Karachi tops in HR violation… really?

According to the Minister for Human Rights Syed Mumtaz Alam Gilani (Yes, we have a separate ministry for human rights which perhaps only compiles the list of violations as published in the newspapers), Karachi tops the list of human rights violations in Pakistan.

As covered in Dawn, the Minister said that 5,140 cases of human rights violations were recoded in the country with Karachi at the top with 2,102 cases. A total of 1,695 such cases were recoded in Lahore, 715 in Peshawar and 628 in Quetta.

I am surprised how the esteemed minister came to these figures. I think the most troubled areas these days in Pakistan are Swat and Waziristan where the militants are chopping off heads with great impunity every day. Are they not part of Pakistan or the ministry is too afraid of the Mullahs operating in those areas to actually say it out loud.

Why single out Karachi?

The minister is basing his findings on recorded data. Karachi is a cosmopolitan city were despite fear people do report HR abuse cases, they have the means, access and awareness.

The same cannot be said for the rest of the country, particularly the areas that you have mentioned. People do not consider many violations as HR violations and even if they do, they cant report or seek redemption. That is the reason why women are being burried alive in the cover of religous or tribal customs.

Now you guys know why i say on KMB that KHI is the most illeterate of cities….lol

Literacy rate in KHI is barely 5%
Oh that one? That’s degree rate that one gov says is 35-40% ETC.

And it also goes to show that our schools colleges and universities pollute children minds instead of enlightening it.

And Tazeen, who told you that chopping off head or bombing a school is the only definition of HR violation ?

I even dont trust that MINISTRY stats , i believe the truth is 10 times horrible.

A country where its president boats that he killed 50 people (May 12 i am talking about) and showed power, what you expect a child or a youngster will learn seeing him drunk in front of so many people on TV?

And guess what, our country will waste 40 caror rupees to find the killers of a corrupt women? What nonsense

600+ people are still missing in PAKSITAN, The only country where state sells its own people for 1 million $ a piece.

    @MB.

As a rule, I do not respond to my posts here at KMB, but I fail to understand your comment.

5% literacy in Karachi? What Karachi do you live in? The Karachi where I live, even my 40 year old maasi is literate and went to St. Judes Convent. Her husband, a driver with TCS is also literate and her son works for a call centre. The mechanic I take my car to is also literate and so is my sabzi wala and chowkidar and I can list many others.

    You also wrote this:
//And Tazeen, who told you that chopping off head or bombing a school is the only definition of HR violation ?////

Well, they may not be the ONLY examples of violation of human rights but they certainly are most VILE examples of human rights violations, i am sure most sane persons would agree with me.

By the way, I would be extremely interested in reading where did our president claimed that he is responsible for the deaths of May 12, 2007. If I recall correctly, he was in New York at that point in time and was not even a minor player in the larger political picture. I would love if you can provide a link for that claim of Mr. Zardari, if it was meant for the ex president, you should have been more clear about that.

If that comment was supposed to be sarcastic, it failed miserably.

This is due to the fact that people of karachi are much aware of their right and when they notice injustice they can speak against it. Lahore on the other hand is some what closer but not up to the mark keeping in mind the two cities are almost equally populated

I think we should be proud of Karachites for contributing

81% of all Income Tax Collected in Pakistan
    69%-75% of revenue to PAKISTAN

So if we REPORT human right’s violation; it’s a good sign then a bad one. That goes to show we know our rights as oppose to the rest of the country.

As for folks like Muneeb (a Punjabi) and Adnan (a Jamaati) and Company ; they could never be sincere to Karachi and Sindh and need’s be hounded out…one of these days…

  9. barrister on February 7th, 2009 @ 3:57 am

Yes, if we leave the Punjabis, Sindhis, Pashtuns out of Karachi living in Slums; Karachi’s literacy rate is around 95% …if we keep them in it would come to around 70-75%….

  10. barrister on February 7th, 2009 @ 4:06 am

These Punjabis living in Karachi will never be loyal to our city…just today, a senior director at PIA mentioned how Nawaz Sharif forced Civil Aviation to increase there landing rates for Karachi Airport in order to force International Carriers to move to Lahore and Islamabad. MQM(s) Professional Research and Advisory Council (PRAC-III) will soon issue a white paper on how much harm Nawaz Sharif caused to the people of Karachi.

Nawaz Sharif also made dry ports in Sialkot, Faisalabad, Lahore etc.. so the Sindh Government could be ripped off from the sales tax percentage agreed by an Agreement between the State of Sindh and State of Pakistan.

We should boycott these Punjabis in Karachi who supported Genocide of Mohajirs in 90(s) and still support PML(N) in Karachi. To start with I have already stopped even shaking hands with an ex-Governor of Sindh (PML-N(s) and his son whose was a dear friend and is a senior banker) …this is the time guys…

Well, its sad that we have so many HR violations happening in our society but totally agree with Kami & Barrister, I am glad that we have came across to a point where people are at least aware of their human rights and reporting HR abuse cases. I really feel sorry for the folks living in the areas who are so oppressed by the local Chaudhrees, Khans, Maliks and Waderas that they can’t even think about raising their voices. Every now and then, we still hear incidents of “Jaloos of the damned” of poor villagers, just because some one from the family has done some thing to displease local “SHER-E-X”. In a society where people feel proud to be named as SHER n what not, one can imagine the height of (or better say, the Depth of) ignorance and moral decay. To them it’s a jungle and they want to maintain the natural hierarchy of the jungle…….HR abuse…… be a joke or crazy talk for them.

  12. بستنی (wasiq) on February 7th, 2009 @ 6:56 am

@ Barrister sab….my dear and respected friend….it is very true..that pubjabi’s can never be loyal to the city of Karachi…because there is not a single punjabi here who wants to live here..and that is a fact not a stats…most of them live here because of the army and services and the rest because of money….punjabi’s i have discovered are very different natured people they do not like to live in metropolises…you would that there are more punjabi’s in new jersey and virginia then they are in the New York.they would rather live in the country side then in a big city..same is the case with london …you i believe would have better experience …there…you may find punjabi’s everywhere in britian not in central london…
Karachi is the last place on earth a punjabi wants to live…waddi mushkil nal ghereya hai barristaar saaboo oh dubai langh janni hai…gareen carad tu oh di jeabaan wich rehnda ay….ghardi ghari wikhan di ay…

  13. human01 on February 7th, 2009 @ 10:30 am

No disrespect to anyone specially my panjabi fellows, but did any one remember the incident which caused quite a scene when in a famous show of its time "Nilam Ghar", a brother answered the question, which animal specie is found in every part of the world? Yes you guessed it right "PANJABI". Apart from the joke, this is quite true, you will find Panjabi’s (both from India & Pakistan) any where & every where you go (not that any thing wrong with it, instead it shows their ultimate adaptability characteristics). Here in Dallas they have an association called Panjabi Association of North Texas, and believe me or not, they have scores of Panjabi members from India & Pakistan. Their brotherhood is quite remarkable. They always talk about “DARTI PANJAB DEE” in their radio programs and functions. Now Wasiq said it right, due to their natural preference of living in country side they don’t like to live in big cities like Karachi, so they can’t call it home and so can’t be loyal to Karachi but still due to another natural characteristic they have (of being parasite & opportunist, sorry for being so rude, but it is true!) they will stay there & suck what ever they can (till the last bit of benefit) from here and eventually will go back to their homes.

  14. barrister on February 7th, 2009 @ 2:22 pm

I do not if more Punjabis live in NYC or Virginia; … WHAT I REALLY KNOW IS THAT ONE PLACE THEY (PUNJABIS) REALLY HATE TO LIVE “ APNA PUNJAB”……………

Human Bhai, Ah, Dallas – you remind me Al-Markaz in Dallas – great Nihari and Biryani! LOL….and Ofcourse, Valid Points about their attributes – they also have a “herd like behavior”…It’s funny to see back in Virginia (my favorite place in US after good old Dallas and Chicago “the Jinnah-Gandhi Street” is awesome) that Mohajir families have boycotted them for good – I also remember one of the TV Host funded by Nawaz Sharif till 2003-2004 called Nawaz Sharif , Prime Minister in exile ….

you can take a Pain’doo out of Punjab ; but you can not take Punjab out of a Pain’doo

My family has a rule especially back in US, UK and in Pakistan NOT TO MARRY OUR DAUGHTERS WITH PUNJABIS lot of Urdu Speaking families have the same rule …..because we know their “khaslat” ….

In a recent article by a Pain’doo / Dagaaa (Punjabi) Brigadier he wrote that

Biharis became stateless in 1971 and these Mohajirs will be Stateless in 2010 (that what he meant) ….

Back in UK, Punjabis and their cousins Kashmiris (although Kashmiris too hate them) are an embarrassment to the nation … lowest literacy rates, no education and highest crime rates …..

  15. barrister on February 7th, 2009 @ 2:26 pm

it is very disappointing to see such a large number of ignorant comments.
most of people commenting here are not actually living in Karachi they are either from USA or UK and despite living in a such a diverse environment they failed to learn that you cannot not generalized people by making assumption based on stereo types every individual is different. i have also spent 25 years of my life in that city and have so many Punjabi friends who were born in Karachi and they love Karachi as much as i do, and as far as Sindhis are concerned its actually their city they have every right to be here, and by the way i consider my self as a Urdu speaking Sindhi not a MOHAJIR because i never migrated i was born in that city.We all need to accept the fact that karachites are just karachites
irrespective of where they came from we all love our city and we should tolerate and accept each others existence

Thats what i am asking you, which world you actually live in?

5% is w.r.t my definition of literacy. If yours is what gov claims KHI is i think all literate. One should be able to write a normal APPLICATION and thats my minimum level of literacy. Since i believe if you cant make a proper request, no use of all that school etc.

I am by the way talking about "taleem yaafta" you seem to be talking about "degree yaafta".

As for your literate massi etc. congrats, but if i ask you a personal question how much you pay as their salary?

Barrister bro again on that ethnic bandwagon. My sympathies with you bro, its not your fault. Your ethnic-hate level is way beyond control. After so much hate with the PUNJABi establishment you sat in their lap for 5 years (and still continuing so) hahahahah……. what you call this? 2 faces? Your style of politics?

Chaudry Iftikhar is supported by Punjabis Only; The Islamization of Pakistan is supported by Punjabis and Pashtuns only..

Live and let live is a simple rule in pluralist world. When ethnic start claiming superiority on the base of majority (Islamic republic , what bullshit !!) then we get into where we are. And as someone said above. All urdu speaking bros who born here are no more Mohajir they are Sindhis. Mohajir cause is already dead well in 88. Now is just the POWER game. Did anyone see today’s Meray Mutabiq? See how SM ripped apart the MQM fellow who had absolutely no answer to the question asked. Dr SM himself is part of global agenda and puppet of invisible forces, he was the one who gave the message to BB on 18 oct on her way back to karachi that there will be an attack on her and MQM would be responsible, in reply BB told him that she knows about the Attack but MQM wouldn’t be responsible. The person who send this message using SM was non other then Hameed Gul one of the suspect identified as the potential killer of BB by BB herself in a letter with a list of 3 people.

SM is himslef on payroll of different agencies he left ARY to GEO then left for PTV and now on GEO again, The person he was referring to a dictator is his friend who he used to invites even on his birthdays,

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjXdYY0t2VQ&feature=channel_page

MQM is quite different from other political parties you like or not as in Mush era and in present era they are working to built karachi and they always try to get as much as they can for the city in diff gov and when the whole punjab supports army in the form of PML Q or PML N why MQM need to go ahead and take a tougher position ?if BB and Nawaz can sign an agreement and form gov why not MQM PPP and ANP ?

This is politics my friend and the way MQM doing Politics, it is something great as there is Peace in Karachi, MQM building Karachi their home turf and preparing themselves for much bigger tasks so be happy after watching shows of SM a sold out journalist who have a beard in his stomach.

If Navaz Sharif or anyone sets up dry ports in Sialkot or Gujranvala, that is quite alright. Vakeel! Chutt bhee toomhari aur putt bhee
    toumhari?

Actually, if other areas make progress, that will reduce the pressure on Karachi. We don’t want jahil people of Panjab or Sarhad coming to Karachi anyway. Lets make sure that only their highly educated people come to Karachi and set up businesses, and the juhaalaa in our Karachi move to Panjab and sarhad.

That is why i also believe all labor intensive industries should be shifted from Karachi to Panjab. We don’t want slums in Karachi. Let Lahore be slumified. Lets keep Karachi clean and modern, and make sure that high tech companies from Lahore and Islamabad move to Karachi.

That zaleel Navaz Sharif is actually Kashmiri. Saalay kaa buss chalay tou pooraa Karachi jalaa day. I prefer the other harami, Zardari, over Navaz. Kam az Kam, zardari Karachi kaa baiRah garq nahi’n karay gaa.

Khaled bhai aap ki bari mehrbani ki aap ne wo info di jo sab ko pehle se hee pata hai. But i knew you guys would be doing this. You dont reply to what is asked. You just start attacking the person personally, in this case SM. And by the way changing channels is his right like professionals changing jobs, whats the point in it? As for he telling BB about her being killed, again whats the point in it. And no he never said anything like MQM will kill BB. Its better to answer what is asked then to deviate the point, like all MQM fans do. When SM asked about current judiciary, he didnt had the moral courage to say YES current is also dishonest like all previous ones (kiunki apni files bhi toh phasi hui hain na …..kia jia jaai…..)

As for your logic ki why not MQM join hands with PPP ANP etc. when abcdxyz so where does that leaves the POLITICs of PRICIPLEs and COMMITMENTS?

So basically when we argue that politicians dont fulfill their words when they win elections we should not complain as wadey ya commitment koi QURAN ya HADITH toh hota nahi na ??

And that’s the different between the WEST and us. And thats why i say this current political lot is a pack of lairs and jokers who joke on stage to keep us busy. Who keep on changing their GODs in the name of (your’s and PPPs fav. ) RECONCILIATION.

Reconciliation is done to move forward buddy, not to more backward. If two people can reconcile to achieve national interest, it makes sense but if that is to distribute ministries and NROs , that’s bullshit.

It’s sad what happened to the Polish Engineer. I have couple of Polish friends whom I emailed today for my condolences. As I have mentioned before that the whole Polish Mission in Pakistan is in jeopardy and we are talking about EU(s) largest country and if I am not wrong the Polish helped with planes and spare parts during 1947 for our PAF (during those days Royal Pakistani Air Force).

These Karjee Taliban(s) are the biggest threat to this nation and should be killed ; if Pak Army can do the job Subhan’Allah and they can’t I won’t mind Americans and British cleaning our dirt (the Talibans)…

Does Imran Khan still believe that we are killing our people in FATA and SWAT or are we fighting foriegn militants with local criminal gangs funded and provoked by our neighbours??? They want us to follow the Islam where Women are not allowed education and a free life?

@MB’s frustration is understandable. Being a PTI’ian he supported the suo motto destabilization of the country along with the lawyer mayhem, plus he is a Talibaan sympathiser. And look where the country is today. The return of the thiefs and the down ward spiral is the direct consequence of the factors mentioned above. And he still tries to go after Mush, the one man despite being a Millitary ruler gave all these civil liberties and promoted institutional building and never shied away from holding elections. But the ungrateful souls will not settle for less than an angels, when in Pakistan there are none. The fools ignore the fact that the persons that have the guts to effect change are often controversial but they get things done. Not like the lot that we have brought back in the name of change, corroupt or not they dont have the competance to deliver in a century. So Pakistan ka Allah hi Hafiz hae.

As for Jamaat not for sale, well my friend its the greatest beneficiary of foreign funds both from Saudia and US since time immemorial. No other party comes even close with billions channeled through its coffers. As for Shahid Masood the conspiracy theorist, who considers Mullah Umar as Amer-ul-Momineen and believes that Imam Mehdi has arrived, the less said the better.

The MQM guys need not be apologetic, they have full mandate to make alliances with any one to maintain the peace in the city / province and keep suicidal maniacs out. They need not give any explanations to crack pots like SM, because the lot that apposed Mush is not even his paer ki jooti.

did anyone tried to check the background of the minister who crossed the limits of exposing human rights violation in Karachi i wonder if he is was not "HIGH" when declaring it.

To begin with am sure the minister has no idea what is true defination of HUMAN RIGHTS and what is the "lowest most" degree of human right which even exist in Radical cultures of Middle East, Israel & Somalis.

clean drinking water, – availability of drinking water to a human is basic human right., Now does any of us know if the minister really know how many in his constituency have access to clean drinking water….. ! let alone he talk about human right violation in Karachi – my FOOT!

BB Tazeen, am sure you are 1st in violating human right… Some convent gradute is your masi, am sure you are not adhereing to rule of employment , as per Govt of Pakistan labour law, a high school (class x in PK) gradute who can read write official language i.e urdu and recognise the english alphabets and digits shall have a bear minimum salary of Rs. 8000.00 for 5 working days 8 hours a day with 45 minute break everyday at duty for Afternoon prayers & lunch. Plus the employer is RESPONSIBLE for his safety & security during the duty hours.

Now tell me ….. how many of us really "ABIDE" the basic Human rights for people around us let alone people who we hire to work.

Take a break, don’t get paranoid by the sentilating political rubbish from some BA (in islamic studies from Christian Orthodox university in Spain) fail minister,

    – finally you did managed to gather too much rant on your topic :) Congrats… –

Actually they have one answer for all their problems, punjabi.
So i guess PUNJAB rules. These guys are low lives who don’t deserve to be part of a decent conversation.

Anyone who dosn’t support the bhatta khores is either a Jamati, Punjabi. PTI worker, Jeay Sindh or Taliban.

@Rockfella25 right on dude! The groups that you have mentioned namely Jamati,PTI worker, Jeay Sindh or Taliban are the ones with no positive contribution towards development and well being of this country except for creating fitna, fasaad, chaos and ideological nonsense.

You nailed it in a sentence!

    @ Rockfilla

So i guess PUNJAB rules. These guys are low lives who don’t deserve to be part of a decent conversation.

    LOL

Punjab rules because of Quota system they are getting jobs not on their qualification and merit, they are depriving people specially from karachi the most educated people from higher gov jobs so by capturing higher posts in bureaucracy they are ruling this country.

Everyone in Pakistan hates punjab so until how long you would rule this country ??

Time for you punjabies to think .

    @ tazeen
though you have posted a news item from a newspaper, i doubt about the statement of Minister for HR, as there is no Gang Rapes in Karachi on order of Panchayat, No Wani, No Karo Kari, no Naked parade of Women, No Marriage with Quran and etc.

If such cases might reports in karachi all are because of the people coming to karachi from their respected Pinds to pollute this great city and giving bad name to Karachi, so the people like these should be kicked out from Our city to save its name and culture.
