tariqkhanani, yes it should be 'waited' and 'than' instead of 'then'. There are plenty of other grammatical mistakes in the post but that really doesn't make it a bad post. I just wanted to highlight this fact for your self improvement Jamash and don't want to sound critical.

Noe coming back to the post, Jamash please disclose the name of the doctor to make everyone aware of NOT going to this doc. Also, aren't the doctor supposed to be registered with Pakistan Medical and Dental Association (PMDC) or the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) to pratice? I'm not sure but I know that there is such a body where you have to get yourself registered. Even while applying for a loan in a bank as a doctor you have to produce such a doctor showing valid registration. If so, you should report this chap to the PMDC and get his license siezed. Unless you do that, there is no way the society will improve or we will be able to make a change. Now I know you can say that no one will pay attention to your complain but atleast give it a try! You never know someone might take a solid action. I think this is where we Pakistanis lack. We have lost all the trust in eachother and govt departments that we don't even raise our voice anymore. Good luck!

It is an established fact that there are far more quacks operating in Pakistan than there are real doctors. Even a semi-educated person knows this.

Having said that, I have to wonder at your, Jamash, level of comprehension of this fact. Your ordeal was not because of these quacks but of your own creation and due to your ignorance factor.

That you were asked to, and you took anti-biotics before establishing the cause of the sickness shows your carelessness. Even your cousin doctor, who set you up on this route, seems to be semi qualified at best. Avoid him next time.

Keep in mind, after starting medications, especially anti-biotics, renders most blood test results less accurate or useless.

That you chose to take advise from an old man, says a plenty. Old does not translate into wise. Next time ask a younger person.

Lastly doctors are not Gods, ask them a hundred questions before accepting what he or she has asked you to do. And never hesitate to walk away from one should you feel the need to.

As for your article, without disclosure there is no exposure. Hiding the identity of this quack makes you a part of the problem.

In the end I hope that you are feeling better now. But more importantly that you have learned a lesson from here.

some (not all) of the doctors get a commission on prescribing expensive tests and medicines. they also recommend a specific medical store or laboratory bcoz its what they are paid for. the game becomes big in life saving drugs and doctors are offered bribes and foreign trips to recommend a specific medicine brand.

Well why don’t you name the doctor, please? And this is where problems start – there are not enough people standing up against corrupt, criminal and accused.

There are thousands of Quacks going un-noticed in Karachi – specially in slums? I hope PMA starts a campaign with the police soon.
