Something like this . . . .

MMB posted this story about Mumbai Marathon. I wish something similar for KHI as well. Karachi is full of lack of activities especially for women. Whatever there is, its not enough for 15 million souls & some good options are too expensive for common man. In general people have very few options: Eating out, going to the same seaside (even that’s in danger in future), nearby park which present more an Afghan-war look than a refresher, are just few options. Cinema seems a DEAD idea. Theater is lost & so are the local sport events. Development is not just about piling up concrete blocks, or is it ?

Karachiites are desperate for such opportunities, trust me. They have hardly a chance to enjoy their life beside their home or the occasional visit to/by aunt/cousins etc. I recently saw few parks (Gulshan & Jail Chowrangi) renovated & the neighborhood immediately flocked with their children. This can prove quite effective in helping building city image. How about an annual (government level + private partnership) ARTs competition. A big festival for entertainment industry or something similar to what Mumbai did ? [Image A. Hamza]

Did u read in DAWN editorial today that they sold the ‘common’ beach today. The above picture will be a thing of past in few years.

I do remember many years or rather eons ago, that even Karachi had Marathons. In some which I had the pleasure of participating. However sadly with the passage of time, rules, laws, morals, security and minds, all have deteriorated and disintegrated.

Now to hold something on those lines in Karachi is unthinkable.

Karachites, now days have no idea where the boundaries of decency lie. Where liberty and freedom ends and intrusion begins. What is their business and what is none of their business.

The above makes wishful thinking though MB

This is the probelm with our people that they believe the gossips. Even the top news papers publish things without investigating. The best link of the Karachi Water Front, which is really a harbinger of development for the days to come is given below:
Please show some maturity before maligning things.

“It is believed that billions can be made ‘legally’ by stretching the law while remaining within it.”

magnitude of white collar corruption by MQM’s top brass will put to shame even the likes of mega plunderer like Asif Zardari

Doctor you should tell who exactly you are. Punjabi mai kehtay hain “KAMMI KAMMI HE HOTA HAI”, you seem to be from that breed.

mb: the theater and events are still alive *if* people are willing to attend them. I’ve attended quite a few events in karachi over the last year, but they required you to take time out. which is where most people lack IMO.

and karachi did have marathons as recent as last year, for various reasons from conserving the environment to raising awareness of cancer.

which karachi are you living in my dear boy?

@AMMAR yea i should tell you who i am so that you gun me down just like what MQM is famous for, brutally gunning down who ever is vocal against them..hats off for these media organizations for exposing these white collar crimes despite the harsh conditions and bullet filled envelopes that they’ve been getting…

Yes hats off to those biased media and civil society organizations who kept silent during the looting and plundering from 27th December 2007 for atleast three days. I guess you are referring about them. Have courage to say truth doctor and the truth is that Karachi has been treated like an orphan for many decades. Now when lot of development is going on, people like you who have vested interests will always oppose it. By the way what type of doctor you are. Its just like the designations of professor whom many black magic experts have adopted. Is your doctor qualification like improvement in that black magic. IMPROVED VERSION OF PROFESSOR.

Doesn’t Lahore have a marathon? We can get those guys to help us organize one down here as well.

Doctor have the courage to speak the truth which is obvious in Karachi. So many constructions moving on and on, on and on and will continue. Why it doest suit you is that now things are transparent and the media is able to highlight them. Belive me you will never get any thing out of it. Karachittes have selected their own course and there is no moving back ward.Love Karachi and Own Karachi..
