Would you…?

I have it on good authority that a certain person was stopped by a man in a suit asking for directions to an imambargah. The person in question, heading the same way, gave a lift to the guy. Half way though the journey, the man’s coat slipped open and inside the person saw his chest was lined with explosives! The guy, realizing his jig was up, took out a gun and told the person that he was lucky and about to be shaheed and shouldn’t do anything stupid or he’ll just shoot him. Needless to say, the person was terrified.

Upon nearing the imambargah, the guy saw a number of security personnel at the entrance, panicked and told the person to take the car round back. There, seeing even more police presence, the guy ditched the car, with the comment “you’re very unlucky, u lost your chance at shahadat”. The person, terrified out of his wits, drove back home.

This brings me to an interesting question, what would you do in such a situation? This person had credible information about a real live potential suicide bomber, yet didn’t alert the authorities instead chose to go back home, leaving hundreds of others in the imambargah at risk. Take the poll and let us know what would you do in such a situation?

P.S. This incident took place today. So far, the bomber hasn’t struck. I pray for all our shia brothers and sisters, who are at their majlises to be safe tonight. On another note, Upto 5 terrorists armed with what were called ‘cyanide cans’ including two suicide bombers were caught. These guys were planning on mixing the cyanide with the drinks offered at various stalls. Cyanide kills within seconds of coming in contact with the human body.

why do i have a feeling that you’re also making up stories just like interior ministry’s clown Brig Cheema’s interception of purported phone call between “Molvi sahib” and “ameer sahib”

Yes with a pity that people dont feel secure to tell the police what they saw. You never know who will save you after that. I pray to Allah that every one remain safe and the five guys apprehended today also include the one whom your friend saw.

@doctor: the fact that you do or dont believe me is of no consequence to me. You may choose to call me a liar but that will not change what i believe or what i have written here, and i will not be taking a fight with you on whether you believe it or not. If you dont, take a hike!

Oh a load of bullocks!!! How can people like you allowed to spread rumors and sensational stories like these on metroblogg? You are an idiot who can write English. Mansoor, please go get a life.
Yeah there is some news about guys mixing cyanide in some sabeels but I really enjoyed when you explain with repressed excitement that “cynaide will kill people in seconds”. Oh what is going to happen to us? Are we all going to die tomorrow? YEah lest run and hide. Become as insecure as we can be. May be someone mix cyanide in rain and then it will rain in Karachi and all and everyone will just die and rot!!! Oh lets run, and hide….

What is this crap ? .. I thought of metroblog as a proper place to read happenings in karachi , and made it a daily basis hit on my bookmarks. Not some sort of whiteboard that anyone can come and write anything he wants . this goes out to all the authors, especially the one who wrote this story.
I am a shia, and a proud one for that matter. Please get your act right authors and make sure nothing like this happens again, and incidently, even if it does then make sure its taken care of before it becomes a “topic of the day”. If you’re posting a story then provide links and proof so that its authentic. I would like to point out MB , one of your authors who takes a considerable amount of care in this regard.

    Authors,

    Please advice.

What’s so fussy about this blog people, I don’t see any reason why you folks make a big deal of it. Even if the story is not true, there is no doubt that some thing like that may happen in reality, specially in current situation. As far as polls are concern, I think its an appreciable effort by Mansoor that will give us an opportunty to think of how we respond if we caught in such situation. Also the polls result shows our confidence level in authorities & in our selves. Good job Mansoor…keep it up!

@All Shia Fellows, Althought all the majalis n stuff might be very important & essential in your faith but there is a thing called “Maslehat Pasandee”, that means you have to act responsibly n cautiosly according to the criticality of situation. I think all the Ulema leaders should preach their followers to stay low n do their stuff in their homes to avoid any mishap & I am pretty sure that it wont reduce the blessings a bit as the All KNOWING knows whats in our heart & sincerity of our intentions.

I doubt a terrorist group will stupid enough to leave their execution plans dependent on availability of lift to reach the target. I am amazed that a terrorist will be hitchhiking his way to an Imam-Barra, and would be even ignorant of the directions to the place.

The success of terrorists (they have many during last few weeks) depends on immaculate planning including the organization of transport (including back-ups)and a number of rehearsals before hand and familarity with the surroundings of the target building, including the expected security measures.

Although a hoax, a good story nonetheless.

Any reponsible citizen, of any political hue and leaning, will report any information about a terrorist act to authorities. There is no other way.

    JAYJAY –

90’s was the era when a poltical party used family cars, ambulances and Janaza buses to transport the arms – consider / imagine a sedan car with a couple and 2 children stopped at redlight, shortly before light turns green a man walks close and sit down in rear with the kids what choices they have?? —

whatever methodology you said is about the people who are struggling for a cause, and they maintain a level of morality of not targetting women n children., go throw news acrhives and see how many have blown up where women & children are gathered and get back here. it is not even happening in Haifa, Lebanon, Qandahar, Basra, Baghdad, Karbala, Nasiraya.

Targetting places with women & children Thats sign of PURE INSANITY as if tarantulla burning Stuck in someone’s A zz

whereas we as nation are rudderless, direction less baysharams and bayghyrats, so is the terrorist they are from among the masses, they have not come space.

HAM KISS GALI JA RAHAY HAIN !

This is a crap topic. The author presents us with hypothetical situations and then expects answers from the readers. Might as well try Disneyland then!

If it makes anyone happy, then I would fly in like Superman or drive in with my Bat mobile and save the day.

Sheesh what a bloody waste of time.

  16. Haris (unregistered) on January 20th, 2008 @ 12:41 pm

I agree with “JayJay”. To think that someone would strap explosives to their body and not know where they’re supposed to blow themselves up is totally idiotic. I’m not saying you’re lying. The contrary, rather. In all probability, your source is messed up.

Such sensationalized stories should not be posted on Metblogs. Just think before posting: what’s the benefit? If none, ditch it.

  17. Adnan Siddiqi (unregistered) on January 20th, 2008 @ 2:10 pm

See mansoor I didn’t even say a word:-)

the way author made this post, it gives impression that most of terrorist actvities are actually being planned in different Army bases and since the author belongs to an Army family thus he shares an *internal* with public.

Recently it came in news that an ex-Army person was found guilty in recent terrorist activities in Pakistan. It’s time to getrid of filth in Pakistan in the form of Army and bring some honest people who could actually GUARD our borders rather screwing them up.

  18. mansoor (unregistered) on January 20th, 2008 @ 3:12 pm

all of those who believe i am sensationalizing, its your choice to believe what you want to believe.

This story was reported back to me by a couple of sources hence it’s put up here.

However, the thrust of the story was, how would karachi respond to such a situation. And you’ve all confirmed my worst suspicions. Many would just sit around and say ‘bura bhala’ to people who would make an effort. A sad state of affairs indeed.

JayJay: you mentioned “a responsible citizen”, given even the response to this blog, how many ‘responsible’ citizens do you think are even LEFT in our fair city?

  19. mansoor (unregistered) on January 20th, 2008 @ 4:09 pm

there’s hope yet. atleast no one has YET voted that they will not inform the authorities! however, many (close to 50%) voted they’ll do so anonymously. that’s pretty good all things considered.

There’s still a silent majority (~13%) which says it wont do anything because of the trouble, and those are the people that bother me. The ‘not so responsible’ citizens of this city… lets hope and pray they are never in a situation where they have information that could save people’s lives.

What do you mean by “…Shia brothers and sisters in the majlis…”???

Anyone’s life, irrespective of being a Shia or a Sunni, or even a Hindu or a Christian, can be in danger when the suicide bomber is on the loose. In any case, this story to me looks like a perfect Brid. story which is told to us via PTV.

Let us get some details from credible sources. Mansoor fails to attract my senses.

  21. Darthvader (unregistered) on January 20th, 2008 @ 4:42 pm

@Mansoor: i can only assume you , being a responsible person with a keen sense of civic duty , alerted the proper authorities before making this post. thank you for doing that .

what is important? the topic or it actually happening ? and its prevention?

Or How would any of us react if caught in such situation,?

keep cars locked, keep internal light functional so when u open the door before stepping-in it is vacant.

once on road, lock the door( s )

do not leave car unlocked even in your house porch., Outside try and park in well lit area check all window glasses before entering your car.

It would be pathetic to see people not informing the authorities in such a sitution – and it’d be equally pathetic if this was not brought to their attention before being posted here. Those guys (the authorities) did a fantastic job on the 9th and 10th (at least here in Karachi), yet no one is talking about it?! I can only hope they continue to protect ALL congregations in the country with such vigour and resolve. Amen!
