[1] Yesterday, to celebrate and honor the lively of sprit of Gulgee’s [2] art and to pay condolences to his family, artists and art lovers gathered together for an evening [3] organized by Nukta.Art [4] and “The Second Floor [5]” at T2F. Among the speakers were Mohammad Ali Siddiqui, Naz Ikramullah and Niilofur Farrukh. Also Present at the venue were Gulgee’s son Amin and two of Gulgee’s sisters who have yet to grasp the fact that the loving couple, the lively Gulgee and his wife Zarrin are no more amongst them.
This was the first time I had seen Amin Gulgee after the tragic murder of his father, the man has truly forgotten to smile, the grieve has taken over his whole personality. Since the tragic incident I had thought several times to visit him but realizing that I am not capable in any way to ease his pain I had winced back, I couldn’t gather the courage to face Amin, and today when I met him, I was at complete lost of words, there simply was nothing I could possibly say or do to make him feel better, I could but only offer him a hug.
[6]The event started with a slide show of Gulgee’s work, the energy preserved in the flow of his strokes and his lively nature in the colors, His love for art, for colors as vibrant as the man himself was. There was magic in the movement of his strokes, the swirls of colors, the strokes full of energy warmth, there was life in those canvases. The realization that the murder was not of a common man but a master in his field was a loss for the whole nation to morn, was too great to speak of. No words can ever possibly describe this magnificent master of art.
The evening continued with personal stories of the couple, their love for each other, there partnership in life which continued till their end, and him as an artist and Zarrin to support him, his humble nature, his enthusiasm for art, a man who was never too shy to teach anyone who wanted to learn, never too proud, a true legend and a dear institution in his capacity.
[7]Such a beautiful man today is no more with us. Who could have stolen life from such a loving couple, such a beautiful man, such a lovely person who had only but love and beauty to give to all? Who could have been so cold hearted, so brutal, so a ugly a devil? Who knows..
