Snoopy: The end of a legacy
I was driving down Tariq Road last night, and noticed that Snoopy has been closed down and reopened as Pizza Next. This marks the end of a legacy.
For those of you who do not know, Snoopy was a very popular ice cream parlor in the ’90s, with numerous branches across the city. I remember one of the most popular ones used to be the one at NIPA, which made way for KFC. With the advent of foreign fast food chains, coffe houses, etc, the popularity of Snoopy’s probably started to wane quite a bit.
Finally, the last Snoopy parlor in the city has gone, without a trace. How many of you will remember it fondly? Let’s hear your thoughts. comments, and any special memories you have.
Survival of the fittest. Hot spot is todays Snoopy, I guess. But I remember going to Snoopy with my parents, but I have never seen families as such (kids coming with parents) at hot spot. Is that legacy fading as well ?
Have had some really pleasant memories at Snoopy on TR, sad that its no more.
Oh yes! It does bring back old memories……
I once pranked a friend in the early days of IRC and lured him into a *blind* date at this very snoopy! Imagine his face when he saw his entire class but the girl!
Sad to see the last one go down!
Oh I loved their pineapple sundae, so miss it :(
Actually not that much :p
HOTSPOT stands not even close to what Snoopy was. Bye bye old friend. I guess they didn’t try to improve their services and they never put up any agressive advertising compaign. That makes a lot of difference. Still, we are gona miss it!
One of the oldes ice cream places would be Baloch Ice Cream, fancy one anybody?
Oh man.. snoopy surely was a legacy … remember going there quite regularly for their chocolate topped cones and bars.. it was A HOT SPOT AT THAT TIME. and i m talking of the NIPA ONE.. i think in 90’s it was the lone party type eating place. others were so dull.. except defence and clifton’s… i will miss it and but not like losing diana or Nazia Hasan.. cuz it vanished slowly and then the replacement were equally good or even better.. especially in the case of KFC as that was actually the first KFC in Karachi, then came the ALaddin wala, that also got closed… and hey just got the menu of pizza next .. my office is very near to tariq road and will surely order a few
Snoopy, well i remembed it fondly – but then during those time we all had time to actually go and eat out at the ice cream parlours – now the fad has tiled towards the coffee houses.
for newbees, Snoopy was co-owned by Jhangir Khan (Squah Champ) and Javed Miadad – so, maybe Javed Bhai has ventured into ‘new business’ (thanks to the D-Company) and Jhangir Khan old business that would be ‘custom-fying’ whatever that is…
nice post , anyway!
ya it is sad to see an old timer go fade away into the oblivion and at a time when it was needed the most…..me and the kids really loved it….!god bless the owners and the runners….!
I sure will remember it! I still remember their Caramel Crunch ice-cream.
My parents used to take me there when I was in school. Oh, the good old memories :)
i used to love snoopy’s soft cone ice creams—the one with a double whammy of chocolate and vanilla. snoopy’s was the only place with good soft cones…dunno where i’ll get one now :(
As i see it pretty soon this place KMB will also be a legacy…. where are all the authors?????
If I am not wrong, snoopy was joint venture of Miandad and Jahangir Khan?
AFAIK, the first branch of Snoopy was at Pehli Chowrangi Nazimabad just infront of SirSyed Girls college which had become famous dating spot at that time. Later snoopy was not never opened during college hours.
I guess everyone here is too young to remember Baskins? My family actually owned in partnership with a couple of family friends. We had branches in Clifton (now Hush Puppies), KDA (right off Karsaz) and Gulshan (near the KFC I think).
lol @adnan.. nice facts
Snoopy was really good in the past but they vanished silently.
I wonder if any one has gone to ice village? They are one of the best in ice cream business today. They are beside old KFC and gulshan.
Awwn… It was a nice place for Icecream when I was 10! :)
Maybe they’ll come back ….with new series of shops and stuff! :D
