currently there are very few centers for Transfusion of Thalassemic patience in Karachi and in sindh in general.

One that i know of is being run by the fatmid foundation near nistar park, soldier bazar.

One of its problems is its location. Where ever our elites whims is broken and the city goes into chaos access to the center practically becomes impossible.

From what i have seen the place could use a face lift itself.

And there desperately needs to alternate centers around the city. Also there needs to advocay of associated deceases that is caused as result of various complecation due to Thalesemia.

Also such children tend to leave school. As the get tired and emotionallyh very weak very fast. May be just be something could be done about that.

Hi,
I read somewhere most blood camps doesn't practice blood testing like HIV so please make sure before donoting bloods. Its one of the reason why HIV is on high in pakistan.

Take care yourself

One teenage thalassemic needs 24 pints of blood each year and adult needs double the quantity. These days there is some serious shortage of -ve group donors (O-ve,A-ve,B-ve and AB-ve). With every passing day, number of thalassemics is increasing, along with the overall blood requirement. Camps like these are very much required and most importantly a positive response from people.
