Sceptic says:

'The post is a needless sensationalisation of almost nothing. Many festivials in many other countries are celebrated with fireworks. Shab-e-barat is not celebrated every night, so get over it. It is people’s festival, let them celebrate as they like.'

I am not sure how to describe people who call Shab-e-Barat as a festival. And what celebrations? One must be praying this night for forgiveness and for a better life.

jamash your post depicts that as if you have never lived in Karachi, these firecrackers go off every year on shab-barat since quarter of a century i remember., however this year the FEROCITY was much low then yester years.

it is the time of year when after the sunset on 14th of shaban every year ALLAH (SWT) revises the list of being & non-being, so is the histab kitab of rizq for the universe., not alone of muslims. However it is an important night for MUSLIMs to seek forgiveness and pardon from ALLAH, and request for Barkat and Multiplication of prosperity.,

ALLAH HAM SAB KO EMAN KE SALAMTI ATA FARMAAY. Ameen

sceptic has just amazed me. Shab-e-Barat as a festival and moment of happiness? I bet our barelvi bhais would feel a severe pain(may be feel a heart attack) after reading your reasoning of Shab-e-Barat.

In reality this night as told by some sunni sects that Allah decides who will survive next year and who have to die next year etc etc and this night is asked to repent Allah for the sins. Your reason literally made me laugh. Thanks

@Asim: you shud have watched Jahil online on GEO in which he was busy to exhibit his mantra about 15th of Shaban. Actually it's all about competition between Barelvis and Shias that who comes first that's it.

I came to Karachi in June 1993 from a country with a small muslim minority and was horrified to see that such a solemn event like shabe-barat in the city is the equivalent of new year celebrations elsewhere in the world with firecrackers and gunshots(this one is a unique way of celebration indigenous to karachi only)!!
I was startled to find out the distorted image of this occasion in an Islamic country. Even for a person who lacks basic religious knowledge like me it seemed absurd that this event is linked with firecrackers...God forbid we might even see Bhangra on shab e baraat very soon

Alas, a relevant topic by one of the sensible persons here on MB.

I am feeling like Karachi is under intense bombardment. The night of forgiveness has been transformed into the night of inconveniences for (the people who pray and others) and spreading noise-pollution.
