Feeding 50,000 people daily

The photograph may look funny but for countless men and women it is a sign of relief and of some really good food, day and night. Saylani Welfare International, based in Karachi with their headquarters at Bahadurabad, is probably the largest NGO in the world in terms of the number of people it feeds daily: 50,000 with no full stop any day of any year. And this number continues to rise as people like you and me become aware of its workings.

Saylani’s un-written but much understood reason for being established was that they wanted ‘to feed all Muslims of the World’. But they have grown their charter and now wishes that no one, not only Muslims, go hungry any day, any night. This is a big ask but could have imagined them feeding 50,000 people daily. And meat everyday, despite it being a very expensive commodity. And no religion comes into play at their workings. Anyone can go and eat without the necessity of mentioning his / her religion. Nor it is asked.

But Saylani also does other things. They gift jahez (dowry) to poor women who cannot fund their daughters’ jazez; they help people with free medicines and doctors; they fund people with disabilities; they pay for the deserving patients in Karachi’s elitist hospitals; they help people set up their own push-carts free of cost; they manage monthly stipends for thousands of deserving, poverty-struck families; and they feed prisoners at City Courts. This surely is an organization worth helping.

    This is indeed great effort put up by these people and they must be supported

    Although I am not a supporter of their sect but still I support them

    And we should support every one who looks after deserving people’s needs

    @Billy

    Why did you have to mention that sect thing? Please don’t include the sectarian thingy while commending good work.

There other services include patient assistance which is also very admirable. Hats off to the people running this. I’ve beem giving my sadqah’s to these people for a while now as i really follow “seeing is believing”

    Sect has nothing to do with this….

    though Mr. Hamza, you should have mentioned the website of Selani Welfare International Trust….

    http://www.saylaniwelfare.com/

    They do many many things along with feeding about 50,000 people daily….

    They are also involved in a lot of shady things like charging people money to do istikhara for them and other types of bidats.

    Also it is incorrect to say they are largest NGO in the world. What NON-SENSE. Everything in Pakistan is either the biggest in the world or biggest in Asia. Where do you guys get this from?

    Mulla ji

    @ Mulla Big Brother

    I had done Istikhara myself they didn’t charge me anything. Tell the first hand experience. Go for the fact no NGO in at least South Asia is feeding such a large number of people daily, not even Edhi Foundation.

    Is Istikhara a bidat??? In Hadith we have been asked to Istikhara for everything we start. So, I think you are messed up everywhere, first get your facts right and then post dont waste everybody’s precious time for your unwanted propaganda.

    @Waqas

    Dear brother, istikhara is established by hadith and is a confirmed sunnat. No doubt but where in the hadith does it mention that someone else can do istikhara for you and give you the results? This is against the spirit of istikhara and a total deviation of the whole idea behind doing it, i.e., simply asking Allah to guide you towards what is best for you.

    Anyway – another major problem with what Saylani Welfare is doing is that by giving so many people FREE FOOD they are basically allowing lazy bums to say out of work and not contribute to society by feeding them day and night. If these guys didn’t get free food, maybe they’d learn a trade, get a job or start a business and in turn benefit the economy but nooooo the saylani people have to give them free food for life!

    Saylani center does not charge a penny for doing istikhara. Yes, the feed lots of people. But that is because if say, someone is earning Rs.10,000 per month and has to feed 5 mouths he can feed on Saylani’s food for free and therefore, save money for some education or other necessity. That’s the concept.

    no doubt their concept is nice, but ppl here dont take time to go in wrong direction….and yes…istikhara should be done by yourself….not by proxy….not a fatwa…at least tht is wht in my knowledge…peace!

    Saylani welfare are doing a great job. I, myself seen saylani welfare feeding the needy ppl at S.I.U.T. or Civil Hospital who are settled in foothpaths b/c their loved ones are admitted in hospitals, and as it is very much difficult for these poor ppl to earn and feed themselves, Saylani welfare is a mercy of Allah for them. We should really appreciate their efforts. Istikhara is permissible in Islam, infact it is preferable. Pls avoid the discussions of sects n ‘jaali molvis’, it ruins the overall peace n harmony. Let these discussions be prevailed at upper levels. We shouldn’t comment with our limited knowledge. And lastly, everyday we have different ceremonies in our city, if we start donating the remaining food of these ceremonies to welfare organizations that will cause us to be a part of this holy work (only a suggestion).

    @Syed Adeel Ali Bukhari – you said “Istikhara is permissible in Islam, infact it is preferable.” … but that doesn’t answer my question. I agree, Istikhara is not only permissible but preferable. No doubt. Perhaps you have problems in understanding what I wrote above? Let me repeat.

    I said: Dear brother, istikhara is established by hadith and is a confirmed sunnat. No doubt but where in the hadith does it mention that someone else can do istikhara for you and give you the results? This is against the spirit of istikhara and a total deviation of the whole idea behind doing it, i.e., simply asking Allah to guide you towards what is best for you.

    Do you or Saylani Welfare mullahs have the answer for this?

    Let’s not dodge these things by labeling the questioner as a “jaali mullah” because the real jaali mullah are those who dodge questions and innovate in the religion (biddat).

  14. Syed Adeel Ali Bukhari (unregistered) on June 4th, 2010 @ 9:36 pm

    @ Mullah Big Brother:- Dear dont take it personal.. I was making comments and not giving answers to your questions.. I have nothing to do with these sort of questions. Have a look at other’s comments too… Am requesting to avoid jaali molvis coz they are dangerous enough to create hatred among members of society. You have been misguided about Saylani welfare.. and lemme be clear that your comments were completely resembling what I said above.

    Masha Allah Saylani welfare is doing a great job. May Allah bless us to be a part of this movement and serve needy people.

    Regards,

    Syed Adeel Ali Bukhari

    @Syed Adeel Ali Bukhari – I am still waiting for an answer to my question. As I said, those who dodge questions and don’t have answers from Qur’an, Hadith or the Fuqaha are the real jaali molvis.
