Airport security checks?

Karachi security officials at Jinnah International perhaps were feeling too lazy after all the fasting and let a passenger smuggle 1000 grams worth of heroin capsules. Fortunately (or unfortunately) the passenger, whose nationality has not been revealed, was caught carrying 130,000 dollars worth of dope and was subjected to an X-Ray examination at the Dubai Airport.
The passenger initially refused and later confessed that he was carrying them inside his body, in his intestines. Jinnah International Customs Officials really need to get their act together, Ramadan or no Ramadan!

what customs security check has to do with ramazan, just wondering….

why do we link each and everything/incident with religion???

Agreed it has to do nothing with Ramadan, if the security officers are lazy they’ll be lazy during Ramadan also, and plz dont give a chance to ppl like Balma and Alam (who is most probably one guy with two different nicks) to badmouth against fasting.

  3. Balma (unregistered) on October 10th, 2007 @ 9:34 pm

I don’t remember ‘badmouthing’ fasting ever!

Badmouthing Mullas and ridculing people who think it is Ramadan and not Ramazan is not bad mouthing fasting.

Custom Officials the same one I guess who would look other way if given right amount of Bakshish. I bet they were part of it. Now since cat is out of the bag now what top officials do to put their subordinates act together.

If you dont like to write Ramadan then you should not even write Ramazan, you should write like ‘Ramzan’ as their is no zabar on top of Zuwaat in urdu, or in other words their is no alif after zuwat, anyway whatever you write doesnt really matter it matters how much you respect this month of Ramadan yah Ramadan.

I want to know the national estimates in Dollars that we lose in Ramzan. Everybody thinks kaam chori and haram khori (two Ramzaan symptoms) become his/her national and religous rights in this month.

Yes, u r damned right. This is another demo of the two symptoms in Ramzan

And dont confuse me with Balma. I am like a Molana Fazlur Rehamn compared with him :D

Am I the only one who thinks this wouldnt be normally picked up. The drugs were in his intestine. That wouldnt be detectable with normal equiptment.

Some middlle eastern coutries use dogs to sniff these things out. In Pakistan we dont normally do that untill we suspect something or maybe on a random basis. This is policy.

so to blame customs for this is unfair. Personally I dont care about them but what is right is right. Its not their fault.

@Concerned – Not a single gram moves across Pakistan without the knowledge of KINGPINS of trade. That includes the GOVT Officials as well.

every african look alike dark skin no matter which passport he is carrying is screened & X-rayed at Karachi airport, even the shedi baloch of Balochistan going for overseas job are x-rayed. Thats a SOP of ANF & Customs at Jinnah Terminal.

Against every 50 grams ‘exported’ through MULES (read it as air passengers) there are 9 stake holders of the X%age of total value for “Allowance of safe passage”.

2006 onwards – against every 1 KG confiscated, there is 50 KGs allowance by AIR.

Seashipments it is a completely different scenario.

Live & Let Die – Bond Movie you need to see it again.

Read the book published in 1998 – The White Gold of Taliban. Google the book you may find it in PDF format hosted somewhere.

Hate to bad mouth my own people but only if this may do any good, I should take this opportunity to bring these observations in the knowledge of responsible people.(btw who is responsible ? a third grader?)
After being to so many airports in 2005 here comes the karachi airport. What the hell! What happened?
No good customer service, not impressive uniforms,
no confidence in communication, no information booths, not many shops etc., etc.,am I belittling my city?
I mean airport is your first impression.

I think Karachi airport is pretty cool. One problem is that there aren’t too many flights coming to Karachi which dictates shops etc at the airport.

I don’t know if you remember the old terminal 2. It was really nasty.

I also remember the original airport building which I think was also pretty nice.

Read this and have a good laugh on the stupidity of pakis.
It is really funny and gives tremendous insight at to the maturity of ordinary pakis.

Amidst political, cultural and religious turmoil that exists between
East and West, there is a dire need to create harmony and consensus on
controversial issues by think tanks on both sides. Instead, a virtual
war is on. Take, for example, a recently released computer game called
“Lord Lussi vs King Jabbar”. The main theme of the game is the crusade
    between Muslims and Christians.
The Muslim Caliph Jabbar is referred to as ‘jackal’ while the
Christian King Lussi is called the ‘saviour’. The humiliation of the
Muslim civilization does not end here. The Muslim Caliph calls for
Jihad time and again which he loses every time. Jihad is done through
suicide attacks against innocent civilians. The game ends with a
defeat of the Muslims. -DR AZHAR MUKHTAR SINDHU, Bhawalpur, via e-
    mail, September 15.

    Good pick Heena,

I recently travelled to Hong Kong in Ramadan and to my utter surprise that day all the people were asked to remove their shoes and walk on the floor barefooted through the X-ray amchine.

While I complained, I was told it is a normal procedure and I MUST follow it otherwise …. and yes they said the floor is clean.

but yes …. it was after the Iftaari so guess the guess were fresh.

Today religion is nothing but a CHARADE in Pakistan.

THIS is why we Pakistanis must separate Religion from Governance . . . so that Religion can be Religion, and Governance can be Governance.

The fact that this crime was attempted (during) the “holy” month of Ramadan clearly (demonstrates) “how” gullible Pakistani Muslims are when it come to religion. Anything can be done to us under the facade of religion (because) we put our REASONING at the back seat when it comes to Religion, Religious Festivities etc.

Hasan Zuberi, don’t know you have been to alot of airports in the worls but it is a usual practice these days to take off shoes and go through the X-ray. In alot of countries they followo this practice even for domestic flights. So don’t be surprised. I wonder what people will do if we implement this in Pakistan, I think they will get very cranky and for some people it will be an ego issue. I may be completely wrong and Pakistan must’ve already implemented me. But tell me what’s the situation for airport security in Karachi? What checks do you have to go through?

  36. Hasan Zuberi (unregistered) on October 12th, 2007 @ 1:41 pm

    @ IMRAN:

    Seperate religion from state ??

Brother … Islam is not a religion it is a way of life … it teaches you every aspect of life and not just bowing your head to your creater.

So how can you seperate your daily life schedule from the state ?? …. uncomprehensible.

    @ XYZ:

I have travelled to majority of the destinations in South East Asia & Middle East … only experienced this (i.e. Shoe removal) at Dubai and even that only last year … but atleast the floor was carpeted and very clean … also theyhave put a mat where you have to walk barefooted, unlike Karachi airport where you can see the dirty lines of sweep-mop visible on the flooring.

Ok I need to task two things…

1 – XRAY machine caught up the Marijuana/Heroin? How did that happen?

2 – How the heck did he put all that in his intestines? I mean did he get it shoved up his pooper? or what? How can a person survive with something like that in his body? It’s a post by Heena P so you have got to confirm it.

Also, I tried looking for it on Google and couldn’t find anything. Perhaps, I am trying the wrong keywords. HEENA P, can you give us the source of this news please?

Hasan Zuberi, airports in south east asian countries not always have these checks but almost all western countries require the passengers to take shoes off along with other objects with metal (belts, mobile phones of course). This is just a security measure to curb terrorism and smuggling of arms etc. This is for our own security and I believe everyone of us should be encouraging these measures and not look at them as a pain. Let’s make this world a peaceful place to live in.

Zee, totally agree with your questions. I would like to see the answers too!

Eid Mubarak to everyone! (if it applies to you and you celebrate it)

    Hasan Zuberi, you wrote:
“Islam is not a religion (it is a way of life) … it teaches you …”

Heard (that) before … but call it religion or way of life, the politics of religion is essentially a battle for god … which practically divides humanity on the basis of (personal belief) rather than uniting humanity – we can all see that globally which ever religion we may or may not belong to.

To me ‘Humanism’ is a more transforming experience – because the basis of Humanism is not god, it is people.

These capsules in the intestines are pretty dangeoruos. You fall over and die instantly, such a case has already happened at Karachi Airport where the person was being taken for x-ray he tried to escape and fall over, capsule burst person died. Thse capsules are placed there by most unnatural of the method. All your guesses are right!
