy pakis, except of course terrorism :-).
    thanks for reading.
