    exciting stuff. But any idea about the price of this iphone?? Also, how reliable r these ‘unlocked’ versions of iphones??

    Yea the unlock (ver) of the phone is available in the market and costing around rs 40,000 which is far beyond the actual price but who cares since we are getting the unlocked one isn’t it awesome, all the mobile enthusiasts around Khi contact Raja Islam he’s into the business i beleive :P

    They’re as reliable as they come. Since the unlock is software based, you can always flash them again in case anything goes wrong.

    ny: its not that outrageous.. there are fones on the market which are even more expense, like the nokia 8800 Gold is selling for 66780!

    i believe the N series is also quite expensive.. particularly the nokia n90 which is selling for 56290.

    comparatively, the iphone may still be cheap :p

    It looks great and the functionality is superb. But I wonder what use, besides impressing others with your bling, does it have in Karachi. Most webApps are designed to be worked in the US, like the basic search tool. If u type in “Pizza Hut Rashid Minhas Road” its not that it will end up with the contact details of the particular Pizza hut, because google maps doesn’t support places in Karachi (yet).

    It is unlocked, but what happens when Steve Jobs releases a new firmware. You will be stuck between chosing to keep it unlocked or upgrading the firmware.

    no the unlocking in Iphone is not software based !
    It require some hardware altering too! a very tricky process!

    Google out the I phone unlocking process u will get to know about it!

    Heh, I got my iPhone for $440 and unlocked it myself.

    And there are several methods available for unlocking. There are software based methods.

    George Hotz was the first hacker to unlock Iphone.. he used hardware tweaking

    However, other hackers have pioneered software tweaking by which you do not need to mess with the hardware

    iphone in pakistan are rejected units from US
    it cost retailers around 25 to 30 k and they sell it for 45k

    Unlocking means no more warranty from the manufacturer and since the last firmware update from apple; iphones locked phoens are getting disabled…so you are on your own!!
