A Question to Ponder

City Nazim, Mustafa Kamal, raises a very valid question about the recent events following the BB assasination

During an informal chat with journalists at his office on Monday, Kamal questioned why the civil society, lawyers and media are silent about the worst destruction in Karachi’s history – people being burnt alive, looting and plundering and burning of hundreds of vehicles – and asked why those involved were not being pinpointed.

A brief search on the news articles from the period are also devoid of much comments from the aforementioned sections of society, which is also a section that was very vocal about some of the other events in the country. I, for one, agree with his view that

“during certain past incidents, the civil society, media and lawyers created one-sided propaganda, while so-called analysts and intellectuals of the country kept airing their views on Karachi’s situation even though they were unaware as to what had happened here”

The events in Karachi shows that we have useless people at the helm from Musharraf on down.Where were the Police/Army/Rangers?.Shame on MQM administration because they are the Primos Ghoondas. What they did when the Chief Justice came to Karachi we will never forget.
Unless we restore the Judiciary and make it independent the whole Pakistan case becomes a moot point.Nations cant stay alive for very long without the rule of law and justice.
May Allah save us from our own demons and satans like Musharraf.

While i love my boy Mustafa Kamal, but he is off the mark here.

Polic and MQM r solely responsible for what happened. They should have had open season on any person setting fire, but they failed, and failed miserably.

It was all Unprecedented, like natural disasters, NO metropolis is erady for such chaos.

Karachi is an Orphan Girl of a rich person and who ever get an opportunity upon HER attempts to rape HER, be it MQM, PPP, JI, Chief Justice, Rangers, Army, Police, Cantonment Boards, Establishment etc till she is unconcious. Fortunately she is strong enough to come out of coma shrug and stand up again., smiling more charming, more seductive and more strong,

NO Opportunist ever cared for Karachi, but yes some does have done great cosmetic to her attracting more from mountains and deserts, and she is Ready to handle the chaos over her again soon.

No, the valid question is Why MK didn’t raise similar question on 12 May,07 when his militant party hijacked the entire city. MK was silent at that time because he knew that saying a word could send him next work by Altaf’s goons. MK doesn’t sound credible while whining about recent Karachi destruction. How can we complain about Sindhis,Balochis etc when our own Urdu speaking people screwed up entire city in 90s and still doing it.

Y the hell MQM is responsible for the incidents that held on 27th . IF MQM would have come out than again u bloody ppl would blaim MQM like u did in 12th May . (BTW what happened on 12th May was nothing in comparision to 27-30 dec. Innocent ppl died in this incident their assets were burnt . On 12th May it’s was just a political party war. And those f____g politicians and civil society and media kept on shouting on that incident y they are quite on what happened on 27th dec .

what happened on 27th May was done by PPP and goth sindhi ppl, afghani, pushtons too . 1000s of things had been recovered from those goths and from pathan and afghan ppl …

so plz blame and condem those who are responsible

Yes Adnan is right. Karachi is not the city for Mohajirs or Mohajirs are not the citizens of Pakistan. Mohajirs are only welcomed when they want to live like 3rd class citizens like joining for other parties who always kept them on the front line to be be killed, saying nothing after hearing lot of disgrace. They were having that until MQM was formed. After that no and never. Its enough of it now. Every one used Mohajirs for their own purposes but not any more. What Mustafa Kamal is doing in the philosphy of MQM and there are thousands of Mustafa Kamal in MQM. Despite doing lot of work for the other nationalities who are even not MQM voters/suppoters, you still think MQM is wrong. Adnan be realistic, we have had enough , CHAMAN KO JAB BHEE LAHOO KI ZAROORAT PARI, SAB SAY PEHLAY HE GARDAN HAMARI KATI, PHIR BHEE KEHTAY HAIN NADAN YAH AHLE CHAMAN, YEH WATAN HAMARA HAI TUMHARA NAHEE. No its not possible. We have decided to live a respectful life and will continue to live like this.

May be for you respect doesn’t matter, coz i undetstand from where you are coming, but for us it matters and matters the most. ALIGARH Colony walon ka kia kasoor tha, Pakka Killa Walo nay kia kia tha. Agar MQM na hoti baad mai yeh har roz hota, her kissi kay saath hota.

Just want to point out one thing that if MQM would have come on streets after Bhutto’s assasination, then it would have been the worst soio political disaster in history of this country after 16 December 1971. Please dont forget that Nawaz Sharif, who was the first leader to arrive at Rawalpindi General Hospital after the attack, was stopped by Zardari to attend the funeral, reason????. well, it was due to the fact there were slogans against Punjab, all over Larkana.

See, the problemis, that none of the law enforcement agencies are equiped to control the mob activities, neither we have any other way to understand the mob mentality. If MQM would have reliated in Karachi & Hyderabad. Only Allah knows what would have been left of Karachi.

There are certain rogue elements in the administration, who never want this country to rest, just because of their own ilegitimate interests.

May Allah keep us all safe from any further tregedy, ameen.

city government being controlled by MQM literally went into hibernation after 27thDec assassination and they came out of their holes after every thing was over.. the problem with MQM is that its really irritated and annoyed that why isn’t any one not finger pointing towards PPP for all this upheaval .. Some one should tell these dumb ignorant MQM leaders that 12th may was intentionally staged, planned and orchestrated by MQM so naturally it was blamed for that massacre.. whereas 27th dec assassination wasn’t planned and neither was mob attacks planned so naturally they can’t be pinpointed towards any single party.. who knows maybe MQM’s own terrorist must have been having a field day as they would’ve thought that eventually PPP will get blamed for all this…

Dogtor, why dont you go to hell now so we can live in peace. You will be going there anyway so why wait that long.. please leave us alone. Go talk to the people whose brother/father got killed on that day and talked to people who lost everything on that day.
You are the person who would held mqm responsible for you being in Hell..Get a life and seek some medical treatment or get the room reserved in Edhi center

I think we are getting away from the topic of the blog “why the civil society, lawyers and media are silent about the worst destruction in Karachi’s history – people being burnt alive, looting and plundering and burning of hundreds of vehicles – and asked why those involved were not being pinpointed”. Reason very simple. They dont have stake in the city and are being paid for only act against the wishes and choices of the people of Karachi and thats what they are doing so far. Doctor always think before you say. Its better to be quite then to hurt people.

  19. d0ct0r (unregistered) on January 8th, 2008 @ 9:49 pm

even if PPP gets blamed for 27thdec’s events as MQM wishes even then it won’t wash off heinous crimes and massacres committed by MQM it self.. its the case of one terrorist blaming another one thinking that by doing so his own honor and reputation will be restored..

Well, after looking at these separatist type of comments and the current government’s inability to maintain law and order I would suggest that Pakistan is becoming ungovernable than ever. May be we should face the reality that it is a failed state and should be broken up into 4 or 5 smaller states. All ethnic groups like Mahajirs, Sindhi, Punjabi, Balochis and Patan will rest in peace then. I think we should cut our losses and admit that we can not govern, nor be governed. I can’t believe government official who suppose to keep law and order are actually blaming the civilians for not doing the job they were assigned or accepted to do. What a shame! It shouldn’t be about ethnic origins rather strictly about the governance.

  21. AMMAR (unregistered) on January 9th, 2008 @ 1:17 am

Doctor, its not blaming PPP or MQM. This blog is trying to emphasise that why civil society, lawyers and media are silent about the worst destruction in Karachi’s history – people being burnt alive, looting and plundering and burning of hundreds of vehicles – and asked why those involved were not being pinpointed. The question is very simple. But the rhetoric seems biased.

  22. Lawyers_suck_balls (unregistered) on January 9th, 2008 @ 1:19 am

Mustafa Kamal is right. The sellout journalists and lawyers who created a hullabaloo on the pre-text of ‘democracy’ seem to have shut their mouths regarding the damage which PPP and other anti Pakistan goons did to our infrastructure. It seemed like a planned move. How can so many thugs be mobilized just in half an hour?? Were these guys ready to go on a rampage against Pakistan and Pakistanis at the drop of a hat?..seems so.

And now nobody speaks a thing against it. Clearly shoes where the loyalties of the so called ‘civil society’ lie.

  23. Ali (unregistered) on January 9th, 2008 @ 2:45 am

@ MQM or City Gov can’t do anything as Karachi Police in not under control of City Gov, nor Karachi Police have people of karachi they all come to capture the due positions of urdu speaking people of this city they are cowards and ran away and not willing to fire on their Son of soil brothers.

Mustafa Kamal is pointing his finger towards those hypocrats of so called lawyers community and civil society.

Every one knows that 80 % carnage in karachi was done by ETHNIC PATHANS and that is the reason why Ricshaws Mini Busses and Khyber bank escaped burning.
And im once again saying this, Events of 27-30 dec are also chilling lessons to urdu speaking people if they don’t get unite then people coming from other provinces to earn their bread and butter will dominate this city.
And one more thing Mohajirs get arms licenses buy arms so that if some body living in enchroched kachi abadis come to loot then shot them on sight.

  24. d0ct0r (unregistered) on January 9th, 2008 @ 3:00 am

yet again Ali k Chisti is back with his ethnic crap..

“Karachi Police in not under control of City Gov(MQM)”

Karachi Police is being controlled by MQM and its leadership,12th may was its classic example how effectively they control it,while armed terrorists from MQM roamed around in the city police was ordered to stay unarmed and look the other way.. its a typical MQM attitude, when something goes wrong they start looking for excuses and try to shift blame on others, while they never miss an opportunity to take credit if things are running smoothly..

You can always count on Doctor to be Anti MQM, they were not the ones responsible for 27/12, if they had given the order to shoot ppl on that night only many things could have been saved but then you would be sitting here blaming them for carrying out extra judicial killings.

I wouldnt be surprised if we find out doctor was on the streets buring cars along with the crowd. Dude control your hate.

The questions raised by Mansoor are not about who is responsible and who is not for this and that event. That’s a never ending debate.

The question is about how the so called civil society, human rights orgs and the intellectuals have reacted, their preferences and prejuidices, a barometric analysis is required.

  28. Concerned (unregistered) on January 9th, 2008 @ 7:52 pm

If I am not mistaken I asked a similar question in another post, Where is the media and why arent they make a huge deal out of 27/12 like the did for 12/5. Why havent we seen any real finger pointing yet.

PPl like Urooj who claim to be fighting for our rights should answer this. What have you done to protest against what ppl did to our city on 27/12?

Why govt did not ACT on 27th dec? they took the right course of not comming in between the mourning and looting. If Govt would have taken action their could be more BLOODSHED.This is an international conspiracy and we all have to WAKEUP otherwise it will be Too late for MQM or PPi or any other etnic party. their are Media to Blame Too that they cover the parts which they should not have like Slogan against Pakistan/ Now the same thing is repeated again By Bilawal Zardari in England If ELECTIONS are not Fair, Pakistan Might Break? These are the PAWNs of Western World who Want Pakistan Nuclear Arsenal to Capture and Make us Worse then IraQ.General Musharaff is Right when he Tells the Western Press that PAKISTAN COME FIRST then DemocracY or ELection.

Are they sold out people. Go and see the victims, they have almost lost their whole life saving. How they will start their life again. Is it simple. Shame on the sold out people. Kia un ko marna nahee, kia kiss ko hisab nahee daina. Shame on them and pity on our society that we have such shame ful civil society.

I am Not from Karachi , or even from Sindh. But I feel the pain and agony because Karachi and Sindh are part of my beloved country (Pakistan). In this blog I have noticed that everybody is pointing fingers at one another. We are querreling among ourselves. We are unable to identify our enemy who is behind the curtain. Beware that India, Israil, Iran and America are not our friends, and now even Russia and Afghanistan are also busy in cuting our roots (because Pakistan is a muslim nuclear state and have hostile forign policy against our neighbouring countries and is in favour of America).
We are the victims of our forign enemies. They are telling us that you are Mohajir,Sindhi,Punjabi,Balochi and Pathan, you are Shia and Sunni. You speak Urdu, you speak Sindhi, you speak Punjabi etc.
Financial causes are also there. Haves and Haves Not.
This blog started with a stupid question upon the silence of the civil society during the incident of looting, burning and killing etc.
Our enemy want us to querral among ourselves and WE ARE QUERRALING. HA, HA, HA…..
    Jaago Pakistani, Jaago.
Pakistan jal raha hay, hamara ghar jal raha hay.
    Jaago Musalmano, Jaago.
Islam ka qella jal raha hay.
