Choice and the number of SIMs a person has solely depends on his/her social standing. I believe that the categorization should / could be done based on the types of consumers. I myself prefer to keep one number (as far as I could), others move to a new service provider as soon as they hear low price offers from other providers. Some of them even chose to have multiple SIMs based on their needs of messaging, GPRS, calling separately.

I personally believe that ALL service providers require major improvements in quality. Some are better some are worse, some are very good when it comes to post paid connections but gets expensive on the other hand, and so the debate can go on.

Marketing is yet another aspect of 'selling', but for the wise consumers, it doesn't have much of an impact on their choice. But the major problem is that the majority share of the consumer market is in the unwise or young groups.

So to sum up - The general local selling policy would be "If you want to sell, sell it cheap. If you want to exist, make it cheaper. If you want to be popular, make a cheap advertisement" :-)

A little bit of both actually. And add to that the fact that some people are bent on keeping as many SIMs as possible.
