HWL has had intrests in Pakistan for several years now as the controlling interest in PICT (Pak Container Terminal @ kpt) & this deal has been in the works for a while now.

As good as this would be for the economy, the jobs created would largely benefit the lowest class. i.e the un-educated & unskilled labour.

+ when we already have a Pakistani company (KICT, owned and operated by Haleem Siddiqi – An Urdu Speaking Karachitte), why was it that HWL were granted rights for a quater of a century without a proper tender and without keeping national intrests in mind??

- I graduated from high school in a period when academic year was of 5 months only and sessions were running on ‘ 3 ‘ years delay & after intermediate the mandatory wait for admission at a prof college university was 14 – 16 months.

Overseas investors pull $235m from KSE

While foreign investments in projects like PTCL, or KESC hasn’t made life better for the ordinary karachi citizen by any means, such volatility that exists in the stock exchange due to the lax policies by the government (such as no capital gains tax etc), hurts the retail investor and leaves a large number of people virtually bankrupt.

Even mutual funds investors will be hurt by this move as values of all securities will come tumbling down. This is a major crisis for the financial sector.
