They were also planning to build a world ranking skyscraper, in a city where the fire department has has trouble in reaching above the 10th floor!! I think I'm going to be sick. Yet, they are fast depleting - pollution, overgrazing, and cutting down of these trees for firewood at a rate faster than that of their regeneration. Add to this the willful and criminal destruction of this national treasure by the very people that are supposed to be it's custodians. The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) have gone ahead and filled a large section, off the MaiKolachi Bypass, to develop a housing colony for KPT officers. Is there no land left in Karachi? Even though President Musharraf had ordered a stop to this because of an outcry by those concerned about it's environmental impact, the KPT is slowly working on the project.
