The Birds of Karachi Must Feel Lucky! :)

I came across a forwarded mail a few days back containing some recent Pictures of Karachi.

Since then I was wondering that it doesn’t matter how much broken roads we still have, so many ‘kachi abadiyan’ and a number of failed and seized construction projects, we still have made it to the point when we look at our City it looks good, in fact it looks awesome!

Its better to take some time out from our fast lives, all the criticizing and a typical “Karachi daytime life” and spend some time to focus what we have that is really good and worth appreciating. Its good to put yourself in place of a bird and try to see the city as the birds might see it, not being a part of the hectic parts of life just enjoying the scenery. It might seem a little fanatic to be saying something like this “be a bird” or something like that. Its metaphorical, get the essence and spend some time of our lives into something memorable.

Take a look at a couple of pictures of sights in Karachi…

The e-mail containing the pictures did not mention any credits to the photographer, so for me all the credit goes to the sender of that e-mail :P

Karachi always looks cleaner and nicer at night, esp from air. Try driving from Clifton sea shore to points east and north via Clifton Road, Elphinstone, Bunder Road, Mazar, Univ Road, or via Metropole on Drigh Road towards the havaai-aDDah, or on Nazimabad Road and onward towards North Nazimabad.
Or as I said, watch KArachi by night from air.

But, the problem is facing the reality. At night, or from air, you can not see the filth spread all over Karachi by the filthy people : e.g. look at Zamzama. Imagine filthy people of DHA and Clifton throwing garbage all over Zamzama (no civic sense, obviously). This is the filth that you can’t see at night, or from air.
Most of the garbage on streets can’t be easily seen at night. BAdly dressed people, people in dhotees/loongis and shalvar qameezes playing with their **** in public are out of sight …mostly. No wonder Balma enjoys looking at Karachi from air or a late night drive between the shore, Sadar, and other parts of Karahi. Having said this, the pictures above are good, indeed. Balma ko pasand aayaa!

ah yes. it doesnt really matter that kachi abadiyan still exist as long as karachi’s roads look pretty from a bird’s eye view.

how refreshing to see another person who doesnt care about poverty!

also. has anyone ever wondered why the karachi government is always busy building roads and never EVER makes an effort to make or repair footpaths (anyone wanna hazard a guess)?

karachi’s footpaths are beyond awful. often they go on for only five feet and then disappear into thin air forcing the pedestrian to walk on the road. at which cars of course honk wildly and drivers curse the ignorant masses for not knowing better than to walk on the roads. it must really suck to have to deal with that everyday.

in america and europe there are broad, unhampered, continuous sidewalks sometimes as wide as the roads next to them. walking on them is a real pleasure. if we had those kinds of sidewalks in karachi id walk to the superstore or videowalla instead of drive and waste all that petrol.

Nice one.Why KMB doesn’t raise the issue about raising transport fares?

Why KMB doesn’t raise the issue about raising transport fares?

Maybe because most(or almost ALL) don’t use public transport?

  9. barristerakc on April 4th, 2008 @ 11:40 am

Adnan, thats a valid point – apparently KMB folks are too busy posting crap for the sake of posting – it seems there’s a competition between them to post more and more.

I wonder what will happen to KMB in long term? we will all loose the charm I guess!!!!!

    @barristerakc, adnansiddiqi and samz:-

Friends. KMB is all about everything… Everyone is thinking about some thing different every second. At this time you must be thinking about the fares and made the comment, while I was thinking about what I made a post about. Its a matter of time when something / some issue gets posted. KMB writes about almost everything, the positive aspects, the negative aspects and other non-crucial issues and elements of the city. If you go back and do a little research on previous posts on Karachi metblogs, I’m sure you will find posts about almost all of your concerns and I assure you that it will be kept on posting till forever.

The pictures are really good, specially the one of sea view fountain with a full moon. Good job done by the photographer….

We are slowly moving towards betterment. Hope we will get a sense of cleanliness too. I can at least dream of the day when people will stop spitting Pan everywhere (I hate this thing than anything else), parents will teach the kids not to threw waste & wrappers on streets, there will be no chowking on the walls, people will begin making queue wherever required and will start using public toilets rather than relieving themselves by the roadside.

I day will come…. And then these kind of pictures will look more beautiful….

Nice refreshing post. Keep it coming!

If you don’t like KMB what are you doing here? The author has the right to post anything he wants and to have his own views. If you differ from his ideas present yours in a civilized and decent manner.

There has been a tremendous amount of development since MQM came to power and no one can deny that. In every case, there are positives and negatives. Building of flyovers and underpasses is necessary if six hundred cars are going to be registered everyday otherwise you’ll be complaining about even more horrendous traffic jams!

Oh hey, look at this, three of my pics got in there as well :D
