Word has it that these used cars are being brought in from Dubai. Hybrid vehicles are already used widely in Europe & the US.

Hyrid is good ; even in the UK – although it’s a flop a toyota hyrid will cost you arround 4000 quids and the british govt. is permoting these cars by clamping off ‘road tax’ and ‘allowing them in city centres without the actual consumption charge’
while , Hydrogen Cars are a big hit back in US and it will actually replace hyrid cars…as the new ‘alternate’ .

  7. Barrister Ali.K.Chishti (unregistered) on January 9th, 2008 @ 3:23 am

plus Toyota Hybrid is a ‘Custom Free Item’ in Pakistan – as it comes under ‘alternate fuel cars’ – it could be imported to Pakistan for less then 5 lac PKR.

I think hybrid cars will be quite successful in pakistan just like cng was, n before that diesel. as soon as they have cheap(4-6 lakhs) models, it should take off.

i don’t see any information about Hybrid being tax free / duty free -on FBR site would you please Help US to get that information, i spoke to Dr. Wajid at Customs house as well and he has no such information of hybrid vehicles being duty free

MANY of us would be greatful if you can please support this stance, of Duty / Tax free for Alternate fuel vehicle

BASE price for 1st generation Hybrid Toyota is US$ 30000.00

@Ali if hybrid really is exempt from duty then atleast the local car importers are not aware of it.. otherwise we would have seen too many hybrids piled up here by now

@HITMAN maybe those guys at axact went after their domain and webhost with a scary lawsuit.. they won’t be having much problem if they’ve got backup of everything on their local computers and actually have control of their domain.. they can be safely back online

    @JS,
mate (although I own a criminal law firm) – I had been importing cars from UK to Pakistan since I was a LLB Student back in Birmingham, England.

According to the new law, only three year old car could be imported to Pakistan. So one could import a car (model: 2005 Jan, 2008 Jan) to any dock in Pakistan.

On Alternative Energy – Pakistan Customs had recenlty changed rules thanks to CBR and Envioremental Ministry of GoP which clearly allows ‘CNG Buses Duty Free as long as it is more then a usual 42 seater ; Hybrid cars are a definate duty free car in Pakistan’ .

    @ Doctor,
You are right on that part about the Car Assemblers Lobbey .

PS: Wasay, I could advise everyone to import a Mercedes C180 Classis 2180cc 2007 for only PKR.19,70,000 including custom duty to Pakistan – always a safe choice.

My question remains, do u have any link or evidence in shape of any Bill of entry for HYBRID CAR released under DUTY FREE – SRO reference for HYBRID cars ?? –

Buses, Trucks, Fire tenders, Dumpers, Loaders etc etc fall in utility vehicles and those are exempted from IMPORT DUTY & Sales Tax (Import duty & Sales tax only) other applicable taxes are never waived, –

    – any update here is expected –

I could now confirm, Toyota Hybrid is ‘custom free’ …

  20. Jamal Shamsi (unregistered) on January 10th, 2008 @ 10:44 pm

It’s amazing to hear about the issue of importing hybrids into Pakistan. Is there any way of finding out if they are custom free? In the states the government gives tax breaks to people who purchase hybrids, however, they do not necessarily account for the difference. In essence, the economics behind purchasing a hybrid car in the US make it so that one might not end up saving any money, merely breaking even and being environmentally responsible. TheIssue.com recently did a daily feature on the “Economics of Buying a Hybrid”, which consists of bloggers from around the internet commenting on the day’s most important issue. Check it out.

Hi all, Talking about cars, what do you think of TATA’s NANO?
    Also. what about Air car?
    Dee.

  25. Jamal Shamsi (unregistered) on January 11th, 2008 @ 11:52 am

DEE – talk of what we can get in Pakistan.

  26. Jamal Shamsi (unregistered) on January 11th, 2008 @ 1:56 pm

as per Dr. Wajid- Collector Customs at Customs house , Karachi – this morning at 10.30AM – Hybrid car is dual fuel car electric & petrol engine, therefore import duty is applicable on the CC capacity of the petrol engine.

Barrister – your turn now, or else you sure is Jhoota as Wakeels are.

  27. Dee (unregistered) on January 11th, 2008 @ 10:11 pm

@Jamal Shamsi….> Actually the price of NANO caught my attention and for this reason it will be an excellant choice for an average Pakistani person too. What exactly will be the taxes if there is a chance of buying this from across border?.
    Dee

  28. Jamal Shamsi (unregistered) on January 12th, 2008 @ 12:42 pm

Dee – The Nano price is Ex-factory rs. 100,000.00
applicable state & federal taxes are Extra.

Further the price of air-conditioned version is still to be declared, – Lala ka propaganda is that its EURO standard is only for passenger safety level, not the environmental emissions & road stability., track it on – http://www.quickonlinetips.com/archives/2008/01/tata-nano-indias-cheapest-one-lakh-rupee-car-launched/
