Dangerous Baluch Colony Crossing
This Baluch Colony pedestrian crossing on Shahrai Faisal is very dangerous for all pedestrians. A few years back two pedestrian bridges were constructed to cater to this crossing but were instead positioned a few hundred feet on either side of this bridge, almost not catering to this specific pedestrian traffic. Its been observed that most of the people choose to brave the mad rush across weaving their way between the fast paced oncoming traffic.
Observe the two gentlemen trying to cross the road, the first one (in white) attempted to cross initially but hung back trying to time is next sprint as soon as my vehicle crossed him, while the other guy (in shalwar kameez) seems to be taking a stroll oblivious to the oncoming traffic as if to say ‘you move out of my way‘, I sure did.
I also note that this bridge/crossing is located on a curve which almost blinds the pedestrians on the median (as well as the oncoming cars) to the danger lurking ahead. All said I dread that this is a booby trap made for accidents. Please be watchful and slow down your car as you approach this crossing
DISCLAIMER: For the KMB critics, I do not mean to be offending the pedestrian traffic but try to raise a valid issue facing the people of Karachi
Good post! Happens to me every freaking morning! You cannot believe people can dare cross this road with such a fast flowing traffic. And this isn’t the only spot, you’ll witness similar situations all over Sharah-e-Faisal. I don’t know what will it take for people to use the pedestrian bridges. Maybe placing even bigger grills in between the two roads will do, but people find a way. A friend of mine proudly boasted of jumping over the grill under the Shah Faisal colony bridge, and I tell you thats no easy grill to jump!
u didnt seem to hav slowed down urself, doc? :-)
i think this is staged….
how else would u explain casually filming your drive back home….
and dont get me started on the hazards of using a mobile phone while driving and that too on one of the paciest roads in karachi….
Nation needs KNEE Replacement.Like turbo Knees.
@Atif – I definitely did slow down but yes admittedly did not come to a crawl – I have been watchful of this menacing issue since long. I dread the day God forbid a confusion were to arise.
@Broke – staged (lol) where do you come up with such brilliance
Not a psycological expert but when a person takes a risk crossing or "j walk". Either because that person is high, mentally disturbed or want to feel SUPERIOR on the street.
Broke,
You know it was not staged, this is a very common sight in karachi ie., j walking.
What was more dangerous here – the people crossing the road or you filming them cross while you were driving? :P
and the driver is no better either. He sped up after spotting a crosser to take his best shot.
Oh please – Teeth, is talking about an important and relevant issue concerning Karachi (heck all of Pakistan these J Walkers) and you all have nothing better then criticizing the effort – grow up
For once try to stick to the ‘issue at hand’
@Mantissa – well thats true, Ill accept that, thank god nothing went haywire. But I share with you the issue which has bugged me since long and thought it was time to highlight it.
@shahid.. I quote the same comment I gave to ^broke^ ‘where do you come up with such brilliance‘ ;) – Sped up!!! – I ain’t nuts ;)
Poor guy had to write a disclaimer
due extensive amount of criticism
don’t worry Dr.shahab I am with you
somebody should fine this guy for using camera while driving and endangering other peoples lives
Once a Pakistani bought a dog at a bargain price. While playing with the dog, this guy discovered that when he threw a stick in a water pond and asked the dog to bring it back. The dog walked on the surface of water and brought back the stick. The owner was so excited, he decided to show this to his friend (another countryman)
He throws the stick and yells the dog to go get the stick. The dog, as usual, walks on the surface of water and brings back the stick. Excitingly the guy asks his friend "Did you see, this dog can walk on the surface of water". His friend, without any excited at all, said "jack a$$ this dog doesn’t even know how to swim in water"
Either people are jealous of Teethos work or they are simply ignorants.
Good work teetho! I can see you growing into a journalist more than a doctor. I bet your parents had you become a dentist :) or did you realize your passion after you chose to be a dentist?
yeah i dont know why ppl dont know pedestrian bridges
it was there in front of mashriq center but i have seen very few ppl using that. Most of them used to cross beneath the bridge. They have removed it from there now
I dont know wat will u loose if u reach ur destination 2 mins late

This problem could easily be solved if the bus stops under the bridge are moved away. there is a bus stop at awami markaz and at dunkin donuts wala signal aswell…wich in my opinion are sufficient enuff…..the shadow under the bridge makes it particularly more dangerous for the pedestrians wen u drive in from the sun!….
people actually are too lazy to step on those pedestrain bridges. They’ll be more useful if equipped with escalators.
@Sarfaraz Ahmed Soomro: I doubt it. We are a truly lazy nation. If we had a free chaiwala at the top and perhaps free samosas then yea, perhaps.
@teeth maestro
did u make this video while driving??
if yes, then whats the difference btw u and those people@teeth maestro

as far as i can tell the person who is driving has shot this video.
it’s like one person smoking and telling others of its hazards.
totally irresponsible of you. u endangered their life, which were endangered enough already due to their own actions, and yours
