Unveiling operations of a local software house
I remember seeing the advertisement from a local company offering a handsome salary of around 55k per month and promising a car to candidates. The ad was placed in the Daily Dawn, Classified, Sunday, the careers section.
There were opportunities for software engineers and network engineers and I thought about applying there, but a close friend of mine stopped me from doing so and told me a story about the company. This story was not new for me but it was never told from a mouth that I could trust.
No matter how inquisitive I was to know the truth I had no source to do so.
Only today when a colleague forwarded me an email and asked me to check it out. This was an article was published in the “Daily Ummat” and was forwarded by an email from a public group raising awareness among people.
Now that this article was printed in a news paper, I have the urge to know if there’s any fact in the software house “AXACT” doing porn business.
There are links in the article that show the name of the software house and the discussion forums from the employees
I’m still not very sure, but I would like to know if any of the readers have any experience with the company? My colleague, fresh graduate of NED University tells me that one of his class mates got an offer letter from the company but has refused to join because of the above mentioned reason

Well, i just got out of NED and found a job at a good Software house, much before Axact had given their advertisement in Dawn. Had i been unemployed i might have tried my luck there. But i have talked to people and some of them have strictly forbidden me to stay away from Axact. This article in Ummat is written much like a novel than a first hand account of someone. My friends have also been interviewed there and one of them said that there was a smell of disturbance and oppression inside the campus. :)
This post will be considered seriously libelous in a civilized country. Before posting it, a responsible blogger would gave checked the company’s website, if they are averse to talking to the company’s management. Don’t they have a Code of Conduct for writers at this site?
Unaiza is trying to portray if software engineers are being kidnapped at gunpoint and made to work as slaves in galleys. With so many perks I doubt they will be employing anyone under 18 to work on adult sites. Pornography is a fact of life in Pakistan, accessible to children as young as 10. Pornography is not confined to the West, it thrives in conservative societies even more because of our hypocritical attitude towards reality. We have all seen film songs form Pakistan - mostly Punjabi and Pushto - which are highly revolting, suggestive and distasteful.
The post would have more credibility if the writer had alluded to the fate of minors working at tea stall, car workshops and domestic servants or the exploitation of prostitutes at the hand of influential customers and authorities. What about the kids kidnapped, mutilated and forced to beg to earn for their kidnappers in lifelong slavery?
PS: No, I don’t work for this company or even in the field of IT.

Thanks for the information but I am thinking why should we all be bothered if they are in the porn business? Of course the porn business is wrong but don’t we all do the wrong things?
Aren’t people from our own society involved in acts which are not considered good?

I am sure all of the above are probably as bad as working for a porn business.
The bottom line is, even if they do the porn business and someone joins them, it’s up to that individual; that individual is going to be responsible for the acts committed by him; I think we should leave it to the discretion of the individuals and not worry about it and don’t make it a big issue!
Of course if its illegal then the government should do something about it before something like “Lal-Masjid students taking control their own hands” occurs :)
By the way, I myself would not work for such a company, not even in USA where the porn business is legal!
Unaiza, Axact is definitely in porn business but this is not their primary bread & butter. Their major work is of content writing & online degrees. They write poor quality thesis for a handsome amount. I am not quoting this from the article but from many of my colleagues who used to work there. They r converting their black money into white by advertising high salary jobs & by acquiring a large property in the most expensive area of khi.
The people who resign from axact with dignity r followed up to atleast 1 year on phone. Every month they r gonna call u & ask u abt where r u working? what kind of projects r u on etc.
Axact does not sell any product or service(porn?) in the Pakistani market and its only interest in Pakistan is quality human resource.
I think it was a good post to make people aware of what this company exactly does. Once I read the post, I pinged some of my friends and they indeed confirmed the degree story.
It is our responsibility to unveil the evil in our society. If someone is doing it, at least have the decency to appreciate it.
Those who have to fight to quit working there have to bear threats to them & their family. One of my friend worked their for more than a year as a SE (software engineer) & all he developed their was in house applications that do not bring in any kind of revenue such as employee attendance system & a quite useful lunch order system. He never saw any developer working on some actual project to sell.
A small room was also in use by AXACT on the top floors of Anum State (their office was in Anum State, 5th & 6th floor before they moved to defence). The said room was mysterious as no one was allowed in their but only one person. He & other used to think that that was the “printing press” for fake/online degrees. God knows better

I did a bit of research on the sites that you mentioned, and noted the following:
- While the site contents may be different for each, there is certainly enough to suggest that each of the sites was made by the same author and/or follow the same general templates (to name a few : note that Contact Us is CCForm.aspx in all pages and the Order Now follows the same general pattern, the footers seem awefully similar - there are a LOT more commonalities).

I also observed that all such web sites r anonymously registered. Even axact.com is anonymously registered (via godaddy.com) . There is no board of directors, CEO, etc details on the web site.

Lets look at the facts rather than settling our personal grudges on this blog. The allegation made by the Ummat newspaper in the first 2 articles where it has talked about porn does not state the name of Axact. This blog for the first time has linked one of these articles with Axact. Therefore, I believe that this kind of defamation has occurred on this blog for the first time and the allegation of porn was directly made on Axact here. The third article that ummat wrote mentioned the name of Axact and Kalsoft but has not linked Axact with Porn rather mentioned something about their research and writing business and quoted something written by a british newspaper which Axact has already described in its response on its website. That article did not talk about porn. Ummat however in its porn story covered in the first two articles has described a bungalow with intercom speaker, bell, metal detector etc. Axact does not own any bungalow with any such facility and its building is located on the main road. Kalsoft does own a bungalow but we cannot establish that they are involved in porn. The mentioned job advertisement resembles that of Axact however just to clarify that Axact and Kalsoft are 2 companies with big branding and infrastructure in the area of defence and it makes sense for any blackmailer to target them.
There are more than 500 employees currently working for Axact with around 20% female staff. There are around 100+ employees that are graduates of TOP 5 universities of Pakistan including IBA, FAST, Karachi University. There are 2 prayer rooms with ablution area and as far as my knowledge goes most of the people in the organization are religious and offer prayers. The response provided by Axact on the following URL makes some sense as no company in illegal business will file so many lawsuits that includes criminal complaint against a newspaper as well.

In this response they have mentioned what they do. According to them they comply 100% with local (Pakistani) and international law. Hence they have officially mentioned that there is nothing illegal that they do.
No high profile company like Axact can involve itself in Porn business in Pakistan with high profile employees and high profile infrastructure. The people who are making comments here should first read the above-mentioned URL and ask themselves if they fall in one of the groups described there.
I know that Axact provides excellent facilities not offered by anyone else in Pakistan as I have visited the Axact house and there are great people over there. Porn is illegal in Pakistan and so does placing allegations like the ones mentioned here. Moreover, we should try to contact directly the company on the email addresses it has provided in its response rather than making allegations that seems false and baseless. Internet is a dangerous media to defame anyone and we should not use it for the same purpose. The Ummat article was also a result of defamatory thread posted on a private yahoo group by anonymous identities. Now that very article is posted here to generate same anonymous libelous postings. I have recently received an email containing apology from the moderator of that Yahoo Group which he sent to all the members of the group after realizing the damage that was caused to Axact. We over here are also committing the same mistake. Placing allegations is defamatory and is a criminal and civil offence in Pakistan

I have worked in Karachi for a long time and have many friends who ran from Axact after a lot of difficulty. They can at-least confirm that Axact is in essay writing and fake degree business - both of which may not be illegal (you know the lawyers) but definitely unethical.
Apart from this, no person working at Axact is allowed to tell even his fellows at Axaxt what he is working on.
If software developers in any company r writing “papers”, uploading videos, designing porn website, or evaluating degrees, etc, then this is the wrost startup job, a developer can do, even if the salary package or other benefits r way unbeatable in market.
5 years down the career, what r these developers supposed to show in their resume? That they wrote un-citable papers? or designed porn web sites? or took care of porn web site operations? I think their careers would be done after few years in such position.
Young software developers r supposed to “grow” in their careers, getting more experience, skills set, etc. I am saying this as a senior software developer who started in KHI, worked for years there, and then moved out, a long time ago. I have no conflict of interests with any company in KHI
So, my advice to young developers is: Start with a company which enriches your career and experience, even if they give u small salary.

Pornography is just a part. The thing even more worth worrying about is; they are not only doing harm to education worldwide by selling ready-made thesis/dissertations (which are poor quality too) and issuing fake degrees; but spoiling precious human resources of our city and country. Moreover they continue to threaten and harass their ex-employees long after leaving (or escaping). It will be better if one can have legal suggestions (like Barrister sb. gave). PKHAN must not have either direct source of information OR could be a well-wisher (or employee); otherwise he/she would not have been defending this negative business. Defending evil without knowing evil’s crimes is the worst option, if one is least bothered about reforming.

For those people who think there’s nothing wrong with porn, they can have their beliefs. But harassment of employees, disallowing them to leave, or forcing them tow work despite unwillingness, tracking their activities when they are on the payroll and also afterwards. These are the things which everybody is pointing out.

Since when did a fresh graduate get Rs. 55k, car and what-else? It means that:
1. Either all companies except one are unfair to their employees by underpaying them, OR
2. One company is doing something fishy so they are able to extract more from their clients, and pay more to their employees.
Which one seems more correct?

I worked in AXACT for a couple of months on a post of researcher. I am not sure about the ‘porn’ thing but they do something very unethical.
Here it is: We as researchers and writers had to respond to emails and complete daily slots of writing assignments. These assignments came as a form of emails from people from all over the world particularly, University grads and undergrads from UK and USA. They used to sent us the requirements for their essays, statement of interests related to jobs and admissions, thesis etc and we as ‘researchers’ had to write those essays, assignments for them!!!
Just imagine for a 1,000 WC the company would charge up to 850 British Pounds from these students/clients!
Furthermore, when each assignment used to finished and sent, there were recheck on the things left at first attempt.
Where we got the information for the particular essays, well the company provided the researchers with a user id and password of International academic data communities such as ‘Ingenta’. Of course one cannot get these passwords unless they are full time students in a foreign University or belong to an academic research institution.
Come to think of the quality of the essays when you have to complete up to 10 each day. Mostly, it was ‘cut and paste’ from various academic journals and articles and goggle. Plagiarism was involved because some time the clients used to find it out and resent the articles to company so to fix it up.
Various training on how to write an academic paper for international universities was provided by the company.
No doubt, I got a handsome salary!
axact: well first of all let me explain you Axact is not an IT company, they have bunch of unethical business sum up together at axact house in DHA. their primary business if Fake degrees and eassy writiting. other than this they also create logos, basically all they do is create logo’s and graphics for their clients, (they dont actually create any graphics, all they do is search on google and steal other companies logos and sell to their clients after little modifications.)
they have mentioned couple of products in their website, well interestingly they dont sell them, all those softwares/products are implemented in-house at axact, main purpose is to almost finish communication between employees, like they have developed webbased Axact portal, everyone communicates with each other through this portal, 2, they have a hi-fi telephonic exchange for intenral usage,as mentioned in their website.
i have met some of their senior software engineers and believe me my little brother of 16 years knows much more than them, those stupid freaks only knows how to make a website, forexample one of senior software engineer at axact mentioned in his Resume, he has developed more than 2000 websites in period of just 2 years, for reference http://www.arsalanz.com, it smells like they have ready made templates of porn/fake degrees websites, other wise i cant imagine making 3 to 4 professional websites in a day

Its very very easy to file a case in US. You can even file it online. Main thing is to persue it with AXACT is unable to do and will never do because they know that they are involved in illegal activities. And they also they that its very easy to prove it. Everything leaves digital print.

Also, if I am correct, it seems like a case of degree from a jaali institute, not of jaali degrees. I mean degrees are aslee, but the degree granting institution is jaali.
Also, while ummat did a good job investigating, but to clarify, it is possible to get Phd even without a MS degree. MS degree is not a must.

You r so right. When the ummat story came on Liaqat, I was so moved. I wrote an email to them congratulating them, even though, as atheist, I hate their right wing Islamist twist on all news items. Ummat newspaper is something to watch for, for their investigative news.
At the same time, I wrote an email to DAWN, telling them to learn some lessons on how journalism is done. This is really pathetic that DAWN has become such a lousy newspaper. I have read it for almost two decades, and care about it.
Not that I am as old as you, Alam Ara, I wasn’t even around two decades ago, but I wish I could read good urdu newspapers. Dawn and News have such bad language skills that I feel disgusted sometime. I wish they will improve their English writing skills at these newspapers.
I have stopped reading print version of Jang due to ishtehaaraat kee bharmaar, plus its constant chamchaageeri of hukoomat-e-vaqt, but have recently started reading Jang’s website, and I guess online jang is not bad most of the time as long as they are writing urdu in Urdu and not writing English in Urdu. But, again, Dawn and News English standards have gone to dogs.
Daitly times seems unprofessional. And, Jasaarat, ummat are too UBL like.

well, even a graduate in statistics is better than CS engineer. Most software engineers know if-then statements and no idea about perf numbers or functional analysis of their algo.
The problem with Burney is not that he is statistician, but that he is a corrupt person. He should have been charged with the crime of fraudently helping a wanna-be-crminal politician.
I think since Ummat has investigated this, they should have the honor of bringing a law suit against this Burney ass, plus Karachi University.

This I know b/c some friend of mine from the BS(CS) dept told me.
Also, Ummat is not jamati newspaper. Their pioneer, Dr. Sarwat Jamal Asma’i was a jamati but when he initiated the newspaper left the party since he said he didn’t want to make it another Jasarat (listen all Jamatis: Jasarat is not a newspaper, its a jamati newsletter), and that the hee wouldn’t be able to do justice to journalism while he was in a party (since unbiased journalism wouldn’t be possible).

I am a legal practitioner and I have gone through the official response of Axact http://www.axact.com/truth and also what is written over here. I want to make an honest comment that no company doing anything illegal will go for so many defamation cases globally including cases against local and foreign newspapers. A lot is being written about our politician and even other multinational companies. Some links are also provided in these postings. How many have actually gone ahead and filed a defamation case? It is difficult to file and pursue legal matters over here as well as anywhere in the world; atleast more difficult than making anonymous postings on an internet blog!
In India when outsourcing boom started it ate a lot of jobs in the west. There were many defamation campaigns that started against various companies and even the country itself. As a result of which pressure was built on companies to bring the outsourced work back to their home countries. Even companies like Dell succumb to this pressure. However India as country came strong which resulted in closure of communities like “we hate India” and formulation of many laws including provision to the police department to obtain IP addresses immediately from companies like Google etc. to combat defamation and other crimes committed anonymously.

As I have said that the degrees are not jaali, but the schools are jaali. Let me explain this a bit more. I believe that even the schools are not jaali. It is the people who are giving their money to these schools are stupid and intend to fraud people, and therefore are jaali.
I mean look at this way, once in Athens I saw few jaali universities there claiming some relationship to some fraudy US school.

The bastion of burger education in Karachi, Greenwich University, is supposedly affiliated with some US university or UK University. I bet, if someone checks the foreign univ this bruger bastion is affiliated with, one will find a post office box number as the address….or some jaali UPS store (Mail Box Etc) fake address pretending to be a real street address.
Similarly, Preston University on Drigh Road in Karachi claims US affiliation. It is also supposed to be a branch of US university. Ever bothered to check their US parent’s address.
But, lets give the credit where it is due. Preston and Greenwich both have one house or one building based campus and both do give some learning expreience to its students. It is just that our whole fucking assholish qaum is fucking fraudy and show off, that they prefer universities with western sounding names than local private university such as Hamdard or Sir Syed. I think two bit burgers will feel it insulting if they accept they go to Hamdard, which is a university speard over hundreds (?) of acres and has endowment etc…..noooo, these mother fucking burgers want western sounding names, even if they are dubious schools such as greenwich…. khair….this is another topic.
Also, US is a free country and lots of peole are out to make people chay wow all the time. For example, in the US it is not illegal to incorporate a university using some stupid name such as Blama University Inc.
Once you have something like this, fraudy Balma can start building businesses in Karachi such as Preston and Greenwich which can claim US affiliation.
Another thing…..it is perfectly legal in the US to start a University and give degrees based on life experience….Since the advent of Internet, people all over the world have gotten PHD degrees from them:-), but twenty, twenty five years ago, most such customers were US based. People actually want to have a title, give money to these universities and get PhDs.
So it is extremely important to check the credentials of people claiming US degrees. None of these duss numbery universities are accredit by any professional organization. Heck, even Pakistan Engineer Council maintains a list of recognized foreign universities.
therfore, now I believe, this chay wow Liaquat Hussain is not the main guilty party. The real culprit is that Karachi University Burning Ass..fucking burney… I hope they hang him upside down and let dogs harrass him during this.
A point which I need to mention here is that whether or not they are doing an illegal act is still debatable but the kind of comments made here seems to violate many local laws. In Pakistan these comments can take anyone to the court as per the provisions of Defamation ordinance 2002 and also some sections of PPC like 500, 501 and 502. These sections calls for criminal investigation and FIR can be lodged against the person making such comments.

People consider fake degrees and plagiarised papers unethical (if not illegal) because they are. Companies involved in them should come out clean and say they r involved in it, so that candidates think clearly before applying for jobs there, and staking their careers. Nobody accuses a company of dubious dealings because they hate the country. It is defamatory on ur part to say so.
Dell moved call center services for their business customer back to the US, and not for their residential customers. The reason was that business customers were fed up with Indian accents and Subraminiums pretending to be Sams and Lakshmis pretending to be Lucys. Just kidding, but Dell thought that their highest paying customers (businesses) should get better service than the Indian call centers could provide.
And Tajamul Hussain type people are the reason everyone in Pakistan should be suspicious of lawyers’s movement for democracy. These lawyers are society’s rejects….have you ever seen a kid claiming to become a lawyer when he or she grows up?….yes, 70/80 years ago, but not today. Only society’s rejects go to law colleges in Paksitan these days.
Lawyers and judges are extremely corrupt in Pakistan and should not be trusted at all.
