Economic Progress or Economic Desperation?

Saw this commotion at a Utility store in Sindhi Muslim, the Ata truck had barely arrived, but the scramble was frantic …. Though I must admit the question poised along with these images does have an apparent bias but I still would refrain from drawing my own conclusion and would rather see if possible both sides of the story a debate on an issue which impacts us all, in some way or another.

Had our people be practising population control, we very likely won’t have to see such a situation, nor all that population-related environmental degradation etc.

govt was claiming bumper wheat crop.. obviously some mismanagement from govt’s side..

  7. d0ct0r (unregistered) on January 6th, 2008 @ 1:21 am

govt said that it had too much surplus wheat so it exported at the rate of $200 per ton.. now after they’ve exported too much, shortage is created here.. and now govt is importing wheat at the rate of $500~$550 per ton…

Pakistan is filled with talented and smart people but they don’t go in politics. Majority of Political leaders belongs to incredibly rich and wealthy corporate business families, their objective is to enhance and increase their wealth by plundering Pakistan. They pay Government official to increase their wealth, They pay media to write news in their favor. they could do it because they have means to do it. Neither PPP or nawaz tried to protect property and lives of people of Pakistan rather they contributed to its destruction.

There in conspiracy against Pakistan to strip Pakistan of its nuclear arsenal. They know it they can not defeat Pakistan militarily but they could destabilize Pakistan internally.

    1. create sentiments against Government of Pakistan doesn’t matter if it is Musharraf or somebody else.
    2. Create hatred against Pakistan Armed Forces.
    3. Destroy Pakistan economy by let lose criminal and arsonist by looting and burning.
    4. Let lose Pakistan political parties Create a Civil war situation in Pakistan.
    5. Declare Pakistan a unstable country via UN and strip Pakistan off it s nuclear arsenal.. PPP playing right in their hands and trying to involve UN.
    6. Turn Pakistan into a beggar country by limiting its income and use masses for their own benefits..

Our industry and commerce is doing ok, but our agriculture is still in the last century, yet nobody talks about land reforms or modrnization of this sector. The commodity prices after a thirty years of depression are on their way up, its not the first time that we have imported wheat, but now you will have to pay big bucks to do so, so better get your act together, institute agriculture reforms or for that matter land reforms, otherwise its in the interest of the wadera to have a short supplied market.

Why don’t people start eating rice until atta supply improves?

@ I liked that Jay Jay

Last time I had naan/Roti was two weeks ago. These Indians charge too much. Two dollars and fiffty cents for one naan (Imagine that ) and I dont miss a bit.
We cook Italian/ chinese (nothing deep fried) food and fresh vegetables (salad) and fruits. When you cook food for too long, you kill its nutrients.
Its time to change eating habits. Rice gives you carbohydrates and meat/fish and eggs give you protiens.
Wheat/atta gives you starch so as corn(makai) and pottatoes.
    Eat fresh and pollute less.

    Bhion,

Aata Canada main bhee mahngaa hogaya hai. Last time groccery kai liey gaya to pata chal. $8.00 wala bag (10 lbs) abb $14 kaa hogaya hai.

I think this time, MUSH will get 1/4 of the wheat he got last time (instead of the paid F16z).

Reality_Check, I am upset at you. Even when I am writing as you, you fail to mention one obvious solution: Stop making babies, that is.

Also, as I have said before, Pakistanis pay too much attention to rotee, and don’t eat enough greens.

Shahid-un-Nisa, corn is very expensive too, now…all this ethanol business etc.

Of course, our jaahil avaam and psychopaths still burned wheat storages….except, I don’t know if Doctor was in comedy mood that day when he reported this.

Finally, is AT a reincarnation of Muhammad Akram?

We could be seeing worse scenarios than this one if the current trend continues.

Even the State Bank has issued an early warning. See todays Dawn. Further we are going to face a wheat shortage once again besides turmoil in the cotton trade too.

    In simple words, Heads Up..!

  18. Wedge (unregistered) on January 6th, 2008 @ 3:56 pm

The photo simply depicts the helpless pakistanis who (thanks to our establishment and elite class)are now even unable to have a simple “daal-roti”, flour is either in shortage or too costly, if available, and lentil prices are sky high. I am wondering what would they do if these conditions deteriorate further.

  19. Jamal Shamsi (unregistered) on January 6th, 2008 @ 6:13 pm

@Wedge – this — if strong to 5% of report then we shall prepare of anarchry, civilwar, streetfight and arson throughout Pakistan.

@jay its quite apparent that you never went to grocery shopping or you simply haven’t ever been to pakistan.. Rice is currently priced around Rs40~75 .. people simply can’t afford it.. your comment reminds me of similar dumb comment made by one of our past politician ,when roti prices rised steeply during his era he sheepishly remarked.. if people can’t afford to buy roti then why don’t they start eating double roti(bakery bread)

In the whole scenario Imran Khan, Altaf Hussain, Sardar Sherbaz Khan Mazari & Pir Pagar will have the STAKE.

well its all due to “one man show” we are having in this country.

This general doesnt know how to run the govt.
Pakistan is in really deep crisis these days.

IUNKNOWN – give us one name – who can manage better then a disciplined Khurpa.

Our dilemma is that we do not have SINGLE leadership available to replace the person we all detest most.

hamari eik hee raat hai hataoo hataaoo jaoo jaoo, dafa ho gharak hoo, but do we have a replacment?

Kiyani ?? are we ready for it ??

Musharraf’s so called frikkin economic Boom. Seems like Dotcom bubble in 90s.

@RE: I checked your site. You sound more like that idiot Ahmed Qureshi who is a big Mush supporter these days. His articles are more fictitious than Inspector Jamshed Series.

while one corruption king(Asif Bhutto Zardari) returned to Pakistan yesterday another one (Shortkut Aziz) fled from Pakistan and chances are slim that he might ever return to pk.. he is actively seeking a job in an international monetary body

  30. d0ct0r (unregistered) on January 7th, 2008 @ 8:04 pm

according to food minister govt will be importing 150000 ton wheat to ease supply issue.. it’ll cost govt Rs1200 per Maund (37.3kg) whereas they would be supplying it to millers for Rs 440(which is current market rate) somebody should ask these dorks why they exported wheat earlier at $200 per ton and now importing at $550 per ton(whose bright idea waz it..)

  31. Jamal Shamsi (unregistered) on January 7th, 2008 @ 8:18 pm

exporting at 200 per ton getting a catch of 150 per ton in swiss account,

importing at 550 sending again 150 to swiss account.

    it is simple mathematics.

where as – the Lala in lungi to our eastern border neighborhood have clamped the export of agricultural commodities since 1957, – it was relaxed only in 1988 when there was reported surplus bumper crops of 150% access of per year consumption, and till date unless there is confirmation from agriproduct trade body managing the inland crop trading, that crop is in surplus of one years comsumption., NOC for export is not issued.

refer to agri reforms in India, google that.

Lala must be greedy like anybody else but their LUST for Money self controlled.

  32. d0ct0r (unregistered) on January 7th, 2008 @ 8:35 pm

India had also suspended dairy product exports during last season when its prices exorbitantly increased in indian market, despite hue and cry made by local dairy producers govt didn’t relaxed the ban until last month when prices in indian market stabilized..

    Some thing is cooking…

I think it true, that people in Pakistan would soon be facing more anarchy and chaos.

What if Nawaz is killed or Farooq Sattar is killed or Amin Faheem is killed or even if MUSH is killed?

There are people, ready to take advantage of our emotions. Pakistan is an international CHESS BOARD and we are mere by-standers.

People would have to be really frustrated by the govt in order to let invaders have a field day. I think that is, whats going on in the country.

Trust me, I don’t support MUSH at all, he is a looser who brought this to us. We would go into stone age fighting each other rather than any thing else.

    ADNAN,

LOL, those would all be great and much wanted news. What if there was another way so that ‘sanp bhee mar jaey aur lathee bhee naa tootey’?

Like MUSH crushed by a minibus in Karachi, or Farooq Sattar or Altaf Hussain, fell in the dug holes of Karachi and die because of drowning in Chullo bhr Pani …. LOL

Well, I think Altaf would not be murdered, he would just pop-up and die because of over-eating.

so guys at MB, what would countries do to neutralize Pakistan and avoid any backlash?….they just have to turn people of Pakistan against having NUKES and then MUSH would have no problem doing it.

Do you know how many times Aus has raped pakistan. Pak has been raped last 9 times in a row in test matched and the last time pak won a test match against Aus was in 1995.

ya allah yeh kya ho raha hai. Aus hamari g**d maar raha hai aur to moot (masturbation) maar raha hai.
