Lion’s Anyone?

Not being satisfied by keeping birds and goldfish in their houses anymore Karachi wallas have now resorted to the import and illegal keeping of pets like Lions, Panthers etc to show off their newly acquired wealth and status.

These animals are mostly smuggled in through our grand airport at Karachi, remember how the deportees broke loose there? and are then delivered to their owners home. Two companies are operating in this regard one with offices in Defense and the second with offices in F.B area

Conservation has no place in our society and thus we are along with the SWD (Sindh Wildlife Department) happily looking the other way as these maginificent beasts are being escorted to their cages in posh gardens to be shown off at high teas and such. This is also a dangerous activity as recently PESCHS was in uproar over two lions which escaped from their cages and were seen roaming the streets.

So before we convert our gardens into minizoos and play havoc with the life of fellow citizens by keeping such dangerous carnivorous pets can we stop and think a little? Can the SWD please also do something in this regard as some of the species being smuggled in are endangered.

I have TWO CATS so what ? They belong to me, I feed them, I nurture them, and I manage their regular health checks,

as long as I can hold them in perimeters of my house NO ONE have any right.

However, IF My neighbors are disturbed and they make a collective complaint, and YES If I let my PETs loose, and they go out in public scaring the daylights outta them,

following departments shall act and charge me with relevant applicable LAW(s).

    a. Area Nazim
    b. Area Police
    c. SWD
    d. NWCC
    e. Customs

Ummm MB dude…i was referring to bigger cats then those.. no offense to Ashley or Goldie. Plus it is an offense legally to keep lions in ones perimeter.

I doubt that these big cats are transported through Jinnah International, any endangered species, if need to transport, have to be accompained with CITES certificate. And as far as I know, all countries , except for Mayanmar has signed for it.

May be these big cates are coming from nothern areas or through seaport.

Expat: I can’t keep these above mentioned cats in any cage. They are cage-less and very harmful for the environment.

As for the species dwindling across the globe, one major reason is off course that people buy such exotic animals and keep them as pets. As a result the nature is very un-balanced in some places and ecosystems are dying pretty fast. Neighbours or no neighbours, one must be concious of the fact that without these beautiful animals and birds and insects our world would be a very drab place, one where I won’t like to dwell. I hope people become more aware of these issues.
