Why should you have a mule car [Lifehack]

First, let me describe a mule car. It is necessarily a ‘redundant’ or “2nd car” as we call it, used in tasks with higher wear and tear rates. Some people also like to call it a ‘grocery car’ or to save their new or 1st hand car in a better condition.

So, why do u need a mule car in the first place?

is it worth the extra investment, extra maintenance / fuel costs? Here are some answers why it might be feasible for some people.

With the growing number of family members, many households opt for a 2nd car. This car usually caters to tasks / errands common to most members of the family / friends, and is used extensively, particularly for ‘dirty’ jobs of getting into traffic congested areas / groceries / commuting to office etc.

Keeping a mule car helps in sharing costs of fuel and maintenance. A mule car doesnot have to be in tip-top condition. What is mainly required of a mule car is to have reliability.

Typically, a mule car is a cheap, old car (approx 10 yrs) and efficient and optimal in fuel economy and maintenance.

Body condition does not add points as it encounters the hardest of the bashings of the roads during its daily commute; dents and scratches are inevitable and donot break any hearts.

The best way to employ a mule car is to use it as a common transport for its maximum seating capacity, for commuting to and from office for example, or for regularly scheduled tasks like Sunday Bazaar. It is not advisable to use the mule car as an evening drive, or when only 1 person is to commute.

…..coming up: How to get the best out of your mule car.

People in Pakistan are dying to get flour, electricity is scarce, commodity prices are hiking exponentially, and you talk of second cars :) WOW!!!!

  2. Talha (unregistered) on January 24th, 2008 @ 2:06 pm

Second hand cars seem like a pretty good option…..especially since Karachi has an overflow of cars……buying more will just intensify the traffic situations.

hehehe… Farrukh said it right – GADHA GARI – as petrol n CNG will be at same price before the new (s)elected government walks in and cabinet is formed.

So you are right we shall get Mule cars soonest !

Life is all about choices and alternatives. Mule car will also work when the first can is out of order. You can then use that as the first car. Having second car can also save lot of fuel and as mentioned by other colleagues, being a second hand car, it will need less maintenance.

“being a second hand car, it will need less maintenance.”

On the contrary, second hand cars require more maintenance than new ones. Normally when you buy a first-hand car, you do not have to worry about maintenance for atleast a year.

Here is what Balma (PBUH) thinks:
Pakistanis are becoming bigger cheaters by the minute.
So, the quality of cars being made in Pakistan is going down, every year, year after year.
So, yesssss, maintaining an older car may be cheaper in Pakistan than a new one. Only in Pakistan, as they say…. bunch of crooks, and bunch of idiots.

    @ Balma (PBUY)
So what is the solution your hindness have for this problem. How would you change the psyche of a common man to become a fair in his/her dealings?

  17. Ali K (unregistered) on January 25th, 2008 @ 2:22 am

    @BITTERTRUTH and Kashif –

we can’t talk about flour all day you know. I think those topics were given enough coverage. I personally enjoy reading the other random posts at KMB. And ofcourse, the comments by BALMA..haha.

  18. alam (unregistered) on January 25th, 2008 @ 3:12 am

    @ShahidnUSA

I know BALMA (PBUH) will list inbreeding and population explosion as the main reasons.

While I gree, but let me add more to it:

    1. Abolish arranged marriages
    2. Force women out of home into workplace
    3. No religion in govt ot constitution
    4. No autocracy
    5. Minimum defence budget, more expenditure on human development areas

These r the minimum starting steps

  19. ShahidnUSA (unregistered) on January 25th, 2008 @ 6:40 am

@ Thank you for your input, you came up with good (profound)steps.
For me,you and few others, these steps (with slight ammendments) are easily adaptable.
But this would be a hard sell to the hard head majority. We have to go easy on them. They are already killing themselves and killing others in the process.

How would you convince them ,that some basic social changes are in dire need to save them, country, and their children.
GOD HELP THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES

Alam Ara and shaid-un-Nissa, thanks for sending salams my way, dear sahaabiaat.

I think desi mind (esp desi muslim mind) is full of deception and cheating. We are fitnaas. We are mareez (mareed for fanatics).

    solution? al-qariat-ul-mulqariat?
I guess, Alam-Ara has good ideas, but I am getting old, I am losing hope, I will be dead before 30% of people in Pakistan can read… I mean actually able to read, not just recognize pattern for Muhammad Khan….oof, here I go again. Don’t get me started girls.

Oh, I just remembered a conversation I had with some fellow students long ago at a college in Patel Para, Karachi. This all-wise, smart ass type student had transferred from Ooti or Mysore, I never found out how he ended up going to school there, may be he was ABCD or something, but anyway, he said something like – no one in the US works to serve his or her nation. Everyone works for themselves, to improve their lives and so on. HE thought that this idea of Pakistan kee khidmat keejyae was too silly.
I now believe that the kid was quite right. He was young, but baatai’n kartaa thaa baRee baRee:-)
I think this is one way of fixing things in Pakistan. Fix yourself. Work to make money for yourself and improve your life. If one does this using reasonable means, whole society will benefit. Sorry guys for sounding like Edhi. I just can’t talk intelligently. I am no intellechool.

You have not seen much in Pakistan, let the new Govt come in on 18th , you will be surprised to see the Atta, Tael , Ghee and gas Sky rocketing. As the price is sky rocketing every where in the world, it has to be free ECONOMY, no govt subsidiary or price rebate let people , businessman, farmer decide how to sell things.

Gentlemen, by all means do discuss the pros and cons of the so called ‘mule car’. However, do not get carried away with this discussion so much that we forget about our other major problems and thus end up with time tested mules only.

  27. d0ct0r (unregistered) on January 26th, 2008 @ 12:03 am

mush’s PM is delaying the imminent increase in oil/petrol prices.. they don’t want to get blamed for it so they’re delaying ,so that next govt will have to take the bitter pill down their throat by taking an unpopular decision..

  28. d0ct0r (unregistered) on January 26th, 2008 @ 12:30 am

and whenever that’ll happen then many might consider buying a real mule for their daily commute

    Alam-ara :)

i made a video of donkey cart racing in Karachi and showed it at my school in US in 80s’ – and that year I managed to attract National Geographic for such event which they covered in a 2 page article in Aug 1993 as traditional race of African Asians of balochistan :)

i still have great passion for that event, – soon I will upload on flicker few pictures of a Million & half Rupee Mule car – The Mule is been imported from Austrailia, (costed 1.2 million after getting all papers done by Health ministry) – He charge Rs. 20,000 per mating with female mule and on condition of having 1st child for his herd of mules. the Owner is proud to have shesham ke lakri wali 4 seater carriage which have a driver seat seperate. radial tubeless 17 inch alloy wheels fully carpeted seating and Cow Hide canopy – He rides with Driver – daily to Fishery at 6 am and goes back to his house in Liyari at 10.30 am- where as his SONs drive Audi A 4 and BMW 7 series.

smile – it can be verified by anyone by visiting Karachi Fish Harbor early morning.,
