The Jinnah Anthology Launched
The Oxford University Press, at a local hotel here in Karachi, on 20th of April, 2009, launched the second edition “The Jinnah Anthology”, Compiled and edited by Liaquat Merchant and professor Sharif al Mujahid, The new edition is a hard back voluminous book which contains extensive material on the subject with a number newly written and old articles, excerpts, personal recollections, tributes by renowned authors and distinguished people from world over, photos of some rare documents, along with quotes, speeches, statements and memorable and rare photographs of Muhammad Ali jinnah.
The event started with a brief address by Ameena Saiyid and then Mr. Liaquat Merchant after a short speech and took us to a journey to introduced the book through a detailed power point presentation which showed sections of books and some important quotes, letters and writings included in the book.
The event doubled as a ceremony to present The Jinnah Awards by the Jinnah Society to two distinguished personalities in recognition of their outstanding services to Pakistan. Mr Ardeshir Cowasjee presented the awards on behalf of The Jinnah Society. The first Award was presented to Air marshal (Retd.) M. Asghar Khan and another one posthumous award to late Ahmed Ali Khan, the former editor and chief, Dawn. Which was received by his wife.
The event followed with a keynote address by Najam Sethi, editor-in-chief, The Friday times, The daily times and daily Aajkal who said the book will prove to be an invaluable resource for academics, researchers, historians, and students. And is essential reading for those who seek to understand the visionary behind Pakistan’s creation. After which Professor Sharif al Mujahid concluded the event with a brief address.
The book is available on all OUP outlets, countrywide.
Stopped collecting and borrowing hard back voluminous books….is this available on CD or online….
I wonder if the book has a copy of the letter Jinnah sahib wrote to the first Indian ambassador to Karachi asking him to tell Nehru Sahib to take care of his house in Malabar Hills where he claimed he wanted to retire?

Sorry, there is only one type. The second type you mentioned also belives that what you sow is Allah ki marzi and what you reap is also Allah ki marzi. They are all smart guys. None belives in free will. They pass the buck to Allah and thats why the say lot of Bismillahs and Inshallahs etc.
Being a lawyer you will be much smarter than them. You may belong to either of these two categories ; free will or Allah ki marzi depending on the prevalent situation at the time :-)
Mahmudabad is not some real big state or anything like that. These guys were taluqadaars…..choTay moTay raja types.
He went to UK few years after coming to Pakistan. Many of his type had been mullahfied…another example is Bahadur Yar Jang (Karachi’s Bahadurabad is named after him)
Actually, Raja Mahmudabad’s son went back to India and lives in Mahmudabad and Lucknow.

Checked all the three referenced articles. Agree with your observation. I would call them closet Talibans. Of all the people some time a person like Imran Khan and even Dr A Q Khan also appears to be a closet Taliban to me. There are many such closet Talibans in the media and other walks of life particulary in the Army. In the army they were recruited during the time of Zia.
After having said that I would like to point out that there are certain aspects of American foreign policy in regard to the Muslim world vis-a–vis Israel which gives rise to such anti American feelings and thereby to Taliban like thinking among otherwise well educated and enlightened persons.
Right now it has become a very confused and complex situation to know who is who and who is right or who is wrong. The picture from outside may appear more clear but it is not so when you view it from inside.
Anyway mark my word. This war on terror can’t be won unless Pakistan fights it as its own war and doesn’t consider it to be an American war only.
Of course, you read Mamood siddiquee too! on the same page. He is also one of them.
Imran Khan and AQ are probably the types you mentioned who blame every thing on the US and India.

Got you. I was familier with this ayet. Tablleghi Jamat uses it as their kind of motto. During Taliban rule in Afghanistan the department of prevention of vice and promotion of virtue also operated in the light of this ayet. Reps of this department use to ensure that people during football matches did not shout and yell or even clap. To celebrate the scoring of a goal by their team they were only allowed to shout ‘Allah O Akbar’.

If the people of Pakistan feel that there should be a code of dress for females or men for that matter it will be acceptable to KD and should also be acceptable to Fasee and Balma. However, there should be a law about it duly passed in the normal manner in the Parliament. No body repeat no body or some group of people should be allowed to enforce the dress code which they feel desireable.
I think this should end your further discussion of this subject.
