CIO Pakistan Launch and Awards

CIO Pakistan It was a morning set to impress. The a hall of a hotel in Karachi was buzzing with activity aw we were all ready for another milestone to be laid in the history achievements in the It industry of Pakistan.  

The event was the launch of CIO Pakistan Magazine, CIO is the world’s largest business technology leadership magazine, printed in over 35 countries around the world and will now be printing locally to help highlight and support our local technology Industry. Besides the launch the event also included CIO “Technology Pioneer Awards” the recognize the excellence and the achievements of the best amongst the leaders of the local technology and telecommunication industry.

The event started with a welcome address by the editor in chief CIO Pakistan, Rabia Garib, followed by an in-depth analysis of Pakistan’s technology industry by Margaret Adam Research Manager, IT Services, IDC MEA. Next in the row was Dilawar Abbas Syed, President OPEN silicon valley & Yahoo who was followed by Rishi Jaitly from Google inc.

The speakers made us realize that our country holds incredible potential in the technology sector and specially for the fact that out people have embraced technology with open arms, and despite the lack of education they are not shying away from the immerging new technology and trying to benefit more from it. Today mobile banking has become a reality and even a few illiterates have learned to pay their utility bills using there cell phones. Besides the demand for automated customer support and assistance system is also on the rise and stores are moving towards automation. Also we have not left technology behind in the field of art and almost every single thesis of art schools display a few items in new media art.

The event continued after a short tea break for an award distribution ceremony.

Taking Technology Global: Building Pakistan’s Image Abroad:
 Salim Ghauri, Chairman & CEO NetSol and Dilawar Abbas Syed, President OPEN silicon valley

Pioneer in Governance:
Syed Mustafa Kamal, City Nazim, CDGK and Dr.Aamir Matin, Former MD PSEB.

After the award ceremony the event concluded to lunch but not before a question answer session with panelists including Rabia Garib, Margaret Adam, Dilawar Abbas Syed, Rishi S. Jaitly, and Salman Ansari, moderated by Jehan Ara. The panelists answered several question highlighting issues like cyber crimes, secure mobile banking and using technology for our and our countries benefit. 

After the lunch a small group of local bloggers gathered to an informal chat with Rishi Jaitly who confessed to have been introduced to the real Pakistan through it’s blogsphere and was really delighted to meet all the bloggers .

The event  the launch or CIO’s Pakistan edition, the awards and the presence of International It stakeholders is milestone for the local Technology Industry. It is evident that the Technology Industry in Pakistan has absolute potential, we just need to look into it more deeply and seriously.
