BRTS

There are plans that there would be a Bus Rapid Transit System in Karachi soon:

The BRTS will resemble a network of railway stations because instead of bus stops, there will be station-like compounds. Like railway tracks, no other transport will be allowed to ply on the track of buses under the BRTS.

Daily Time has details on the ADB Karachi Mega City Sustainable Development Project (KMCSDP) under which this BRTS project will be deployed in various phases. According to the details, ‘high pressure’ CNG stations will fill buses gas requirements in ‘2 minutes’.

The quarter billion dollar project will have three tranches with the following corridors details:

Tranche 1:
Surjani Town – Mazar-e-Quaid (20 km)

Mazar-e-Quaid – Karachi University (14 km)

Orangi Town Extension (4km)

Tranche 2:

Nagan Chowragi – Landi (21.5 km)

Rashidabad Extension

UP More Extensio (2.7 km)

Tranche 3:

Gulistan-e-Juaher – University Road (4.7 km)

KDA – Metropole via SF (10.4 km)

Shahrah-e-Quaideen (2.3 km)

Koragi – Shahrah-e-Faisal (18 km)

Defense (4.8 km)

    i hope it gets implemented.

just one question? y don’t they start trams instead.

660 Million USD almost 40 Billion PKR for this. it would be costing even more then the almost 400 KM Lahore – Islamabad motorway. and this is much shorter.

we should not start jumping with joy at this report as if the money is not well sepnt we would in any case have 660 Million USD of extra debt!!

Do not forget to keep 10% for the er…Mr. 10%.

doesn’t matter if it’s Mr.10% or MQM who takes a cut.

whoever is in power will have his share.

i think they should legislate and make 10% the legal going rate for kick backs at the same time making sure that the project is delivered on time.!

THIS PROJECT IS A STEP TOWARDS A BETTER PAKISTAN.
I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE W/ PREVIOUS COMMENTS ON HOW BETTER PLANNING COULD BRING BETTER RESULTS. BEING A CIVIL ENGINEER MYSELF, TRANSIT SYSTEM BASED ON BUSES DOESN’T MAKE MUCH SENSE. A TRAIN SYSTEM WOULD WORK MUCH BETTER AND WOULD BE EFFECTIVE FINANCIALLY AND ENVIRONMENTALLY. I DO NOT CARE WHO KEEPS THE 10%, AS LONG AS THE PROJECT IS DELIVERED WITH SAFETY MEASURES NECESSARY.

@SHAFQAT DADA…just one thing, why is your whole message in caps ?

As for the bus system, if it works, it’ll be great. Would this reduce the normal mini buses on the street? Cause those things are horrible..polute like crazy, and they drive like crazy

    Now we are talking!
I have been saying this that they need to run rail cars in the city on special tracks. One rail car after the other like trains every 5 or 10 minutes.
Underground trians are not a good idea specially where people have suicidal tendancies.

660 Million USD is a huge amount.

we alreay have the rail network of the old system which connects almost all the routes mentioned in the new project.

y not just put new track and start that system. it may take less then half the time and much less then half the cost.

what will happen when many busses are burnt in the next roits?

I am always delighted to see plans of Mass Transit and Rapid Bus Sevice which is a must for any Mega City. Karachi will never have its Traffic Problems solved until we have these systems in place. I wish very best wishes for such plan. Hope that we will have them soon on ground. Every Mega City in the world has these systems. Go and see DC and the underground rail system is never visible, you can just feel it with the DHAR DHAR of the train but yet making a huge differnce. Hope to have traffic sense in the people as well. Small streets and singles every where which are hall marks of the cities but not much traffic jam. Again another wish to come true. Important point is that we are improving. MASHALLAH SAY

The project is definitely excellent, and no matter how long it takes, it would be of great benefit to the Karachites. One thing just bothers me is that why don’t they think of Lyari in such development prohjects, isnt it a part of Karachi,Sind,Pakistan?
