Omer Sharif
Warid users probably received following text message recently:
Special Comedy play on 25,26,27 Oct.9pm @ Arts council Karachi tickets Rs500-1500 available @ McDonald’s: Tariq Road, Nazimabad, Tin Talwar, Airport. Info 080078601.
I received this message from “Omer Sharif” but there is no one by that name in my address book. Also, I cannot reply or call the sender of the message.
So basically warid is spamming me by sending messages without my authorization. Guess it’s another annoyance that we have to live with it.
And by the way, I don’t know how many people will decide to see the play just by this sms.
Go Figure! : |
mobilink customers are into spamming too. they call you and say that if you buy a jazz card and give the 14 digit activation code to them, then your name will be included in a lottery for winning 5 lacs.
yayyyyyyy! hurray! terrific! i wonder if there are any morons out there who actually fall for it.
p.s. a word to the wise: how about doing a quick re-read of your post before posting to screen for grammatical inconsistencies?
Well at least be happy that you are not charged for incoming SMS messages like we in the U.S. are, so you can just delete the message and not worry about paying for it. (we are also charged for incoming calls, btw)
Omer sharif is getting old (with apologies to him).
You guys and GIRLS need a new blood in the industry.
Not me ! They pay me here for not telling a joke :)
They are not violating your ‘authority’ When you sign up for their service the terms contain ‘seldom SMS to advertise events’ etc.
It’s nothing really to post about. And many should infact go see the Play by the SMS. This isn’t your personal complain blog. You should infact be glad that you got notified by Warid for such an event.
Hmmm…. can Umar be sued by Warid for defaming them because he didn’t read the fine print in the contact he signed? :)
Dude,
I dont think Warid has anything to do at all with this.
Its a strategy called number masking, and is available with many sms based services firms. Though it is ellegal, but even the operator cant block such things effectively.
Recent case in point was a website launch in ramadan to send eid wishes out to people. You could enter the number you wanted to be the messege sender, and it would send it on that behalf over the web, masking the original number with yours.
I think the mobile operators did take notice of that too.
report that to PTA wth date & time of message –
