Imran Khan evades arrest

News is just coming in that the army had gone to arrest Imran Khan to take him to Kot Lakhpath but Imran Khan has evaded arrest. No news about his whereabouts and he remains missing. Updates to follow, if any.

There was a meeting at the Karachi Press Club organized by a number of organizations where it was decided to organize a protest at 4:00pm Monday 5th November outside the Karachi Press Club, while the Lawyers are also scheduled to protest outside the courts at 8:00am in the morning. A number of leaders addressed the gathering which included Fakhruddin G Ibrahim as well.

    Great!!

    I have a question to MUSH .
Dude you couldn’t catch the thieves in 8 years, couldn’t remove Chaudhries from power in Punjab, could do so the same in Sindh against Waderas, removed your own man BUGTI when you deemed fit, promoted hate against WEST deliberately in NWFP to engineer attacks against low ranking sepoy to get WEST at your side……….Is simple words your ruined this country and you want next 80 years…

And now you are after someone like IMRAN KHAN?
    Have you gone nuts ?

Surprise! Surprise! - “Emergency may delay Pakistan poll“.

  6. Reality_Check (unregistered) on November 4th, 2007 @ 8:03 pm

This obviously was an exercise in futility, they should have informed Imran Khan about emergency a day or two earlier, then he would have conveniently disappeared anyway and re-surfaced in London or Dubai.

    Sometimes people just dont think!

    Editorial, The News, Nov 4

    Black Saturday

    Sunday, November 04, 2007
November 3 will go down as another dark day in Pakistan’s political and constitutional history. It can be safely said that this is one of General Pervez Musharraf’s gravest errors of judgment, and a sorry indication that nothing has been learnt from the mistakes of the past. The imposition of emergency rule and suspension of the 1973 Constitution announced on Saturday is only going to destroy the very institutions that this country crucially needs for evolving into a true democracy, particularly the judiciary, media and parliament. It will further fracture an already weakened federation, alienate those who have grievances against the centre, such as the Tribal Areas and Balochistan, and push whatever little credibility the government had down a very deep abyss. Such a draconian step will also have little effect on our ability to fight terrorism and extremism. It would be fair to assume that the emergency has been imposed only to target two institutions: the judiciary and the media but it may well have poisonous effects on another: i.e. parliament. Those in the ruling PML-Q will be foolish not to realise that the legislative branch of government has received a death blow as well since the imposition has come from an army general.

The fact that the official statement carrying the emergency announcement used ‘army chief’ rather than president to refer to the authority behind the promulgation is significant as well indicating that perhaps what we have on our hands is a de facto martial law — one in which the assemblies will function but only to give the impression that democracy has not been hampered in any manner. Furthermore, the timing of the proclamation, a few days before an expected judgment on a case that could have potentially declared the president’s re-election null and void, is such that very few people in this country, or overseas for that matter, will buy the argument that it has been imposed to arrest the deteriorating law and order situation and to allow the government to focus on fighting extremism and militancy. It will be difficult to remove public doubts that it has only been imposed to target a superior judiciary that has finally found some spine and is carrying out its constitutional role of acting as a watchdog on the executive, which in Pakistan’s case was often overstepping its constitutionally-defined authority. As for the media, the fact that private television channels were blacked out for the better part of Saturday is a grim indication of the government’s intentions. However, here too, such bans are essentially counter-productive and will be seen by ordinary Pakistanis as a desperate act of a regime bent on shielding itself from criticism.

Meanwhile, the Chief Justice of Pakistan has been informed that his services were no longer required. In any case, the promulgation of a provisional constitutional order would mean that most of the judges of the Supreme Court who had in recent weeks taken a brave and defiant stand against the government and the military would be pushed aside and not be invited to take a fresh oath; many would in all probability decline such an offer. As news of the imposition of emergency spread, eight members of the Supreme Court defiantly struck down the proclamation, which could well trigger off a new stand-off. The future is not looking good — not least because the president’s move is bound to have massive repercussions and a severe response from all segments of civil society. Such acts are indefensible at any time, more so in this day and age.

Its a lie - Imran Khan is arrested soon after his statment ‘Musharraf ko phansi laga dayne chahyeay’

    - in what capacity he is demanding death sentence to someone in power-

what would you people do here IF I DEMAND -

    - RABIA GHARIB KO FORUN SHADI KARLAYNEE CHAHYEAY -

you may ban my IP - but you cannot stop me coming back :)

Imran Khan is lately suffering from ‘Being Alone’ syndrome and since he is now a puppet politician he cannot womenise as he use to be - so he is gone haywire. (not gay on wire ok ! )

Can we be a bit constructive arounds here? So what can we as Karachi citizens do to fulfill our Quiad-e-Azam’s dream?

According to Dawn news below, Imran Khan has been arrested along with Asma Jehangir and Hamid Gul:

Up to 500 arrests after emergency imposed: Shaukat Aziz ISLAMABAD, Nov 4 (AFP): Up to 500 people have been arrested across Pakistan in a crackdown launched after the declaration of a state of emergency, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said Sunday. “There have been 400 to 500 preventative arrests in the country,” Aziz told a news conference in Islamabad, giving the first confirmed figure since President Musharraf imposed emergency rule on Saturday. Prominent people among the 500 arrested opposition activists include Javed Hashmi, acting president of PML-N; cricketer turned politician, Imran Khan; Chairman Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Asma Jehangir; and Hamid Gul, former chief of the ISI and a staunch critic of Musharraf.

@Jamal Hilarious - thanks for bringing a smile on my face.

rest - I may agree we all have a lot of pent up anger, but can we channel it into something worthwhile and productive or are we the typical Pakistan drawing room politician who would yell the loudest inside but runs for cover when asked to put actions into words. I ask this question without any sarcasm, just a simple question? can we, with all our differences join hands to make our lives better?

Geez with the way they are rounding up all the opposition why do we need elections - heck nominations would be perfect.

I too am puzzled as to who can be our leader, like it or not BB is going to be too tough to swallow for at least me. others might think differently and they have their right to do so

Teetho - we are on same league, you will never find me behind.

In late 90s’ i have worked closely with people who are really concerned with the traffic chaos in Karachi,.

The ‘Little Organized’ parking lots at Karachi Airport and systematic 4 entry point active on Parking enterance is OUR courtesy.

Few of us took HEAD ON with the MOD - and SINDH GOVT. Behind us was Only ourselves with a retired SINDH High Court CJ who made sure his presence in our weekly meetings and Twisting ARMS of those who messed with us.

CAA initially resisted then joined hands, and we are still helping them when they ask.

in return we spent by ‘volunteer sponsorship’ the painting of parking lot dividers, flourescent boards and the food for those on duty.

we floated the idea of radio cab / prepaid cab service, at that time One person stepped forward and obtained license to operate private airport cab service with his 15 cars, and that was a HIT.

9 years now, i see and feel happy that the roaster and the duty schedules we have implemented, for staff to be polite and helpful with visitors, cleaning of concourse, operational rest rooms, operational parking entry gates, monitoring of vehicles, parking for long & short term areas, bicycles & motorcycles segregated and managed in respective stands it is very much intact operational and people are punctual and working hard for improvement.

Now there are 9 cab services operating at Karachi airport, with over 200 cabs available from 7 PM till 7 AM shift every day

based on that I feel and strongly believe that YES we can enlarge our objective and make people understand we are a nation with great potential to move way ahead then the BC Tuchal M O F U UAE.

    - we ( you & people like you and me) are not about politics and we shall not look at politicians for our betterment. If we can help ourselves by starting & managing community service without any biasing but by ‘Devoting some Time’ and staying low profile we can see the improvment and elevation of awareness.

That is grass root level from where we can start anytime.

YOU & ME have no hidden agenda to be biased or opportunist, I believe and can safely say many who contribute here are neutral and wish to see Pakistan moving ahead,

however - I do not believe in any leader, My leader is / will be the one who is / will lead Pakistan out of Mullayat, as well as the growing NUNNGA PAN and Put a leash on Video Media, on top of All - The one who can work for fundamental basic needs to everyone from Sakran to Khunjarab to your door step

    a. drinking water
    b. basic health
    c. basic education
    e. women protection from abuse

    – period –

I mean no offence to ANYONE.

There is minimum security in Lahore and Karachi except for ISB, all the crises exist in the court rooms and media studios.

Since May this country has been made into a joke, petition after petition, suo moto after suo moto, peshee after peshee. Politicians have failed miserably to effect any change and are hogging the courts. Its in the interest of the media to inflate crisis after crisis. Taakey anchors kee dukaan sajee rahe. Now people will get the chance to watch entertainment channels for a change and relax. Its now upto the
govt to do its job and rewind the clock eight months and restore order. There is no excuse now.

@Adnan - since you wrote MS. I knew she is not MRS. -

    - -

    - BB will take all the benefit of NRO, but her dream to be PM again will never be accomplished, it is a safe bet unless otherwise WE all choose to strip ourselves in public for mass rape by those who are failures in Afghanistan & Iraq.

    - Army knows very clear BB has not forgotten what Zia have done to ZA Bhutto. She is on venegance agenda no matter Pakistan or no Pakistan., she will not forgive Army, in statments worldwide she had been quiet vocal about role of Army in nuclear proliferation and declared that she will bring everyone to task if she comes to power be it respectable honorable AQ Khan or any of present or retired army generals.

Whatever - Musharraf means army - last nite on Zee News at PST 10.30, CNN IBN 11.00 PST a analyst very rightly said “Any army General would have done the same thing with a civilian rule as the way situtaion is aggrevating in Tribal belt of Pakistan and Gradual Talibanisation of NWFP’ So of Musharraf has done it with all the blessings of his comrades in Arms and India shall keep a close watch on situation in pakistan. Talibanisation of Pakistan is not in the interest of India and we shall morally support Musharraf and allies for stable moderate Pakistan”

Musharraf is a Soldier and an SSG soldier - and SSG dudes always land ‘behind the enemy lines’ and not all makes back home alive - Those who fall are buried there by their comrades and mission goes on. They only mourn for dead when they make it home.

Look at the picture since October 1999. Very smartly and in swift move Musharraf have exposed the SO CALLED National leaders.

From all 4 provinces the politicians are exposed to the skin.

it now rests on WE commoners who we choose and how we choose our fate.

It is time that urban areas wake up and stand firmly together.
