Personally I believe that there is no joy greater than watching a well-performed live act and many would support me in this.
Past year, we have seen reasonably good growth in theater scene of Karachi. Ajoka came to Karachi after a decade, NAPA and Tehrik-e-Niswan also arranged some good plays.
This year, the theater scene will kick off with a play “Khuwabo Kay Musafir” written by Intazar Hussain, directed by renowned director Zia Mohyuddin and organized by National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA). The play is scheduled to be performed from 10th January 2009 to 20th January 2009 at Arts Council Theater Hall.
Tickets Available on 0333-2127632.
Ticket Price: Rs. 800/-
I personally think that the ticket price becomes expensive if you are a student, but you can still ask the organizers whether they are willing to provide discounts to student groups as most organizers usually offer big concessions.

Since a few days I am spending most of my time swatting flies, it is not that I don’t have anything better to do but when these tiny flying insects bother you beyond your limits of tolerance one has to take these measures, I have got the flours washed with Phenol, have tried bug spray on them but nothing seems to shatter their determination nor they reduce in number because they are plentiful all over the city.
Today I parked my car under a tree in North Nazimabad and within an hour there were at least a thousand of flies on the bonnet alone, two days ago I discovered one in the Biryani purchased from a famous Biryani Chain in the city, and today in the morning, Right in our own garden, along side the mint plants one committed suicide in my freshly brewed cup of coffee. Costa Coffee closes down
In what may have been a three years of splendid coffee [
covered by KMB in 2005 when it opened its doors], Costa Coffee has closed its operations across Karachi [& across Pakistan, as I am informed] as of January 1st 2009.
The location at Zamzama stands deserted, with a lone guard manning the front door probably to keep any stray coffee addicts away from rancoffee-beansacking the joint. The location at both D-Marts is deserted as well. Though the official statement [as narrated by the guard on duty] is that they have ‘closed down for renovations’, but the other competing coffee house ‘down the street’ narrates a story of tremendous business losses, as practically everything was being imported from abroad and sustainability in this economic down turn did not bode well for the Pakistani operations.
I for sure will miss out on its coffee …. but more importantly Pakistan also stands to loose on this franchise, as it would surely not set a good example for other similar ventures in the future.

Mr Zardari is everywhere; in the Presidency, in the newspapers, on the television and plastered on the numerous hoardings and billboards that adorn the city of (candle) lights. Someone has taken this Zardari mania a step further and put his name on his car’s number plate.

Sighted at Civic Centre.

Living in Karachi we are always complaining that the national resources are low on clean water, we complain of the load shedding and power breakdowns, gas water heaters rendering useless at times with the gas load shedding. But between all those complains and whinings how easily we forget that we can conveniently over come at least one of our issues by simply changing our showering habits, actually not even changing but going back to the good old ways, and enjoying it, yes I am talking about the Balti Baths, and this blog that I came across today, give it a read and you might too turn to enjoy the Balti Baths in the future.
Here is the Blog for your read: http://herekar.blogspot.com/2009/01/balti-bath-and-beyond.html
