Grand opening of Metro Cash & Carry Karachi

Metro Cash & Carry, the international leader in self-service wholesale, opens its outlet for general public today. After the successful opening of its four wholesale centers, two in Lahore, one in Islamabad and one in Faisalabad. The response and crowed was so tremendous that metro staff closed all gates for public who were waiting outside. Metro only allow people who have metro cards. I reached there around 8:30PM and I got two metro cards but all gates were closed. I think the rush was due to rumor that metro is offering 60% discount.
Minimum shopping limit for Metro is 2,000 Rs

@Metro….i don’t understand the logic…why should a wholesale customer come to the push cart….you mean to say that the owner of avari towers should come to buy fish and broccoli and stand in line…while the memon bachchi next door should go to the mandi or fish market to buy half a kg..
Impressive marketing strategy….who is the your invester Mumbai’s underworld…?

  6. fasee on March 27th, 2009 @ 12:31 pm

    @ wasiq.

today will try again to buy half KG basin…as aaj pakoray khanay ko dil ker raha hai.

as for the strategy…well i guess is fine….they cater to scholl canteens, offcie canteens, khokhay wala and shopkeeprs who buy 10-12 pcs of bundles for there shops.

avari or big fish clients have vendor level contratcs with major vendors wth huge turnovers….even marko ro metor cater to them with on spot delivery and credit kinda stuff….

economics say….the more you are buyign the more leverage you have to twist arm bargaining or change mode ofdelivery.

hamray jaisay adha kilo aloo aur basin lay ker pakoray banay walon ko laat mar ker hi niklatay hain yaar.

ARY pe tu 3 dafa hu chuka…card acceptnai hota….sorry sir card not accepting…..pori trolley choor ker wapis a jata hoon…..nai bechtay na bechaoo…..meray #$#$@ pe

  8. بستنی (wasiq) on March 27th, 2009 @ 12:49 pm

If all the wholesale buyers are buying from here…than we should shut down the mandi….than whats the purpose of a mandi and a fish market in this economy…our neighborhood veggie seller can buy it from them and bring it to our door….

Metro ki sabri ley lo…dabba pack temater ley lo…

    @ wasiq.

sir yehi ti science hai…..the concept WALMART introduced…was bulk buying……why buy daily or weekly… for 1-2 months in one go….woh bhisara ka sara inhi say …pori market say nahee….onewindow operation……they get cash…you get discounts…..economy gets a consumer friendly society……you spend that discount to buy more stuff form same spot…even more than what u really required… developes overspednign habbits in consuemr aswell………so its a win win situation bro……

as for sabzi wala…nope….u cant get more freser sabzithen them…..they cater to those who buy form gali muhala shops…..

since launch of makro, they have eaten up a HUGE chunk of the consuemers who now shop from makro only…( including me, who gets 30-40 % form there)……one beenfit was that gali muhalah has reduced the rates to comepte with makro.

and now METRO has came in with a BNAG….so i expect another round of price cutts everywhere

  10. destiny on March 27th, 2009 @ 2:46 pm

Well there is a huge difference if counted what these grand stores and galli muhala shops are playing many think its the best way to shop all stuff under one roof and it may be time saving also
Shopping for many people is like a pleasure and for many its just like having headache

The community and social role played by these shops in certain locations is emphasized, while in others a breakdown of trust between retailers and consumers is identified. Policy making about independent retailing needs to understand more closely these differences by locational type I can,t understand till now why people make differnces by cast and how financialy they r build as one can go to buy half kg potataoes for pakoras to such a big place why can,t a memon girl go I guess u r keeping a good eye on your neighbours

    kidding sir relax

  11. fasee on March 27th, 2009 @ 3:29 pm

    @ destiny.

sir / madam…jokes apart, i have seen people buy potatos and onions for 5 ruppees….i may have a acid laced tounge but have a gold plated heart, with a heart beat…

what makes me depress is…that when we who can buy by the dozens are offered discounts, when we can easily afford not to have it…..but for thsoe it really matters the whole world…are charged much higer rate.

why…bcoz they are a captured marekt…they have less price influencing power…and less mobility ot go somewhere else…..

  12. بستنی (wasiq) on March 28th, 2009 @ 1:36 am

there is one very important thing that you have ignored completely….yes i do keep a very good eye…on the neighbors…i have revolutionized the stalking in pakistan…..
Fortunately I don’t live near the metro’s or the mackro’s…but i have seem the concrete jungle around safari park stretched over miles and miles…there are 2,3 room apartments mostly over crowded….with no storage facility at all. some of these girls cannot keep extra half Kg of massur ki dal in these apartments….buying in bulk…you are kidding!

please if you don’t believe*cashtomer is the King* I don’t blame you…but please don’t advertise if you only want to humiliate the visitors…
aap ko agar amma ney bachpan main toffee nahein dilai toh iss kay yeah matlab toh nahein kay aap kay store pey banda Rs3/- wali cadbury choki kay teen jar Rs 300/- each with Rs 5/- discount….I can’t go on…lol

  13. firstofficer on March 28th, 2009 @ 6:17 am

I saw metro store just didnt had chance to go inside. today it was full the car parking plot was full and even the lanes were full … Do all of those people where registered wholesale customers or mobile vegetable sellers

  14. fasee on March 28th, 2009 @ 9:34 am

    @ firstofficer.

i tried to go inside early in morning at 8:05 to be precise….there were around 15-20 people in queue to make metro cards….without shade right under the sun… qoum ko koi self respect tu hai hi nahee…10 rupay ke liye zaleel hu jatay hain….%$%$#

    @ wasiq

i saw visually what you told yesterday…saw how much humilating it was…abay 20 rupay bahcay ke liye itni zilat….i juts wanted to buy some milk and diapers….i will buy them form nukar ki dukan, will cost me a bit higher…but hell……..its all due to hype…makro was the same…it stabilised after a year or so…now no more cards and open to everyone….auqaat pe a jatay hain….

in the end its our jahil qoum that run in there direction and make them think they can humilate us rob us and kick us out at there discretion….we are more to blame for there preception

  15. بستنی (wasiq) on March 28th, 2009 @ 10:09 am

i talked to a kid who was very sorry to have not been able to go..his whole family was there in queue…he told me that the rumor was that they were giving away free mobiles to first buyers….or something like that…

there is one veggie seller who comes regularly to wake up….has an amazingly harsh voice and only says…(poetic justice)

  16. balma on March 28th, 2009 @ 11:10 am

    Competition is good.

Few years ago, Balma orangi say vaapis aa rahay thae…..well, actually I was with a friend and we decided to check out Orangi never being there….haalankeh gutter baaghichay kay keeRay reh chukay hai’n, and the driver said, vaa’k’ai saheb, and I said…haa’n let’s go….I was so humbled by Orangi, so confused, so depressed, so speechless….I just couldn’t believe it…on the way back… Went to makro, it had just opened few days ago…A guard came and said that ‘aap kay paas membership card hae?’, and I said no, but choRRoo-pun kaa muzaahira kartay huaa kahaa keh, nahi’n, laikin toomharay maalik kaa dost hoo’n…..believe it or not, and this is why I don’t trust Pakistani security….he let me go in with out a membership card!

When I am in mood, I will tell you why I don’t trust Indian security either….totally relaxed airport security in India!

  17. firstofficer on March 29th, 2009 @ 7:00 am

  20. destiny on March 29th, 2009 @ 9:24 pm

Children under 10 not allowed ,people below 4ft height not allowed what the hell about these restrictions u necessarily need to show your visiting card or NTN card to get Customer card standing in cue for long hours wastage of time i guess and then if entered show your card do entry tehn u r checked by scan machine when in your own country u r so restricted what u can then positive attitude in abroad

If we go to huge malls in Dubai or any foriegn country u r not even asked to shaow your passport or visa but as many of u said we have lost selfrespect jab khud apni izzat nahi karengay to bhala aur kon karega
