National Bloggers Conference
Yesterday was a milestone achievement for the bloggers of Pakistan as the Information Technology Ministry, Government of Sindh organized the National Bloggers Conference 09. This is the first time in the history of our region that a government has not only recognized the importance of blogging but had also gone a step forward to appreciate and support the bloggers community without attaching any strings to undermine or restrict their right to the freedom of expression.
The conference held at a local hotel here in Karachi started off with great energy and enthusiasm, two of the front tables hosted a number of bloggers who meticulously covered the event live using a live blog applet, tweet feeds, and photo inputs trying not to miss out even the even the slightest bit of the details while battling a number of jittery but yet working wifi connections provided by the organizers.
The honorary guest, the IT minister Raza Haroon,started the event with a bit of a speech praising the role of bloggers and later presenting a DEL laptop to the youngest MCP, 11 year old and class 6 student at Mama Parsi school Umaima Adil.
Also present at the conference were Mr. Andersher Cowasjee and Dr Farooq Sattar. Amongst the key speakers were Jehan Ara, Dr. Awab, Mr Chawla, Urdu bloggerAmmar, Asghar, Raja Islam and Ramla Akhtar .
Although the conference adopted too formal a tone, it was overall not only a successful event but also a very positive and plausible effort to recognize, promote and support the blogger community by the government
The full proceedings of the events which is the replay of the live feed cane be read here and another follow-up post by Dr. Awab can be read here and yet another follow-up post here.

Too bad being not it town i missed the rare chance to witness "aik he saf may kharay ho gaiey mehmood-o-ayaz’ :P
It really surprised me that MQM of all political parties arranged such a landmark event. I am not sure how history will judge it. But I am sure bloggers of all shapes, sizes and belief systems are impressed. Good things must be commended. And I am happy that MQM did the arrangements.
But I am not happy that MQM’s leader had to quote, of all the intelligent men and women, Mr. Altaf Hussain Rickshawalla, citizen of London, countryman of UK. The quote was off course on Taliban. I don’t understand why such highly educated me like Dr. Farooq Sattar have to quote a bufoon like Altaf Bhai among such high class intellectuals? I cannot, for my life, understand the ‘cultness’ within MQM. Can they not stop praying to Altaf Bhai and do something better? I think MQM has a lot of potential and lot of good men. They can simply do away with the murderer of Karachi.
@ameer hamza

I am very glad that this event was organised by the IT department of sindh…which means that the government has put blogging under their umbrella and not under the information ministry or the interior ministry….I blame Pasha and the patrons for this great achievement….greatest.thanks.
did they announce the future plan…or calender..?

This is really good initiative by Sindh Government and I think they should have promoted this event, there are 1000’s of individuals who could have been benefited with this event.
I’m sure next time there will be pre-promotion of this event, best of luck.
