Is Karachi ready for Osama bin Laden?

Hello folks. Oh sorry. Asalam u Alikum Ya Taliban & Ya Osama bhai and other Jihadis.

MQM chiefs have reportedly informed govt. of Pakistan (aka PPP and lots of coalition partners) that the threat of Talibanization to Karachi looks imminent. Mildly put, it means that we will all be Taliban sporting lot of things you see at National Geographic programs which are on Afghanistan. You will also like to blow up school girls, like Mama Parsi, and other brilliant places of education; you would also like to keep doctors away from your wives (one won’t do); you would also like to throw away your camera as photography is not much appreciated by them (never mind Osama bhai always gives video interviews). You would, if in case we have MQM replaced with Talibans and Al-Qaeda, also have to replace Bhai Altaf’s photographs, posters, and 90 from Karachi. In place of them we would need lots of Osama shots: Osama praying, Osama marrying yet another woman, Osama praying again, Osama tapping suicide bombers, and Osama doing everything else. Lot of printing jobs would be offered, but to those having flourishing beards, amamas (Arabic term for turban), and wives in tow (I think Jamatias will take away all the jobs!)

So, do we need Taliban / Osama bin Laden in Karachi?

One major change which Karachi is likely to see, if that happens, is the destruction of roads. Taliban don’t need much roads. They are hardy mountain people and Osama, an Arab, has now gotten used to tough terrains as well. So, the crazy-ness which our young, happy Nazim shows about building and re-building roads would be gone. As I stated earlier, so would the posters of Altaf bhai pastered with pan peek and niswar decorations. We would also not hear much about road-side muwalis (caste-aways) and charsees (drug addicts); and the wholesale business of Heroin at various Tombs would also go down. Various liquor shops around Karachi, especially at Shahra-e-Faisal and Defence areas, which are really very visible, would also need to shift their business elsewhere, maybe to Lahore. We would also see an end to prostitution which happens openly at Lea Market, Tariq Road and Defence (all phases). We might also see an end to expensive ad campaigns and the stars of Ad agencies and GEO Bhago network would be preaching in masjids called GEO masjids. We might as well see our 25th December replaced with the birth anniversary of Osama’s 33rd child. All in all, it would be fun for some and no fun for many others.

But Osama is not a happy man. He and his Taliban friends like to destroy historical sites (destruction of Bahmian Buddhas built over 100 years and which stood there for over 2000 years), does not like to have Americans and other investors around; he and his Taliban friends also apparently hate games (the execution of prisoners during Taliban time took place in football stadium, Kabul). Osama bhai also does not appear to be a great fan of beaches either. So no night parties anymore.

Oh yes, 90 will surely become 9/11!

We’ll not bow before terrorists: Altaf

    By Fareed Farooqui

KARACHI: “We will not bow our heads before ‘Taliban terrorists’ but will face them. The conspiracy of ‘Talibanization’ is on the rise in Karachi and MQM activists should remain mentally and physically prepared to face hard times ahead,” said Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain, during the Karachi Workers Convention at Lal Qila Ground, Nine Zero, Azizabad on Sunday.

During his telephone address, he said that Islam brings a message of peace and brotherhood and does not support terrorism, rather it stops its followers from inflicting cruelty and brutality. “Today, terrorists strangle innocent people and the educational institutes are being burnt, all in the name of Islam. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that ‘it is obligatory for every man and woman alike to get an education’, but is it correct according Shariat to strangle people and burn educational institutes?” asked Hussain.

He advised intellectuals and writers to make the masses aware of the conspiracies of Talibanization because the country faces a difficult time. The sovereignty of the country will be threatened if Talibanization is not curbed. MQM, he added, has informed the masses time and again.

“The people here (in Pakistan) were Muslims and are Muslims, so what sort of Muslims do they (the Taliban) want to make us? Actually, they (the Taliban) want to bring the Shariat of the Kalashnikov into force but the people will not tolerate such a ‘forced Shariat’,” Hussain said.

He was of the view that Karachi faces the conspiracies as in FATA and the visit of Umme Hassan was part of the same agenda. Hassan visited different religious seminaries of the city and provoked the administrations and students of these Madaris to launch Jihad. After her visit, the activities of some, including many ‘veils’, have increased, he said, adding that these are all conspiracies of Talibanization.

Hussain appealed to the people to protect themselves from these schemes and appealed to the well-off to help people financially to retard Talibanization. He warned the terrorists that Karachi is not FATA and the people of Karachi will not tolerate the ‘forced Shariat’.

He demanded that the president, prime minister, federal advisor on interior and Sindh governor, chief minister and home minister look into the matter and take immediate and stern action against such conspiracies.\08\04\story_4-8-2008_pg12_6

Altaf bai and his gang is actively busy talibanizing Karachi, overnight thousands of large posters and banners have been pasted on the walls in every street of karachi. last time Altaf bai and his gang of talibans whined about talibanization and we were gifted with multiple bomb blasts in karachi, now he seems to be cooking something again..

American ambassador Anne’s visits back and forth to Altaf bai’s international hideout at Edgware Street Tora Bora and then Nazim Karachi’s visit to US finally seem to be bearing fruit, Karachi is being talibanized..

This is another ploy from the party I stand for and vote : to stop Pashtoon migration into Karachi. Now I agree that Pashtoon migration to Karachi is hurting Karachi badly and I am advocating forceful return of Pashtuns back to there caves but coming out with an idea of ‘Talebanization’ is over the top.

I am not sure if Talibanization of Karachi is a myth. I know someone who had long hair and rides a motorbike was stopped in Shirin Jinnah colony by some people claiming to be Talibans, who cut off his hair and asked him never to come there again looking like that.

Can I swear by it, simply put no. But I would not put it behind me so easily. Where there is smoke there is bound to be some fire, big or small. There is a real and imminent danger of non-Islamic fanaticism (my words for Talibanization) spreading to various nook and corners of not only Karachi but other cities of Pakistan too.

In this respect, I would side with anyone, even with Altaf, nauseating as it may be, to rid ourselves of this black turban curse.

For the last time, Altaf Hussian does not live in Edgware road. Edgware is a very posh locality of London where Rehman Malik had his house which was the defacto PPP secretariat during BB’s self imposed exile. I have been to that house back in 2004.
Altaf Hussian lives in Edgware which is a working class part of the city.

Its strange, people who perhaps have not even left their little villages talk about other cities and who own what in other cities.

these neocon republicans are taking Americans and rest of the world for a ride, after kidnapping Dr. Afia Siddiqui from karachi in 2003 and recent coverage of her mysterious disappearance and illegal detention in international media, they have cooked up a story that she was arrested only just last month(17 july) in Ghazni province of Afghanistan outside Ghazi’s governor house planning a terror attack. furthermore they claim that after the arrest she managed to snatch a assault rifle from a US soldier and attack them with it. other soldiers shot her twice and she was subdued. now she is shifted to newyork to face charges of attempted murder.

Someone pointed out above, maybe Karachiwalla, that Taliban need Karachi to smuggle their drugs. This is totally incorrect. During Taliban rule, and as testified by National Geographic also, drugs were totally eliminated from Afghanistan and their economy became non-controversial (legalized). As soon as USA-backed mujahids from North, called Northern Alliance, came along drugs spread quickly to all parts of the country. As of now, when USA, UK, NATO and other allied forces are present in the country, 91% of the drug production of the world is being catered by Afghanistan. USA, incidentally, gets lots of those drugs.

One can imagine that with the appearance of Taliban in the city atleast drugs will be banned, which bhai loog of Karachi and Pir of London has failed to do in so many years of their rule. (It took Taliban merely 5 years to eliminate drugs from the country).

For the non-believers…. take a good look around, things might not be the same for long.

Pakistan’s unit of the Taliban, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has said that their next area for expanding its operations was Karachi , where they want to end vulgarity.

Karachi holds great significance for the Taliban movement, and the Taliban aim to establish themselves in the port city to end vulgarity in the city, the Daily Times quoted TTP spokesman Maulvi Umar as saying.

Karachi is considered as the financial and entertainment capital of Pakistan . It is also strategically situated city of Pakistan suiting the countrys business and commercial interests.

Umar further said that foreign enemies were setting their sight at Karachi , as it had become countrys economic lifeline. Talibans presence in Karachi will make it safe and bring peace to the city, he added.

Umar also said that the Taliban were present everywhere in the country and were the real heirs of Pakistan

I have gr8 respect for the Taliban who r operating in Afghanistan. They r giving the foreign troops a really hard time & I pray & hope they succeed there.
As far as Pakistan is concerned, there is no motive/ reason of such acts. Mehsood is an Ass hole & I bet he is playing in the hands of Pak Enemies, giving more than enough reasons for the world to fear pakistan & its tribal areas.

The recent statements by spokesman of Taliban : Omar is pure propaganda & I bet they r trying / will try their level best to destabilize karachi too.

I believe that the same hands who r involved in talibanization of Pakistan/ Karachi r now also using Altaf Hussain & MQM against their own creation just to put the entire city into chaos. So the khar dimag pashtoon & MQM people r being used to fulfill the dirty agenda of our enemies

There is no doubt that many ppl have immigrated from FATA to Karachi & those definitely include terrorists too, but ofcourse they r being used other wise I don’t know what "shariat" the so called local taliban talk abt when Shariat clearly states that One should not revold/ take up arms against the ruling government UNLESS it stops u from ur deen i.e. stop one to pray/ fast / haj etc & this is definitely not the case here.

This is an interesting report btw.

A report published today in Daily Times:

Taliban can take control of Karachi anytime: TTP

    * TTP warns Altaf to end ‘kingdom’ in Karachi
    * Militant action across country if Swat operation not stopped

    By Hasbanullah Khan

KHAR: The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) warned Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Tuesday to “immediately end his kingdom in Karachi”, saying the time was ripe for the Taliban to gain control of the city.

“This is a warning for Altaf Hussain to cease his statements against the Taliban and end his kingdom in Karachi, otherwise we will launch attacks against the MQM and its leaders once we are given the go-ahead by Baitullah Mehsud,” TTP chief Maulana Faqeer Muhammad and spokesman Maulvi Umar told a joint press conference at Inayat Kalay. According to Online, Umar boasted that the Taliban had ‘massive’ support of Karachi’s residents and Mehsud could take control of the city whenever he wanted to.

The spokesmen said the TTP was “prepared to wage jihad to counter United States and NATO forces in the Tribal Areas” and had established anti-aircraft “missile systems” along the Pak-Afghan border for this purpose.

Militant action: The TTP spokesmen also warned that they would instigate militant action across the country if the government did not stop the ongoing military operation in Swat and continued to pursue a military option in the Tribal Areas.

Umar said that, on the directives of Baitullah Mehsud, the TTP had convened special meetings of Taliban commanders to design a strategy against the government if the military operations continued. He said that the organisation had given a “positive response” to the government’s proposals for peace. However, he added, neither the federal nor the provincial government had stood by their promises to continue dialogue with the Taliban to maintain law and order. Umar said that the TTP had established a special squad, comprised of a large number of male and female suicide bombers aged between 10 and 20, to target top government officials.\08\06\story_6-8-2008_pg1_4

Let me quote some one who really matter in current setup i.e. Sindh’s interior minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, coz Altaf had a habit of whining about "Jageerdarana Waderana" crap and now he got a new phrase Talibanization to wail and howl about.

Sindh minister rejects threats of Talibanisation in Karachi

    highlights of his press conference:

According to Sindh’s Interior minister every thing is fine and he didn’t find any evidence regarding talibanization anywhere in Sindh. Religious education was being provided in mosques and seminaries, which could not be termed illegal .

he said Illegal, terrorist activities will not be tolerated in Karachi and if any one tries to create law and order situation be it any one then he is a criminal and will be dealt accordingly.

Referring to MQM he said it was for the peace of karachi that we invited them to join the coalition government(otherwise as usual they would have resumed their terrorist activities) .

He further stated that coz of operation in tribal areas many refugees have taken refugee here in karachi and being displaced from their homes they are welcome to stay here . “Pakhtuns are just as much citizens of Pakistan as I am. They are our brothers. They are against Talibanisation. As long as people are peaceful, they can stay in Karachi as long as they want.”

He also blamed MQM and its stupid leadership for creating talibanization bogey which is scary away investors and causing capital flight. Industrialists are packing up and leaving. (its no surpise as MQM’s City Nazim is threatning to change the geographics of this region)

Those july 7th multiple explosions in karachi were meant to create a rift between Urdu and Pashto speaking taliban or religious group was involved in those blasts.

According to him religious madressahs are peacefully operating in karachi and as long as they’re operating peacfully there is no problem with them. He said there was a difference between Islamisation and Talibanisation. “Islamisation, yes, Talibanisation, no,” he said.

When asked about the wall-chalking and posters that have sprouted up across the city warning citizens against the impending Taliban threat, Dr Mirza said it was an “organised campaign to destabilise law and order.(as i have noted earlier MQM is planning terrorist activities to justify its stand on talibanization,7 july blasts were a trailer)

To a question about Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz’s wife Umme Hassan’s recent visit to Karachi, the minister said that as a Pakistani she was free to visit the city. “We were watching her. She is not a labelled terrorist.”(Absconding grand terorist Altaf bai have been waling and weeping ever since she visited karachi connecting it to talibanization of karachi)

Asked about the insistence of some political circles to form citizens’ committees to protect Karachi from the Taliban, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza said no help was needed to maintain law and order. “Personal armies and lashkars will not be allowed.” (newly formed Community police should also be closely watched, only profesional lads with proper training should be inducted and those inducted coz of their association with MQM’s unit and sector should be flushed out)

There is NO Taliban in Karachi: Mirza\08\07\story_7-8-2008_pg12_9

No evidence of talibanization in Sindh: Zulfiqar Mirza

  37. bozz on August 9th, 2008 @ 10:13 pm

    More evidence for the skeptics.

Ayesha Siddiqa, a Pakistani independent security analyst, on Saturday said that there might be a possibility of Taliban control over Karachi, Pakistan’s most populated city and a business hub.

Talking to IRNA she said that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) warning to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) a political party, to immediately end their kingdom in Karachi as the time has ripe for the Taliban to gain control of the city, cannot be taken lightly.

Intelligence Agencies had used these religious groups to replace MQM and these groups have much influence on religious sects of the city, Ayesha Siddiqa said.

  38. tzaidi on August 10th, 2008 @ 2:46 am

Who gave birth to Talibanization or talibanism? Its was Pakistani Military, CIA and Saudi Arabia. CIA provided the planning, Saudi Arabia provided the funding and our own ISI implemented the whole plan!!. Americans had their own agenda, that is to keep then USSR, in Central Asia and to fail their efforts to access warm waters of Arabian Seas. Pakistan Military, as usual obeyed the US command, as we all know.

The Saudis !!! why they provided funding? because of love of Islam? to help their muslim brothers? NO….. they provided funding so that they can expand their influnce through SALAFISM in Afghanistan and then eventually in Pakistan. Fortunately (& unfortunately for some) this Saudi plan didnt succeed fully. But now after getting defeated in Afghanistan, these Taliban want to get a new base for their funding and fresh blood. They tried northern areas (their blood place) but now Pak army is beating the hell out of them. So what next?

The only place they can turn to is Karachi, why? because there is sizable amount of Pashtoon speaking community is based in Karachi and surrounding areas. Being a half Pathan, I can tell you that 95% of pushtoon in Karachi are doing odd jobs, like vegetable sellers, vehicle drivers or construction workers. In this time of inflation its hard for them to earn their bread. These taliban will target them provide them food in 100s of maderesahs in Karachi and eventualy will brain washed them against the foreign elements in Pakistani (in other words Islamic) society. Sounds like good plan, isnt it? Well, its already happening, you visit one maderesah and you will find 80% to 90% of their students belonging from one community, i.e. Pathans!!! Wallah!!

If taliban are really islam lovers (or saviours, as they call themselves) then howcome they dont follow Islamic rules in battle, why they ambush (not allowed in Islam), kill women (not allowed in Islam), cut throats of captured enemy (not allowed in Islam) and kill their own muslim brothers (again not allowed in Islam). Ever wondered why Osama or his closed allies are never named wounded or even involved in any hand to hand battle. Well, RasulAllah (PBUH) was always played the most important roles during battle, be it battle of Badr, Uhad or Makkah. Why Osama or his sons were never invoved in for-front battles. Because for them war / battle / uprising / insurgency are name of businesses / trades they do. War has grown into an industry, be it UK, US or Taliban, all of them are surviving on war eventualities.

Lastly, Karachi has its own lifestyle, whether good or bad, we are used to to it. Its our city and we have made it. MQM or no MQM, this city can only be saved by its residents, so plase act know to save it.

I completely agree with your comments. Indeed, Saudi govt. found a wonderful way of getting their new, unorganized, fundamentalist view of Islam called Salafi point of view to this part of Sufistic world, where people go to Mazars, tend to keep religion in their hearts rather than on their sleeves and are genuinely interested in Muslim welfare then calling everyone Kafir.

And today’s DAWN has this to report:

Altaf urges people to get arms for self-defence

    By Azfar-ul-Ashfaque

KARACHI, Aug 9: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has asked the people of Karachi to get licences and buy arms to counter an impending threat of Talibanisation of Karachi.

“The Taliban have all kinds of arms and ammunition, so I request you to take measures for your own protection. You should acquire licences and get weapons for self-defence,” he said while speaking from London to a gathering of residents of Defence and Clifton on Friday night.

A large number of residents of Defence and Clifton, diplomats, industrialists and businessmen attended the meeting. He also called upon the youths to acquire training to fight against the Talibanisation.

He maintained that the MQM favoured a law that allowed no one to carry arms. “But we will not tolerate that the Taliban possess modern weapons and attack our homes,” he added. However, he clarified that the MQM was against Talibanisation and it was not against any particular community, including the Pakhtuns living in the city. “It is our duty to protect the Pakhtuns and Punjabis,” he added….’

The focal point of Mr Hussain’s address was to inform the residents of posh neighbourhoods of Karachi about the threat of Talibanisation in the city. He chose not to give his party’s policy with regard to the ruling coalition’s plan to impeach President Pervez Musharraf as he only said that it was not a right time for impeachment. He vowed that his party would never allow the Taliban to take over the city and urged the residents to help

People of karachi has the right to possess arms.
People in Punjab have that in sindh in balochistan and in NWFP so why not in karachi ?
    Whats wrong in that ??
Ayesha Siddiqa famous for her book about Militry has categorically said there is a threat of talibanization of karachi and what said more just read it .

Ayesha Siddiqa: Taliban control over Karachi Can’t be ruled out

Asked about the status of peace deals between Pakistani government and local Taliban in the tribal areas, she said that the future of these agreements depends on the future of the conflict in Pakitsani tribal area.

She added that the conflict in region is not between Pakistan and tribesmen but between multiple stake-holders and certainly US and its allies have an influence in the region.

"I don’t think that there would a major breakthrough coming out of these peace deals," she said.

Ayesha was of the view that problem in the area is that the stake-holders are not coming up with the roles they are playing in the region, they are not confessing there roles.

She said that certainly there is a pressure from US on Pakistan not to enter into peace agreements but the final decision would be taken by the Pakistani government in this regard.

To a question about the possibility of attack by the US in Pakistani tribal region, she said that if the hawks prevail upon Washington there will be an attack.

She added that the US will not be able to get much from the attack on Pakistani tribal region., But there is always a possibility of attack Dr. Ayesha said that in case of US attack in Pakistani tribal area the regime in Pakistan would loose its credibility in the public.

To a query about the military operation in Swat she said that Pakistani army would not be able to succeed in Swat.

There is a tricky situation in Swat and Mualana Fazlullah a local leader has been getting support from tribal areas in fight against the Pakistan army, she said.

Siddiqa received her doctorate from King’s College London in 1996 and has worked on issues varying from military technology, defense decision-making, nuclear deterrence, arms procurement, arms production to civil-military relations in South Asia.

She has been a civil servant for 11 years during which she was asked to work as the Director of Naval Research with Pakistan Navy making her the first civilian and a woman to work at that position in Pakistan’s defense establishment. –IRNA
