Launch of Meat One

Life of a blogger is strange indeed. I remember driving past Main Khayaban-e-Shamsheer (next to S.Abdullah) in April and wondering what Think Red, Think Health could mean. I got a lot of interesting responses too when I posted a photoblog of it, ranging from it being a red bull outlet, gym, BBQ place to an eatery. INOVATIVE MAD and Aslam Chughtaye though were right in guessing it to be a hygienic meat joint. Who would have thought that I would be dragged to its soft-launch by a friend to cover it. Of course, I told him I would only post about it if it’s good, though before even entering the outlet my curiosity was piqued.

Meat One opened its doors to public on Sunday, 18th July 2010, and it turns out that these guys specialize in selling export quality meat at very affordable rates. The soft launch kicked off with a press conference in which Meat One’s COO, Kazim Namazi, briefed the journalists about the company’s ambitious plans to open 20 more outlets in the city during the next one year. They slaughter their animals in their semi-automated slaughter house and then transport the carcasses in refrigerated vans to the Meat One shop, where it is further sliced and diced according to customer specifications.

The air conditioned shop looks state-of-the-art with a friendly staff. Personally I don’t visit meat shops in general so it was good experience of no flies and smell. The meat was neatly stacked and packed in chillers. For fresh cuts, trained butchers are available to fashion the meat in whatever sizes/cuts one wants.

The shop offers beef, veal, mutton, lamb, chicken and a wide variety of meat cuts from local favorites to the more exotic ones. I was feeling a bit rebellious so I opted for mutton chops and chicken steak. They also offer a variety of deli and marinated products. There is a 15% discount across the board on all meat products during this entire week along with a free espresso so if you want to try it out this week’s the ticket.

I hope they do have a full time VET on the payroll to check the health status of the animal before slaughter take place, – Starting with a bang and landing on nose is usual happening for much of the class in this businness.

In my youth days, Qasai-Kasai-Qasab are known & addressed as Qureshi Saheb for regard of respect. These guys choose NAMAZI, just like every onr who did the Farz HAJ is known as Haji :) – Gross

Great idea. We need nice and clean shops, not just for meat but for every thing else.
Shamsi Saheb, any idea why qasaai’s were not called Siddiqi’s or Ansari’s or chaudhri’s or bhuttaa’s, why quraishis?

Expresso at a meat shop? No thanks.

Anyway, this is great news. The experience of buying meat in Pakistan is a sickening and unhygienic experience. On top of that, they cheat you to death. So this is certainly welcome!

I hope they maintain their hygiene standards in the long run because recently we saw some outlets such as K&N and Milac (and other milk shops like Day Fresh) come in the market but their in-store hygiene is very bad. Some K&N stores don’t even have power generators, you can guess what happens when there are long power outages.

Also, what do you mean by semi-automatic slaughter house? Did they give more detail on that? Are the animals slaughtered by humans or machines?

balma what my poor knowledge is It need a “PAGE”, so I’d better not rant about it,

I visited the shop, after going through the glass freezers I can comfortably say ‘ by November 2010 the shop will be same as like any other outlet at Burns road, Nazimabad Gole market, Liqauatabad Super market in terms of cleanliness and attitude of salesman.

No one was available to tell me if the animals were tested for any diseases before slaughter and if there is any vet is part of their organization to which, quiet understandably they asked me to leave the phone number to get back.

The quality of Mutton & Beef is one step below the quality of Mutton available at Burns Road & Gole Market. Beef is best at Empress market & Liaquatabad. – where as price is premium which is not proportional to Quality at par.
