http://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/images/2008/02/na-239-thumb.jpgIn the run up to the upcoming elections which is barely a few days away. It would be interesting to start a short series of posts where we could cover the various National Assembly seats in Karachi starting off with the NA-239 going down the list to NA-258. In this series we will simply short list the prominent candidates contesting for elections while also take a quick glance at what transpired from the the 2002 elections.

Wrapping up the post we leave an option for the metroblog reader to cast your own vote, if you were going out to vote for one of these candidates who would you vote for. It may mean little but it can only help us all gauge the general trend lets see if our trends are anywhere close to the sentiments of the local population.

I’d like to know is Haleem Siddiqi fighting from two seats – this one (NA-239) and also the one in Clifton (NA-250) as he is appearing in both lists ?

Looks like MQM is winning but err, I doubt that it is actually going to happen. What place is it exactly? Where is it in Karachi? PPP is most likely to win from villages in Karachi where uneduated bhutto lovers still exist.

Its a good post, something different. As far as trending is concerned I doubt any polls here will reflect the general trend. The realm of the blogger is a very small subset of a particular section of the population, the sample size will not be diverse enough to catch the trend, but lets see …..

    At second glance this looks interesting;

The winner last time round MMA ‘s Qari Gul Rehman with 22164 votes and the second position to Mr.Iftikhar Hussain (PPPP) – 21461. In present circumstances it could be safely assumed that MMA will find it hard to hold onto this one. The next favourite would be PPPP but look Mr. Iftikhar wis running as an independent, very interesting. It can become a four way race between PPP, MMA, INDP and MQM with PPP as fovorite. Also interestingly Mr. Piracha (PTI) last elections and PML(Q) now.

Haleem siddiqui has nomination papers in two constituencies, NA239 & NA250 but he is only actively comgaigning in NA250.
This BLOG is interesting, have some coverage of MOST OF THE constituencies Teeth Maestro.
Survey looks good but only in some western country. People who will participate here will hardly go to cast their votes and hence the poll will not be so useful.

    Look whos posting here.

The same people who have problem with Teetho’s blogs are the first one to post.

Teetho, they are addicted to your writings. I’m sure they would come back with different names, but they are addicted to your posts.

AFLATOON I dont need to change my nicks to comment on TEETHO’s blog. True I tend to disagree with him most of the time, but have no no problem acknowledging, what I think is a good effort. Same is the case with MB, I disagree with him a lot but I also respect his opinions and insight.

It all boils down to this, when we discuss issues in a civilized manner, we tend to change as we acquire more insight & understanding on how others think. This applies to all of us no matter how righteous we project ourselves to be.

The key is, expressing ourselves with the strength of our arguments with an ear open to what other party is saying. If two sides present their arguments from even very extreme positions, by the end of the day there is in-advertantly a shift on both sides albeit barely noticeable. On the contrary rigidity and single minded opposition leads nowhere and its a waste of time.

Keep the opposition tough but dont let them create hurdles, when it comes to the development of the city/country (common cause).

    Teetho good topic.

It is not necessary that every acredited blogger is RIGHT – we all have right to our opinions.

Staying in limits and civilised is much better then being nerd.

I believe this time Mujhaid Baloch will lead

mqm got 16 % of all votes casted on this seat.. mqm might have to stage a 12may type event to get this one…

NA-239 is a traditional seat of PPP and in 2002 general elections, MMA, the alliance of six religo-political parites, won it only due to US aggression on Afghanistan in which the inhabitants of the NA-239 gave votes to MMA on teh basis of religous emtotions.
Now this seat will be easily won by PPP’s candidate. As a journalist, i surveyed the area and the majority of people of the area are Baloch, Sindhi, Pukhtoons and Bengali which will not give vote to MQM because to its facist way of politics.
