By the time i had commented on other post related to this incident only 2 buses had been burnt. But now according to media almost 50 vehicles have been torched while arsonist have burnt to ashes almost 1000(thousand) shop in the largest wholesale market of Pakistan. Medicine market,plastic market and other wholesale market have been severely affected. I can easily imagine that billions of rupees worth of goods must have been burnt down.
Ashura procession is taken out each year from the same route and they peacefully disperse at the end. So it should be investigated who these friggin arsonists actually were.
CDGK does have video footages from its command and control cctv cameras installed all along the route but while watching ‘live with talat’ on ajj tv in which host Talat Hussain specifically asked Mustafa Kamal that if CDGK can release the footage of bomb blast then why not also release the footage of all those who are involved in arson and violence so that they could be identified(remember these are high resolution cctv cameras and 4 different video surveillance network are in different stages of completion all around the city). Nazim apparently seemed reluctant and didn’t responded convincingly.
Things are so bad at these wholesale markets that now they’re calling in fire tenders from Hyderabad. That area is really congested and hundreds of shops and sales outlets are situated next to each other and most buildings were constructed even before partition of Pakistan so all those buildings and structures must be dangerously fragile and weakened and might collapse after the fire. Earlier some times back there was a fire at Iqbal Market as well on same M A jinnah road in which hundreds of shops and millions of rupees worth of goods were gutted. But it seems lessons were not learnt.
Many of the these buildings in old wholesale market area have shops at ground level while residential units at upper level. So many homes might be affected too.

Although there is no doubt that later arson attacks were pre-planned, however, the response of our public and civil defense forces to such a heinous incident is really saddening. While witnesses complain, rangers saw people setting fire to shops and kept standing there, just imagine if gunshots from the law enforcement agencies would have killed someone. No one would have ever known that the person killed was a perpetrator of violence rather an innocent victim, thus causing further outrage and anarchy.
We should question ourselves as to why we practically and psychologically react to a tragedy like this?
